Have any of you people ever been in love? Or what you thought was love at that age? Do you remember how you felt the first time? Do you remember the first time you kissed that person and went home and couldn't stop smiling. Your face literally hurt because no matter how hard you tried you could NOT stop smiling? Do I think her smiling is fake and for the sake of the performance? Hell yes. But it doesn't look out of place. That giddy ridiculous smile is perfect for a piece about young love.
Does she go to the same studio as Alexis McClure? Because they have nearly the same costume and hair style at this competition. Also she is an amazing dancer! Wow!!!

@Skuhlie I totally agree that a lot of these competition dancers seem to lack great performance technique. The dance is often beautiful but absolutely 2D. I saw a comment on another video that said the song would have been a great place to show off the dancers technique and should have contained MORE pirouhettes etc.! Too often these girls seem to be given routines that are not about the song, just rushing to hit one trick after another. Dance and music should enhance one another!
@ppgzblossomfan With this girl, she is most likely going to a really nice performing arts school or a dance company. These competitions you have to register through your studio/dance school, then some competitions go by how long you have been competing or how many hours you dance, if not both.. which puts you into a division (1, 2 or 3). But every competition is different. It's a bit complicated, spoken by a dance teacher who helps her boss/studio owner a lot.
@toffeandcarmel These girls probably go to their dance studios at least three times a week. All they do is train. There's this dance school in California called Dance Precisions that trains girls for competitions like these. My question is: what happens to these girls after they graduate? Do they become professional dancers or what? With all their training do they have time for school as well? But I know I want to be like them. I've been dancing for three years and can't do most of that stuff!

ballet movement sweet heart.. i am a dance teacher. i have been teaching for 5 years at one of the top 25 studios in the united states. i dont need to learn anything.
chikitik--err whatever, yeah that is ballet, or at least it has a lot of ballet technique.. it does have a contempo touch to it..but she's right for the most part it pretty much looks like ballet to me as well.
gorgeous technique. i would have liked to see more jumping but as it was it was beautiful. in terms of the smiling, she absolutely should be smiling, but she shouldn't be "cute" smiling if you know what I mean. her smile was too "i am performing and i want to impress you" rather than "i am beautiful and i am in love." otherwise, great job!

Everything is connected, the dance flows with the music. Personally, I never really enjoy Erika Leedy's choreagraphy, but this dance is wonderful. I think its the dancer. Not the choreagrapher.
whoever is saying shes fat is crazy! she is in amazing shape. Great dancing, the only thing i didn't like was the cheesy smile throughout the whole thing. Some dancers have that cheesy smile forced onto them, but there are other facial expressions to put you in sync with the music.
well--clearly she has a great facility, with strong technique and performance quality..but the choreo does lack some luster; 25 stunts and multiple pirouette sequences in a 2.5 minute dance isn't so much impressive, as it is redundant :-/
this girl is a fabulous dancer. there is just so much originality lacking. clearly she can do all of these tricks. and the choreographer knows this. so he or she made this girl do them all in a row...without any creative choreography in between. im just sick of seeing girls do 17 piourettes into an illusion. show some creativity and orginality for once

i have been going through these videos and noticed there all Choreographed by Erika Leedy. I've also noticed they are all wearing the same costumes. All you are going to reply saying that the costume doesnt matter. YES it does. Reply if u want me to tell you how it does bc if u do u know NOTHING about dance.
I just think she needs to feel the dance more. She's too presentational, the song says soo much more than a cheesy performance smile. Studios these days need to focus more on expression than number of tricks they can get their students to do. Because let's face it, most kids these days aren't getting the technique they need, its very monkey see monkey do. I wish I had been taught technique a lot sooner, I'd be a whole lot better now than I am. But she has a lot of potential.
@Skuhlie I completly agree with you about the expression part. I teach lyrical at my old gymnastics club for gala's and all, and on the very first lesson I told the kids that if they can't express themselves because they are too shy they might aswell just leave this class. We spent about 2 months to learn how to express the music with your face and body, that's why it's called "Lyrical" Lyrics" you're dancing to the words, and expressing them through dance. The technuque comes after the emotions
it is obvious that your technique is spectacular especially your turning which is INSANE but i feel that the emotion was a little peppy for the my taste and definitely should have been slinkier for the song, but i envy your turning abilities
Ok well.......she's amazing at dancing! But ive noticed in all her dances, she is a very talented dancer, but the chiography....just doesn't go with the music....at all! So if u could work on something, i would say get faster music, cause thats the type of music that u would be best at!! Good luck!!
This coreography and style was in right category and well executed. BUT, I ended up here through "When You Got It, Flaunt It -number" and even though it was technically good, it had nothing to do with musical theatre (except for the music). That was coreographers fault, because Ms.Stover danced that crappy non-musical coreography well!
Really, though, art/sport arguments aside, I don't understand why she got first place. She's a good dancer, granted. I just don't see her EXPLODING with energy, as I would expect from a first-place winner. The choreography wasn't really anything special, and it didn't seem to always fit the music. The dancer wasn't turned out in her bottom foot in the last arabesque, and I really didn't see anything spectacular. It was a very good piece; just not first-place, or so is my opinion.

