I bought this interface today and I only need it to record electric guitar, with very low latency, into Ableton Live 8. That's all I need it for, no vocals, live performances or anything, so is this interface any good for what I need it for?? Thanks
does any one use this with windows7? ive had it like a month now and just cant seem to get it to work even after updating to the latest drivers thanks
i just bought this and only the mic part records but not the guitar? i tried all ways for the knob set up but bleh....the guitar sound is coming out of the speaker so at least its playin but any help on comp settings for guitar recording? thx
How well does this work on electric or Acoustic Guitars? and will it have anoying background noise like when you use a mic on a built in default soundcard, i'm using a packard bell computer with vista.
hey, i'm new to these audio interfaces and i'm really interested in buying one. i've got a simple and dumb question. since it's not a midi interface (like m-audio pro) can i use it with fl studio for music production as a replacement for my soundcard? (i'm not really interested in recording or anything)
@Official360 yeah but i believe you're doing everything on a mac..so i don't know if my laptop can do with it (alien m11x - dual core 1.7Gigs 4Gb RAM)
The problem with the condenser mic is that this sound card doesn't have phantom and can not supply with power the condenser mics. The power is coming from the usb port and the power of the usb is 5 volt and the condenser mic needs 48 volts.
@reidwallace If you have never recorded before, yes. If you are planning on professionally releasing your tracks, then no it will end up being too limiting. But it is a great interface for basic home recording. Buy it to learn on and make sure you want to drop a few hundred bucks on a real interface later on.
Heres an easy answer to most the questions ive seen on here. Now i understand alot of people are new to the recording world, but some of these questions i see here are just ridiculously stupid.
1)This interface IS A SOUNDCARD! its meant to replace your built in or existing soundcard and give you the option to use ASIO drivers for recording wich is a must for ANYONE trying to do any kind of productions.
2)this model does NOT have fantom power required for condenser mics.
3) i run this interface on an old machine, a single core 2 ghz processor and the provided asio drivers keep me around 5ms wich is plenty good enough unless you are doing really heavy live recording.
4) the reason you only hear your microphone out of one ear in your headphones is because when you are recording a single mic it is IN MONO! to hear both sides you have to find the option inside whatever software you are using to give you the ability to hear both sides.
5) this interface really is decent for its intended purpose. I.E people just needing low latency, 24 bit recording or just want to record their guitar or keyboard or not doing alot of live recording. Its not the best interface on the planet, but ive ran it for quite a while with no issues on windows XP, windows Vista, and Windows 7 on a slow machine. Alot of the people's complaints ive seen in this review are almost ALL USER PROBLEMS from lack of experience.
ok, So i bought this piece of crap, and its so ironic that while I am watching this video, i still get the clipping sound that has been like that since i bought this M-audio fast track. I wish i never bought it
i just got two a m audio box the other day & my blue bird mic doesnt seem to work for none of them.im use to using a m box mini so this m audio thing i dont understand.what mic should i use? im so upset!
@janri13 I am using mine with FL. I just record into edison (in FL) and then save those as samples to load onto the mixer table and what not. Can't seem to get my guitar to work with it though... so I'm just mic'n my amp as of now.
I want to record some stereo effect featured in my BOSS ME-50 guitar multieffect pedal; through I'm using a stereo cable I can only get a mono sound out of it.
Even my MP3 player sounds mono (or just on the right speaker if I select the stereo button).
Does this also work with Electronic Drums. I cant see why it wouldnt, but apparently the only instruments people are ever incline to talk about are Guitars, Bass, and Keyboards
ayo i really need some help with this interfase setup,i got windows vista,i kant seem 2 get any rekording going on idk wat im doing wrong everythings set up & installed i got a kondenser mik wit the xtra phantom power box i snap my fingers infront it & it wont pik up a thing its driven me krazy not knowing wat im doing ryte
I know that I'm able to record my Dj scratch sessions with fast track pro, but can I do the same thing with this fast track model? I'm guessing I will have to go from master rca to 1/8th inch then connect it through mic?
@AGT415 ya thats what i was doing, you just gotta get the output volume on the fastrack right tho in order to prevent clipping.. i wish youd be able to record with rca on a mixer's record output to rca input on the fasttrack. (im assuming the basic fast track, not the ultra or pro or whatevers out right now..)
Does the m-audio fast usb audio interface have a built in soundcard?? someone help me because i can't seem to be getting a good tone. is it because theres no built in audio sound card in the box and im actually just using my computers built in sound card??

