Sir, I do apologize if that sounded arrogant, but I assure you if you were to ask Fusei Kise when they were to do Kata that they were instructed to do minor alteration to kata that was put on tape. Anyone knows that what you see on tape has been modified in the early years, thus the reason you don't see much of our Matsumura Seito Kata done on tape.
Remember that when these videos were recorded it was intentionally done with items missing! This is a statement that comes directly from Hohan Soken. you can quote me on that. But the basics is the kata, and if you know basics you have correct "family Kata" Brando
Wow, other than just basic tweaks, we have left both these forms alone. The first seen is Passi Sho, the second is Matsumura No Passai/Passai Dai. Both mean to break/breach a rock fortress (or thunder in a forest). The forms seen here are really what students of Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu are taught, especially those under Master Koeppell/Sensei Guy Holtzman.
Is the Melchor Tecson? From the age of the video I would say this person actually trained with Soken Sensei. I don't know and I am assuming. Great execution, although I agree with you about posting it here. I would love to learn the Matsumura Family Art. I have always enjoyed their version of the kata.
While I dont know if these should be posted, I am thankful that it is. As a kobayashi practitioner, it is good to see older versions of the kata. Great historical record. Hopefully, the only people who will find it of value are those who can appreciate the tradition and preserve the intergrity of karate,
Yes i agree these are Matsumura Seito Katas, these are the same kata my school does with a few minor technique differences, i do agree in that they should not be on here without permission from the owner or person how has been passed down ownership
@DJM069 I agree with that as well, this video footage is the property of Kyoshi Charles Garrett and one should have permission before posting it. Clalago isn't the first to do this, however. I obtained a copy from Kyoshi Garrett, lots of good footage from that time frame. True Matsumura Karate.
First, thank you so much for sharing such interesting video. It looks that those are TWO versions of Passai kata (am I wrong?), and they look older than any other version of Pasai that I've seen. Maybe this is closer to the original kata fromMatsumura. Colud you tel us more about it ? Again, thanks a lot

Ok, the katas are Passai SHo and Passai Dai from Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu. It's still taught this way under Master Kise in Okinawa.

It"s interesting to see old film of katas you"ve only heard of. Thanks!!

The first version is what we do in Shorin Ryu Matsumura Seito style. I don't recognize the second version.

interesting that you know Bo Yondan, but not the Passai Dai Kata, when did you come over to KenShinKan, and how long have you been training?
Specter1957 2 years ago
I actually do know the Passai Dai kata (now). I started Kenshinkan in 1984 and stopped in 1989 and returned about 3 years ago.

where do you train? and with whom?
I may know your sensei
Specter1957 2 years ago
In some dojos, like mine, Bo Yondan and Passai Sho are taught at Shodan while Passai Dai is taught at Nidan.
