Very interesting and takes me back many years. I did pick up a mistake that the commentator said when talking about the Linotype. He said that anyone familiar with a typewriter would assimilate well when operating a Linotype. In fact the Linotype had a completely different keyboard layout to a typewriter. It was the Monotype system that used a QWERTY keyboard.
how our industry have changed: from a labor intensive one that assured people of their jobs to one that emphasizes on speed and digital production at the expense of jobs for the glorification of profits.
How come this film is titled as 1947, but the title card at the beginning of the film has roman numerals stating 1956? Is this because it was ahead of it's time? Us old London comps notice these things!
i have been in printing for 31 years, and started on a letterpress. one of my first jobs was working in a older shop. so i rember alot of the equipment in this vid. those guys really earned the pay!!!

The guy at 9:05 screwed up. We were taught to NEVER put the plane face down to keep from picking up something that would scratch the type or plates.

This really brings back memories. The industry took a major hit when offset printing and computer typesetting took over.

@TacoCondor12 My first paycheck was working with my dad in a print shop. I'll take today's speedy "digital production" jobs any day.

I think this video is amazing. Our print production class really enjoyed it. We learned so much.

we used a hand press alongside our modern stuff every day until a few years ago :)

@lawnking168 I hope you weren't a compositor. The proof reader would have had a fieldday with your typing, lol