18 channels DIGI 001 works great with Sonar, Cubase or FL, Reaper, etc, so I dont need an stupid limited Pro tools and a crappy 2 channels M-Audio interface...
I have bought this, and I have tried a lot of troubleshooting stuff, including looking at power management in the BIOS as well as having the latest drivers etc. Occaisionally I'll get overload randomly, and it sounds like I have the buffer set to 1ms or something and I get a ton of clicks and pops, and the playback even slows down. I'm using FL Studio, however, it seems to exhibit the same behavior in other software. Also used ASIO4ALL, no change.
Terrible audio quality. Those out of focus camera shots were making me mad. Was trying to look at the product and then you would zoom out, go out of focus.
if your going to use this with Garageband, don't buy it, it's absolute crap, took 40 mins to figure out how to recognise it, an additional 30 to get sound (all I got was feedback) and even then the sound dissapeared. DO NOT BUY!
Free energy has been here all along ,But Millions are spend in supressing that information,Find a motor that needs no fuel or input at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Let the revolution begin!
Let's say i want to record a guitar, a bass, vocals, drum patterns and keyboard but on separate times. meaning,i would do them one after the other. can this be done on this fast Track? does it have drum loops that i can use while i work on my drum patterns to be recorded in a rec studio? will the bass sound be compromised when using this?and most importanly, does this work with Windows 7 Ultimate? i've MKII only works for Mac. i'm trying to get one within the week.
I got this interface and then I bought a RODE NT1-A Condenser microphone, which needs a phantom power source. Can you get the power source separately, or does the actual interface need to have the source?
To constructively add to arktik83's comment: If you're going to zoom in on a product, do it as slow as the camera will possibly allow, and don't stop zooming unless you're changing shots, in which case you can change to a new, fixed shot. Also, use manual focus and make sure you're not too close to the object for the focusing range of the camera. If the going in and out of focus thing was supposed to be an intentional effect, it just doesn't work on handheld cameras.
Can this also be used as a soundcard, say I want to play music of my itunes through my speakers or headphones I just plug them into the headphone output and it will sound crisp and better than my stock soundcard, I recently had a Maya44 soundcard and I encountered a tone of problems with it, getting blue screen and rebooting when ever I turned my PC on so I un-installed it and removed it, Im looking for a replacement... any help??
@43OXFORD Yes. Once pluged in it takes over as ur sound card, Unless u use aiso4all to choose. The sound will come out of it so whatever u plug the RCA to on the back the sound will come out. I run mine into my amp so my pc comes back out my amp
this may sound dumb, but I remember reading on the M-audio website that you need an iLok for Pro Tools M-Powered, is that true (I know you´re not reviewing protools, but I need to know)
Hey. Nice review. I want to know : how much latency it has this interface???... thats my problem with my default sound card :/ .. the latency is not the appropiated to record "at the beat" ..
@pablorockbass i have seen a little latency......everytime this happens, which was normally when I plugged it in after I started the program on the computer (pro tools, garageband, etc.).....all I had to do was quit the program and then start it again and the latency was gone.
@pablorockbass im also facing da same prb.i use a behringer usb condenser microphone nd it has latency prb...will i be able to overcome with latency prb if i get m audio fast track, though my mic is usb interfaced??
You think the fast track can replace an amp? Cause mine sucks to play metal..
So instead of buying an expensive amp, maybe I should buy the fast track, let the program make me some crazy metal sound and use my pc as output.. You think that' will work?
Hey, how can i get the exact same sound from my amp, i plug in guitar -> effects -> amp -> but how can i plug in the amp to the sound interface? please help !
I returned my M-Audio Fast Track Essentials 3 days after I bought it. Why? Because it's non user friendly. Look at that manual in the video. It's only a few pages and written in how many languages? That's right. It comes with no real manual! No instructional DVD! It does have a little tutorial built in but it's wrong! It tells you to push buttons that DON"T EXIST! The trouble shooting section doesn't cover Windows 7! The knobs, words and switches are so tiny you can't see or read some. Junk!!!
I think so, I own this thing myself, But be wary. I bought a condenser microphone and Found out that I need a thing called phantom power so the mic can work. This particular usb interface does not have one (The newer ones do though). So i need to buy a preamp that has phantom power now. So just be careful and read lots and figure out everything before you go and buy it.
Hey, when I use this, I get a TON of static, so i have to turn down the input almost all the way to low, and then increase the output. You know any way to solve this?
I haven't have much success in using this product at all, but I would really like to.
For some reason, I could not find it on the m-audio site, did they discontinue it?
i lost the software when i format my pc and iv also lost the dvd that came with it. i tried to download the software but its not working. could you please tell me how can i download?? help me!!!!!!!!!!11111
hey man everytime i record with this the playback is always stereo, its always on the left speaker and there is nothing coming out of the right speaker. what should i do? im using garageband btw
i have this and going back i would not buy it again, there are better interfaces around the same price, if you buy this be prepared to have a fuzzy sound on your tracks, its great for a beginner who is using a live mic like the sm58, but when you want to create better quiality music, you're better off like he said getting the fast track pro or ultra as they have phantom power also. hope this helps
@lilkountry884 no. this is for converting analog sound inputs (such as a guitar, mic, or mixer) to a digital form that a computer then translates and allows you to edit, enhance, ect. A USB mic does that for you. It does what this would do without the extra hardware. A USB mic should be good to go on it's own.
This is a wonderful sound card. I use it mainly to play virtual instruments. I have had no problems at all, latency is at 5MS, three time lower than what a most built-in soundcards give. Polophony is not a problem either, sing with XP 512 RAM.
I have a microphone that I want to use to record a conference table conversation with a couple other people. Now when I try to direct record into my PC laptop, it comes out way to low in volume. Will this boost the signal to a much higher level? Is this the same as what phantom power does? I'm recording interviews where I just want to set a condenser mike down on the table about 4feet away, not hold it close to my mouth. Thank you.
@Arktik83 Hi there, I am glad you found something you don't like about our videos, but instead of being an arsehole about it, how about you talk directly to us instead of bitching about it? Then we can improve :)
Well I did just highlight one of the annoyances of your videos, you call me an arsehole but hopefully you'll take my "bitching" on board and stop the dramatic out of focus zoom. :)
@Arktik83 Forreal. I scrolled through and I don't really think you were being an "arsehole."
The constant zooming in/out and out-of-focus shots really led me to gain nothing from this video. I didn't see the product in use, any examples of it, just what seems to be a spec sheet and a bunch of out of focus shots that barely allowed me to see how everything connected to the product.
@Techwebolution Wow. You call someone who makes a cheeky yet harmless and non offensive remark an arsehole ? I certainly wont be subbing. Grow up, you wanted feedback didnt you ?

