Was reading in my Car & Driver Jan. '09 issue today and they mention that the next RL will FINALLY be a much longed for V8. I'm thinking too that Acura is also going to finally make the car roomy enough to compete with what it's being compared to. I love Acura and I truly hope they get the next RL right. This one is a step in the right direction but bring on the V8, rwd, and more room and people will buy them.

Honda originally had plans for the 2010 RL to feature a V8 but then very shortly after that stated they were cutting that plan and pushing it over to 2015.

Seriously, they should put a V8 and a rear wheel drive as a option. But Honda is well known for their lightweight cars and handling ability. Font wheel drive supposedly will give you more handling.And having a V6 instead of a V8 would be more light weight.The Mustang has a V8 300 hp correct? And so the Acura RL has a V6 with also a 300hp engine.Acura has took the advantage of adding more mechanics to increase its hp while still maintaining its lightweight ability.And with the SH-AWD is superior.

Acura needs to get it together. Make the car more roomy. A rear wheel V8 perhaps? And bring back the Legend nameplate. I bet people would run back to the showrooms. There are too many other cars out there that are more appealing for 50+thousand dollars.

I agree it's a $54,000 car that looks like a $22,000 car and it always has been. I think acura made the wrong move in redesigning it as well. The model before it looked much better. Oh well though, that just means the older model will be cheaper now and i'll buy that one.

Ok, lets not act like 10hp will make a difference in a car that is not made to be fast. I smoked several RLs and 10hp wouldnt have helped. And my BMW has never let me down reliability wise. I get a full maintenance plan with it that covers every single part, including brakes!!! The RL is not really designed to compete with BMW or Mercedes. It is a 50k Accord, but thats cool if thats what you are looking for.

Acura has step its game up a whole lot with there new line up of cars..I kno when I test drove the tsx that beat the bmw 3 series and alot of other good name cars..just give acura a few more years and they will be up there with mercedes...and to me a bmw is a knock off mercedes anyway

I think it looks great! The new design gives it a classy look that stands out, and i think the new front grill is sharp. Its designed for people who want class & have total luxury. Specially when practically living in the car going to and from work. The new technology is great & I cant wait to check it out!

Acura's designs are HOT. Acura is thinking outside the box, which is good. They are more on the avant-garde side than classy, which is good because it looks modern. It might not appeal to everyone now because it is so avant-garde, which is how avant-garde things are, they take time to acclimate. The power plenum grille is breathtaking. Is it a bit overly designed? Perhaps, but it is much better than the blob that preceded it.

the front grille look of the new 2009 acura rl is a total turn off for me (just like the newly redesign 2007 mdx). what is acura thinking when they came out with the new redesign models of the rl and mdx? just like a couple of people below complain about the "firing the person who is in charge of the design"... i am totally with them on that. it's just too bad and sad that you'll lose out on customers who feel the same way as i do here.

the rl is a professional car (buis ext) it wasnt suspose to be a sharp family car to begin with. Its suspose to be "neat and clean cut regal" which it acompishes if you want more sporty go TL or tsx. The rl is a TOTALY diff market for all the ppl bitching about it not being better than tl or tsx

As a two time owner of acuras (TL-S, and now a TSX) I have to say that Acura is totally loosing me with its "styling." Whoever is in charge of "design" at Acura needs to get fired.

Acura has done two things wrong as of late: made their cars look too much like their less expensive twins, Honda, and the new grilles are so UGLY! We almost bought an MDX, but I was very offset with the grille so we got a GMC Acadia instead... you are losing customers because of the design of your cars Acura!!

i must say that i am extremely disappointed too.  the current rl and 2006 mdx prior are nice in my opinion, but the new one does not appeal (the grille has got to go and so does the designing team or person of the new 2009 rl and 2007 mdx). it's almost like they're trying too hard to be stand out or something of that nature.
