I'm a proud American Stafford owner (the term pit bull is quite broad and includes several other breeds). My dog is very soft tempered, loves nothing more than attention, and is an overall friendly and very hyperactive dog. I see people cross the street with their little ankle biting dogs and the small ones always bark first. My dog never barks back. He only wants to play. People who think that these dogs are naturally agressive know next to nothing about dogs. It's all about how you raise them.
@herkull1 I don't know the difference between the two breed's characters, but they really do look similar on the outside. I know they aren't the same, but they are cousins, so there must be a lot of similarities. People always call them pit bulls, whether they're Amstaffs or not, so I wouldn't be able to tell the major differences between the breeds. I do know that the Staffordshire Bull terrier is way smaller, so that's easy. But the differences between Amstaffs and APBTs? No idea.

It may surprise you to know that many years ago, I used to own a sibling pair of Rottweilers. They were wonderful dogs.However, would I recomend them as pets for the average person? HELL NO! My grandfather owned 9 pit bulls (3 Staffies, 6 APBT) in his lifetime, and they never so much as growled at anyone. My aunt specializes in fostering pit bulls, and not once has she had an aggressive one on her hands. I've fostered about six myself before getting a Staffie of my own, with no difficulties.

There should be a warning also at the end if the video. While not all pits are dangerous, they are a very powerful dog with the potential to severely injure more so than most other dogs. These facts are misleading also, while pits dont have locking jaws they unlike k9 rarely bite and release, there is a reason why brady barr tested bite strength of pitts rotts and crocodiles instead of lab and golden bites.

The sad thing is, prior to buying my Clumber spaniel 16 months ago, I had no opinion on shit bulls. I was only very vaguely aware of them and their reputation and that was it. It was only after I started walking my dog in my two local parks and witnessing their psychotic nature and the supreme malevolence of their sad and pathetic owners that my views hardened. Anyone who thinks Pits are aggressive to humans is ignorant. They were bred to fight in pits. Humans often had to separate the dogs, so it wouldn't make sense to have human aggression in the breed.
The media coverage of pitbulls as this deadly aggressive breed makes me want to cry. Some of the best dogs I've ever seen in my life have been pitbulls, and I don't think any dog is more eager to please you.
I have a pit bull and he is the most friendly dog I have ever known. He stays loose in my yard. However, I live in rural Kentucky, and my redneck neighbors often stare at him with weird looks on their faces. Word is apparently spreading that I have him I saw a redneck in a big red truck driving by with a stern look on his face staring at my dog. It is really pissing me off but I'm afraid I could lose him to some dumbass redneck and their deer rifle for no fucking reason.. can anyone give advice?

Another thing Pit bulls were not originally bred for fighting. They were bred to be catch dogs for semi-wild cattle and hogs, to hunt, to drive livestock, find and kill rats, and as family companions. Also it used to be believed that if a bull went into a butcher shop with a pit hanging from its neck then the meat was more tender. This is where the Bull Terrier comes from, and later on the Pit was added on when they became the fighting dog of choice. They are thrown in the Pit to fight.
If you really wanna know what makes a Pit so dangerous it's their loyalty to us. While I understand that many people fear the dogs because of the news & media, if you really think about it, it tends to be only bad news that travel fast. Pitbulls are loyal, caring, and protective. If trained properly (and while it takes some work, it's not impossible) they are great around children and babies. If all you have to say are negative things about the pitbull, seriously, get a life.

I think it's offensive that people find pitbulls "intimidating" or "scary." My 4 year-old pitbull is the sweetest dog you'd ever meet. When he meets you, all he'll want to do is check you out. Actually, everything in the video is true. I've done my research as well. They do have one of the strongest jaw muscles but their bite power is the same...the only thing that stronger muscle does is allow them to hang on longer w/o getting tired which is why people "think" their jaw locks, which it doesn't. I've also seen the tests on the breed temperment available on the web. I'm a coder at a children's hospital & the worst damage I seen came from a lab, hardly ever see a pit bite.
My pit looks just like the black one at the beginning of the video but w/less white. I used to believe the media hype until my oldest son brought a puppy home when he was 17 saying it was a boxer mix. He didn't get the pit look until he was a bit older but by then, I was hooked. He ended up becoming my dog. He was raised with 2 other dogs & a cat. He lets the pomapoo rule. Never had any issues except that he's horribly terrified of thunderstorms, lol. It is a trait PEOPLE have bred into them. It is only an issue with some pits. My boy was bad about it when he was little. @Ms4him You are sooo right! The most aggressive dogs (actually the only aggressive dogs) I have ever known were a shih-tzu, chihuahua, and a blue heeler. The sweetest dog I have ever known (other than my own, of course) was a Rottweiler. He was best friends for years with one of our dogs.

