You know, YouTube, you still have no captcha alternative for the blind person who wants to post comments to videos. i do find that very disheartening; oh wait... Probably because i've been totally blind since birth... Hint: I go by BlindLibrary here, or on Twitter, i'm known as: BlindHedgehog.
I just hate that every other 3 comments I write on YouTube videos that I have to read a stupid captcha. Its retarded. It should have a one time register captcha for when your making your account and that's it. Not make you do a captcha every other comment you put on peoples videos, or responses.
I'm normally sighted and I can't read the captcha to get a gmail account, so I try the only alternative, the "accessible" audio link. No instructions on what I'm looking for from the audio. There's many voices, one is clearly reciting numbers interspersed with nonsense, but they whisper one number and I can't tell whether that number is part of a sequence or not. So I'm lost. What happens when you can't read the captcha and you can't hear the captcha? It's not fair.
Even the hearing accessibility feature of captchas unhearable, although I can see the captcha, I cannot understand what the captcha reader say. lol stupid captcha designers. I think the best captchas the ones that ask a question.
if you can't read a youtube or gmail captcha you have to print out the image, and rescan it using a scanner which converts the image to word documents
Because not everyone is 100% blind. Visual impairment can simply mean someone who can't see clearly or has trouble seeing visual features like patterns or colours. So most can still watch a video, or even videos that are specially made for people with a visual impairment.
whatever dude. on facebook you only need to enter it once, and on sites like youtube you dont need to enter it at all unless you want to add comments. and only ppl with accounts can add comments. and its pointless to have an account if you dont make videos, and how can someone who has impaired vision make a visually appealing video?
(im not just trying to rip on blind ppl, i think if u dont have vids u shudnt have an account)
Who says you have to see a video to enjoy it? Videos also have a sound component to them, and some videos are actually just songs with album art. So someone who is blind, or visually impaired doesn't really need to see the video to enjoy the content. There's more to the experiences we have than just 1 or 2 senses.
Screen Readers are an accessibility tool for computers that reads out the text on the screen. Its for people who have troubles seeing or reading screens. You can find a tool called Narrator under Start > Programs > Accessories > Accessibility which is a basic screen reader
Even if your not blind captch on youtube distortions to much the letters to be redeable you have to refresh it like 15 times before you can find one that looks easy and still you can fail because for example a C may get near and L and look like a D they need to leve more space and make it right for blind and other people.
Im black, and i dont know how to type that shit either. Maybe we should team up.. i'll be Mr T and you can be the smart one.. then we gonna crack dat youn tube ass.. mofoker
Great video. I'm making my first steps in web development and accessibility is something I want to pay special attention because everyone should be able to use the websites. Some web developers have no idea of web accessibility, and many others things it's too much of a hassle, but in my opinion it's not that hard, at least we can make the effort and code the websites as good as we can in order to achieve the best possible accessibility. Sorry for my English, I'm from Argentina.
yall should try being deaf-blind and want to use yahoo welcome to exclusion kids, have fun with there customer service they never call you back or help you.
I am blind and use youtube to watch stuff like this, go try to create a yahoo account without your eyes, go on let me know if you could do it? how does it feel to be excluded. dont cheat and look at the screen either. there ways to fix this but most web designers dont care.
yeah, they used to be super hard to read, but now they just make them so that they cant be scanned or read by computer. The old ones werent necessary.

why would someone who cant see their screen want to sing up for a VIDEO SITE?

People like to comment on other people's videos, subscribe, etc. and that is why they make accounts.

There aren't any work arounds. The purpose for them is so that robots can sign up for websites and use their accounts to post spam everywhere.

Blind people can hear and still want to listen to the music videos and any other sort of videos.
Blind people still own televisions and watch them.
Blind people still want to participate!
