Rockschool pieces aren't difficult to play per se.. But they are hard to play well. To get a decent grade you need to have pretty good timing and accuracy. Rockschool judges whether or not you can play what your given well and accurately. Also, grade 8 in general means nothing. You think Jimi Hendrix ever got his grade 8? Course not. Grade 8 is just a qualification and a doorway to what the guitar truly is.

Don't go round saying it's easy till you get your grade 8.

don't worry about it too much, just remember, the bigger the number, the bigger the solo XD

I never found there was much change in pieces from grade 1 to 8 in difficulty, what did get harder was the theory behind them. By time my soloing was of grade 8 standard my ability to sight read was still at grade 2 standard. I soon picked it up when I started playing sessions though.

Erm, well it originally took me about 2 years. But thats conz I learnt solo based pieces from day one. Ive been playing guitar for over 20 years now. My theory still isn't quite that good, but I can cope with sessions.

This is rock guitar, this isn't classical, this standard of playing on the nylons would probably be about grade 5.

i dont think the two genres can be compared, classical guitar is played by the book and is about being as perfect as possible whereas rock is more about being creative-lots of parts of this differ from the way its done in the book, and the book tells you to adat the tunes to your playing style