Sorry, I'm new to microphones.

which camera/software did you use, looks cool i mean the zoom fx
GeorgeTabs 1 year ago
To constructively add to arktik83's comment: If you're going to zoom in on a product, do it as slow as the camera will possibly allow, and don't stop zooming unless you're changing shots, in which case you can change to a new, fixed shot. Also, use manual focus and make sure you're not too close to the object for the focusing range of the camera. If the going in and out of focus thing was supposed to be an intentional effect, it just doesn't work on handheld cameras.

i knew this is a stupid question, is this a sound card or what? does it make the sound of the microphone clearer ?

Can this also be used as a soundcard, say I want to play music of my itunes through my speakers or headphones I just plug them into the headphone output and it will sound crisp and better than my stock soundcard, I recently had a Maya44 soundcard and I encountered a tone of problems with it, getting blue screen and rebooting when ever I turned my PC on so I un-installed it and removed it, Im looking for a replacement... any help??
43OXFORD 1 year ago
@43OXFORD Yes. Once pluged in it takes over as ur sound card, Unless u use aiso4all to choose. The sound will come out of it so whatever u plug the RCA to on the back the sound will come out. I run mine into my amp so my pc comes back out my amp
The7DeadlyStrings 1 year ago
this may sound dumb, but I remember reading on the M-audio website that you need an iLok for Pro Tools M-Powered, is that true (I know you´re not reviewing protools, but I need to know)

can u recommend a good condenser mic that doesnt need phantom power?

Hey. Nice review. I want to know : how much latency it has this interface???... thats my problem with my default sound card :/ .. the latency is not the appropiated to record "at the beat" ..
Thanks

@pablorockbass id like to know this too :)

EastSideSouljaz 6 months ago
@EastSideSouljaz a pretty powerful PC would help! But the Fast Track will bring your latency down a pretty good amount.

@pablorockbass I have 8 ms of latency with this. Pretty good!

I WILL NEVER PURCHASE AN "M-AUDIO" PRODUCT AS LONG AS I LIVE! Shit made in China has always been cheap!
LittleNegrilio 1 year ago
You think the fast track can replace an amp? Cause mine sucks to play metal..
So instead of buying an expensive amp, maybe I should buy the fast track, let the program make me some crazy metal sound and use my pc as output.. You think that' will work?

Thanks. I didn't like the out of focus shots, the music was too loud, voice too weak, but still thanks for the review.

Junk!!!

Im using this for recording some raps and what not. Will this be good?
gator3395 1 year ago
@gator3395

Hey cool review, but might I suggest a little less zooming in and out and less blur? Other than that I liked it :)

i have this and going back i would not buy it again, there are better interfaces around the same price, if you buy this be prepared to have a fuzzy sound on your tracks, its great for a beginner who is using a live mic like the sm58, but when you want to create better quiality music, you're better off like he said getting the fast track pro or ultra as they have phantom power also. hope this helps

can you use this with a usb mic???
lilkountry884 1 year ago

Techwebolution 2 years ago
Well I did just highlight one of the annoyances of your videos, you call me an arsehole but hopefully you'll take my "bitching" on board and stop the dramatic out of focus zoom. :)
Arktik83 2 years ago
@Arktik83 Forreal. I scrolled through and I don't really think you were being an "arsehole."
The constant zooming in/out and out-of-focus shots really led me to gain nothing from this video. I didn't see the product in use, any examples of it, just what seems to be a spec sheet and a bunch of out of focus shots that barely allowed me to see how everything connected to the product.