You can't apply racial profiling to a canine, it's stupid and illogical. Dogs are bred with certain temperaments and generally adhere to that. People copulate with anyone thus diluting the chances of specific temperament being dominant in a given population. When it comes to the temperament test you're using that as an excuse for the pit bulls that do attack. In the past two months there have been 18 people attacked by pit bulls. And more than 188 people that have died in the past decade. This is at least 18 people each year while most dogs average around 1-5 if that for their decade count. Sure there are good pits, but just because a dog passes a temperament test it does not mean its a good dog overall.
You were doing a good job until you got to the aggression part. Firstly you're presuming a fighting dog has the mental capacity to comprehend dog from cat from human. I'm a proud American Stafford owner (the term pit bull is quite broad and includes several other breeds). My dog is very soft tempered, loves nothing more than attention, and is an overall friendly and very hyperactive dog. I see people cross the street with their little ankle biting dogs and the small ones always bark first. My dog never barks back. He only wants to play. People who think that these dogs are naturally agressive know next to nothing about dogs. It's all about how you raise them.

I know they aren't the same, but they are cousins, so there must be a lot of similarities. People always call them pit bulls, whether they're Amstaffs or not, so I wouldn't be able to tell the major differences between the breeds. I do know that the Staffordshire Bull terrier is way smaller, so that's easy. But the differences between Amstaffs and APBTs? No idea.

My grandfather owned 9 pit bulls (3 Staffies, 6 APBT) in his lifetime, and they never so much as growled at anyone. My aunt specializes in fostering pit bulls, and not once has she had an aggressive one on her hands. I've fostered about six myself before getting a Staffie of my own, with no difficulties.

There should be a warning also at the end if the video. While not all pits are dangerous, they are a very powerful dog with the potential to severely injure more so than most other dogs. These facts are misleading also, while pits dont have locking jaws they unlike k9 rarely bite and release, there is a reason why brady barr tested bite strength of pitts rotts and crocodiles instead of lab and golden bites.

The sad thing is, prior to buying my Clumber spaniel 16 months ago, I had no opinion on shit bulls. I was only very vaguely aware of them and their reputation and that was it. It was only after I started walking my dog in my two local parks and witnessing their psychotic nature and the supreme malevolence of their sad and pathetic owners that my views hardened. A chihuahua bit my 2 yr old daughter. A German Shepherd knocked over my step-daughter AND her Great Grandmother. A mini-pincher bit my wife's leg. Her brother was mauled by a German Shepherd when he was a boy. Do you want me to go on??

Anyone who thinks Pits are aggressive to humans is ignorant. They were bred to fight in pits. Humans often had to separate the dogs, so it wouldn't make sense to have human aggression in the breed.
The media coverage of pitbulls as this deadly aggressive breed makes me want to cry. Some of the best dogs I've ever seen in my life have been pitbulls, and I don't think any dog is more eager to please you.

I have a pit bull and he is the most friendly dog I have ever known. He stays loose in my yard. However, I live in rural Kentucky, and my redneck neighbors often stare at him with weird looks on their faces. Word is apparently spreading that I have him I saw a redneck in a big red truck driving by with a stern look on his face staring at my dog. Another thing Pit bulls were not originally bred for fighting. They were bred to be catch dogs for semi-wild cattle and hogs, to hunt, to drive livestock, find and kill rats, and as family companions. Also it used to be believed that if a bull went into a butcher shop with a pit hanging from its neck then the meat was more tender. This is where the Bull Terrier comes from, and later on the Pit was added on when they became the fighting dog of choice. They are thrown in the Pit to fight.