it's personally not my favorite style of lyrical.. a little emotionless but you can see she has good technique and the potential to be great with the right choreography and if she surrenders herself to the dance a little more and feels the music.
OK great, loved it but u can see which is her strongest left and which she uses more for leg lifts (left), she just has to be careful cause it get noticable after a while even if the other leg is not as flexible just throw in a kick with the "bad leg"
she's so good. her facial expressions are perfect for this. why shouldn't she be smiling? the song is all about finally finding her love.. she doesn't look fake or showy..she looks like she's happy to be in love, like the song is saying.. why do people feel the need to just knock other people down all the time..she's got talent . give her some credit.
the song was kind of a poor choice. great choreography and body movement just the song didn't feel right.

this girl is a fabulous dancer. there is just so much originality lacking. clearly she can do all of these tricks. and the choreographer knows this. so he or she made this girl do them all in a row...without any creative choreography in between. im just sick of seeing girls do 17 piourettes into an illusion. show some creativity and orginality for once

I just think she needs to feel the dance more. She's too presentational, the song says soo much more than a cheesy performance smile. Studios these days need to focus more on expression than number of tricks they can get their students to do. Because let's face it, most kids these days aren't getting the technique they need, its very monkey see monkey do. I wish I had been taught technique a lot sooner, I'd be a whole lot better now than I am. But she has a lot of potential.

@Skuhlie I completly agree with you about the expression part. I teach lyrical at my old gymnastics club for gala's and all, and on the very first lesson I told the kids that if they can't express themselves because they are too shy they might aswell just leave this class. We spent about 2 months to learn how to express the music with your face and body, that's why it's called "Lyrical" Lyrics" you're dancing to the words, and expressing them through dance. The technuque comes after the emotions

Ok well.......she's amazing at dancing! But ive noticed in all her dances, she is a very talented dancer, but the chiography....just doesn't go with the music....at all! So if u could work on something, i would say get faster music, cause thats the type of music that u would be best at!! Good luck!!

This coreography and style was in right category and well executed. BUT, I ended up here through "When You Got It, Flaunt It -number" and even though it was technically good, it had nothing to do with musical theatre (except for the music). That was coreographers fault, because Ms.Stover danced that crappy non-musical coreography well!

Really, though, art/sport arguments aside, I don't understand why she got first place. She's a good dancer, granted. I just don't see her EXPLODING with energy, as I would expect from a first-place winner. The choreography wasn't really anything special, and it didn't seem to always fit the music. The dancer wasn't turned out in her bottom foot in the last arabesque, and I really didn't see anything spectacular. It was a very good piece; just not first-place, or so is my opinion.

it's personally not my favorite style of lyrical.. a little emotionless but you can see she has good technique and the potential to be great with the right choreography and if she surrenders herself to the dance a little more and feels the music.

OK great, loved it but u can see which is her strongest left and which she uses more for leg lifts (left), she just has to be careful cause it get noticable after a while even if the other leg is not as flexible just throw in a kick with the "bad leg"

she's so good. her facial expressions are perfect for this. why shouldn't she be smiling? the song is all about finally finding her love.. she doesn't look fake or showy..she looks like she's happy to be in love, like the song is saying.. why do people feel the need to just knock other people down all the time..she's got talent . give her some credit.
