Lol, sound proofing is keeping sound from getting in or out. Sound absorption is reducing echo, room modes, and standing waves. Neither have anything to do with the other. These are absorper panels, there is no such thing as sound proofing panels. Sound proofing is done with the construction of the room, not the treatment.
Seems like some of you need a clarification as to why the sound proofing is needed. When you record drums for example, there are ALOT of different sounds getting thrown around the room. When you sit down with the mix afterwards, you want to get a clean as possible sound. Sound proofing reduces the echo getting thrown back at the mic's. You dont need to proof the entire room (You shouldn't), but corners are important, and just some squares on different places along the wall.
lol. This shit was like a comedy. With all that stuff you had layin around. I was thinkin maybe the whole room will get convert, but you only did a window with it. hahaha. That was funny. Thanks for the video.
great idea, now i just have 2 figure out way 2 build 1 with electrical outlets so I can plug in my speakers, computer, etc... so I can work in peace. the apartments above me & next 2 me drive me absolutely nuts, as I hear them walk, stomp, etc... but 4 this kind of cubicle, I guess m gona need 1 foot to 2 foot thick walls, door, & space for at least twice my body length, length and width.
so if i were to use his in my room (wich is larger then 3x2 feet squared) will all the sound in my room be attracted to it or is this justs the dumest thing i have ever scene?
Auralex foams has a particular shape on the foam, like some kind of little dunes that are supposed to cancel certain sound frequencies. Yours, in contrast, doesn't have those shapes, yours is a flat pad. So, are those little foam shapes really important at the moment of reverb canceling, do they really make any difference on sound quality? or does a flat pad works fine as well?
it is the same stuff as is in your home walls, and the same principle he uses with fabric is used for keeping you safe in your home. A simple barrier. Also on a different topic, it's acoustic treatment, not sound proofing, sound proofing is to keep sound out of your room and requires floating walls and pouring concrete. This is to deaden sound, kill standing waves, and cancel reflections. It looks like he made a bass trap.
@dmcrae007 that's what the fabric and wood frame is for, to keep the stuff from flying around in the air. Rigid fiberglass panels (a woven fabric version of the blown fiberglass insulation, much like what he is using) has been tested to work as well as auralex foam when used properly...just make sure to wear a mask when you initially build the stuff, give it a while to settle before bringing it in your studio and you should be fine unless you plan for someone to rip the cover off.
It's just Fiberglass Insulation from what it looks like... Probably could work with 703 acoustic fiberglass and lose the framing, it'd be like the walls and panels in a movie theater.
@VOIDFACTORY I can't imagine it weighing much more than 10-15lb, he used what seemed to be oak, but you could use a lighter material like poplar or pine and add some corner braces (small triangle cut from 2-3" boards) for a nice rigid strength.
Your wrong with the fabric, to must be able to see though it when held up, so that the sound can travel throw it and not bounces on it. The company make panels and they work for better then yours but cost more. One thing your Rockwool 80KG make sure that use this or a higher but not Hardrock. but well done

i putted that kinda panel all over my ceiling, its already a great improvement. Now ill complete my project by covering my entire walls with this kinda panel.
The fabric HAS to be acoustically transparent, otherwise, you'll reduce the rockwool/fiberglass absorption and some frequencies will bounce back into the room. Burlap is a great acoustically transparent fabric that you can use.
@CKS5000 Keep in mind that the laws of physics don't care if the fabric is not your style. It has to be acoustically transparent. I mentioned burlap because is the ideal one for budget bass traps/broadband absorvers because it's cheap. You could use Guilford of Maine, SoundSuede(not SonoSuede) that are acoustically tranparent as well and are sold in different colors and styles.