While I understand that many people fear the dogs because of the news & media, if you really think about it, it tends to be only bad news that travel fast. Pitbulls are loyal, caring, and protective. If trained properly (and while it takes some work, it's not impossible) they are great around children and babies. If all you have to say are negative things about the pitbull, seriously, get a life.

Pitbulls are extremely loyal dogs, they would do anything and everything that their owner asked them for. Unfortunately, this and their powerful bite is the reason that many delinquents use these dogs as fighting dogs. They will not give up as long as they are breathing.
But this is all up to the owner. A pitbull was awarded a silver star(?) for bravery in WWI for saving his platoon when they were pinned down. Helen Keller's companion dog was a pitbull... it's the owners not the dog.

I think it's offensive that people find pitbulls "intimidating" or "scary." My 4 year-old pitbull is the sweetest dog you'd ever meet. When he meets you, all he'll want to do is check you out. Make sure you're okay. This breed is one of the most amazing out there. It's a damn shame people are using them as "show" dogs and not appreciating them for their characteristics. Actually, everything in the video is true. I've done my research as well. They do have one of the strongest jaw muscles but their bite power is the same...the only thing that stronger muscle does is allow them to hang on longer w/o getting tired which is why people "think" their jaw locks, which it doesn't. I've also seen the tests on the breed temperment available on the web. I'm a coder at a children's hospital & the worst damage I seen came from a lab, hardly ever see a pit bite.

My pit looks just like the black one at the beginning of the video but w/less white. I used to believe the media hype until my oldest son brought a puppy home when he was 17 saying it was a boxer mix. He didn't get the pit look until he was a bit older but by then, I was hooked. He ended up becoming my dog. He was raised with 2 other dogs & a cat. He lets the pomapoo rule. Never had any issues except that he's horribly terrified of thunderstorms, lol. Such a big baby. :) I love their personality

It is a trait PEOPLE have bred into them. It is only an issue with some pits. My boy was bad about it when he was little. you guys are amatuers, i got 30 years into pitbulls, each individual dog is different some pitbulls will bite so hard theyll break bones crush rib cages do terrible injuries, then some pitbulls will barley be able to break the skin. same with the other breeds. also head size doesnt really matter either, big head dont make hartd biters, also no matter how hard a dog can bite he wont unless he wants to, hard bite is mental trait to, ive been biten hard by a pitbull like my hand was in a vice

On this one its wrong about that pitbull and the rottwiler and the german sheprd having the hardest bite is is the tottwiler , german sheperd , and tha belgain malinois . They look like german sheprds and have the same sructure

The only time I have ever been bitten was by a Shitzu! I have only known one pitbull that was aggressive and he started out as a sweet loving dog . Once his owners lost interest and started chaining him, he did what any bored dog of ANY breed would do and got a little aggressive. More people are bitten by small dogs than pitbulls. Off all the dogs that have been in my life the 2 best behaved and most gentle were a pitbull and a Rottweiller.

@Ms4him You are sooo right! The most aggressive dogs (actually the only aggressive dogs) I have ever known were a shih-tzu, chihuahua, and a blue heeler. The sweetest dog I have ever known (other than my own, of course) was a Rottweiler. He was best friends for years with one of our dogs.

i believe it is nurture not nature that makes a dog what it is. yes there are breeds that have better impermanent than others. i wouldn't trust a baby around a boxer. not because boxers are known to be vicious but because they are too hyper and could be a danger to a small child. i respect the way you but this together in trying not to cause any up roar but i would suggest a good month of research and a works cited page before you make a fool of yourself with this poorly made throw together.

You can't apply racial profiling to a canine, it's stupid and illogical. Dogs are bred with certain temperaments and generally adhere to that. People copulate with anyone thus diluting the chances of specific temperament being dominant in a given population. When it comes to the temperament test you're using that as an excuse for the pit bulls that do attack. In the past two months there have been 18 people attacked by pit bulls. And more than 188 people that have died in the past decade. This is at least 18 people each year while most dogs average around 1-5 if that for their decade count. Sure there are good pits, but just because a dog passes a temperament test it does not mean its a good dog overall.
