I think it captures the relentless pull of the road...both the rolling rythmn but also the nervous feeling that you're on a journey that just can't stop. If you've travelled, you'll get it

Had Canned Heat not been so illfated, it would have been quite "right" for Melua to play this song with them. She is a gifted singer, and really adds something new and good to this song. Her band seems to be very talented too, but their contribution turns it into a cheesy farce - at times it sounds too "wacky happy" in lack of better words. The violin and backupsingers makes no sense to me. Melua hits a really good moodyness in her performance though.
I give her some credit for covering a great forgotten song, but I still feel she has turned this a bit cheezy and lost the true lonely feeling of this song

It's an excellent song for sure. The b&w Canned Heat is probably closer to the original, but I really love the way Katie does it. The drummer is really getting into it too.

This is a great song by Canned Heat but Katie's version is much better. I like to watch her sing it because she puts so much passion in it. Check her out singing "Blues In The Night" a classic by Cab Calloway from the 1940"s. What a talent. I just love this girl.

This song was made from various lines from delta blues singers of the twenties and thirties for eg Charley Pattion "Dirt Road Blues", Tommy Johnson "Canned Heat Blues" where sure enough the band got their name.
"Canned Heat" was the name of a drug-like jelly poor people consumed instead of alcohol during the prohibition era. Nowerdays it would be prohibited as "hard and addictible drug". Wilson once sad: "The boogie got me like that drug" I rather would say the name comes from there.
I'm a great fan of Canned Heat (especially when boogie-ing with John Lee Hooker) but I'm not so blinded by the Canned Heat original to be unable to enjoy this version too....As for 'Plat, sans émotion, sans voix...' below, Monsieur, I don't think so. This is a spirited enough performance for me ;-)
Had the chance to see her in concert twice so far. What an experience. She has a great voice and her presence on the stage is enormous. Looking forward to seeing her many more times.

There's something in her voice that I just don't like, but I can tolerate it better here. And the music's amazing! What a performance! What an atmosphere! :D

This song was made from various lines from delta blues singers of the twenties and thirties for eg Charley Pattion "Dirt Road Blues", Tommy Johnson "Canned Heat Blues" where sure enough the band got their name.

"Canned Heat" was the name of a drug-like jelly poor people consumed instead of alcohol during the prohibition era. Nowerdays it would be prohibited as "hard and addictible drug". Wilson once sad: "The boogie got me like that drug" I rather would say the name comes from there.

I'm a great fan of Canned Heat (especially when boogie-ing with John Lee Hooker) but I'm not so blinded by the Canned Heat original to be unable to enjoy this version too....As for 'Plat, sans émotion, sans voix...' below, Monsieur, I don't think so. This is a spirited enough performance for me ;-)

Had the chance to see her in concert twice so far. What an experience. She has a great voice and her presence on the stage is enormous. Looking forward to seeing her many more times.

weak voice? what are you comparing her rendition to? and why? the performance was just as exciting as any other.....how can you listen to her and say find fault with her voice??
