Great tutorials! My friend taught me the hook kick by starting with an inside crescent kick. When the kick is mid-air, he told me to twist my body to the side or even face the back so as to perform a hook kick. I find it helps me kick higher and more powerful. (Of course the problem is I can't do the same with a spinning hook kick obviously) Any opinions? It will help a lot. Again, awesome tutorials! Thanks.
I dont know if your going to read this but i cant consistently get my kick above shoulder but i did notice that at the height of your kick you are on your tip toes and i am almost flat footed but i dont think that will get me enough height to get this kick high enough and i dont really feel strain in any tendons or muscles when i throw the kick so i dont think its my flexibility. What do you think im doing wrong?
@JaLomangino is not about what you're doing wrong is most about keep practicing, this kick involves a lot of technique, so your muscles have to adapt to the movement, and also the tip toes will help to go higher but its a moment where your stance becomes a little unbalanced too, so you have to practice it to master it
Great how you slow it down for us. I need go no further when I need help with technique. I was wondering if you (or anyone else) could write down the korean for the numbers 1-10 coz we mostly count in english, but very occasionally we need the korean, and I don't know it...
Thanks a lot for these videos...... but I have some problems with punches........ I don't know why, I move my whole body while punching and i noticed that others dont do that..... my punches are pretty powerful, just moving my whole body looks awkward while I punch...... How can I control it?
@Aznflipstuh9469 Its him breathing after kicking, if you hold your breath your kick has not as much power and you will be winded after a few kicks so its important to breathe with each strike.
@ThatNewStreetballer also it in my opinion helps with power also.. but yes the main reason i make the noise is to keep my breathing and stop me getting tired and winded.
Gonna watch more of this tutorials in his playlist so that I have a great guidance for practicing before our Promotion Test + Poomse and Sparring Competitions this May 22 wahahaha,
arg not tryin to troll or anything but you people should get out and get some formal instruction. tutorials are great to help you improve but if you are trying to learn martial arts (with no MA experience) from YT, you may just end up hurting yourself or others. I know it sounds like a silly line you would hear from someone trying to sell you MA classes at a McDojo, but its entirely true.
And lastly, improve your overall flexibility and GET THE KICK RIGHT before trying to gain "hight"
@Sanguinarian13 ie, if you are asking about how to gain height, its obvious that you likely have little knowledge in the way of stretching and martial arts to begin with. which isnt a bad thing I'm not trying to knock anyone, but really there are other things you should be focussing on, the least of which is gaining height in a kick. Form and safety are infinitely more important than height. And if you are that inexperienced you wont want to use the high kick anyways, you'll end up on the mat
@SignedUpForDeath yeah, here you go. an exercise to strengthen the necessary muscles . Grab a couch pillow. Stand near a doorway or wall. Chamber your kicking leg and place pillow on you ankle (outside). Using the doorway for balance, kick in slow-motion while balancing the pillow on your ankle. Your waist and hip area will get a workout. Be sue to do the full range-of-motion. In slow mo.
bruce lee kick...!! Dont do it's if your no training first..coz you can fall on floor..mke u injury hehe..I learn ts kick 1 month first make your complete.."sickle powerfull Hook"
thnk u but can someone help me more cuz i just got my green belt n we have to do skip hook and i was just wondering if there is any kicks to make a hook kick better or warm up for a kick cuz i think it looks preety awesome ..so plz some one reply !plzz
something to add, if you start to bend your leg right to before it connects, it will make it adds an extra mmph to the kick, you can imagine it like a horizontal axe kick, so to speak.
What are the main and the best streching techniques to improve the hook kick. In other words how to streach to increase the hight of the kick? Thanks ;)
The nice thing about a lead hook is that if you find yourself in a closed stance, you can sneak it into a persons blind spot, especially if they just missed an attack.
i find that if i do not point my foot i can retract my leg faster to really snap it on contact and get some greater force and speed but i can the risk of hurting the tendon generated from that method as well
You are not only a skilled martial artist but also a talented teacher! You explain your the techniques comprehensibly with great detail and you never leave anything out. An unfortunately rare but valuable combination. You have my respect and appreciation for posting these tutorials.
wow its awsome how ever i just want to ask i learned to use it in short range to hit the back of the head he well not see it coming can that work? comment please
Yes, it almost becomes second nature. The number one thing I hate seeing from any fighter is a lack of guard.
I used to do ITF Taekwon-do and Muay Thai. But I couldn't find a sturdy balance between the two. As ITF was semi contact and Muay Thai was full contact. I left both for Boxing.

When I do this kick, it ends up being almost like a crescent kick. I find it hard to chamber my knee and do it properly. Are there any tips for that?
