I don't think the US audience got the British cultural references at all. That's why the majority and the critics didn't like it. They didn't understand the show. I mean Homer Simpson is nothing like Stressed Eric.

I am an American! Alas, though I thoroughly enjoy Stressed Eric I do not have a tape of the NBC version. That being said, I can't imagine the esteemed Hank Azaria doing a better Eric than Mark Heap. Eric with Chief Wiggams voice? Naah. Long live Stressed Eric! (On DVD, of course.  It will be out when??)

Wow, haven't seen this for years! I was 13 when this aired in the UK and I remember laughing so much at this scene! It's just the awesome build-up of hope, followed by the crushing despair of a comedic explosion. LOVE IT!

I don't know why they stopped at 2 series, maybe the creator was sick of it. It was screened at a very bad time of day on BBC2, dinner time slot. It takes a lot of publicity or a quickly acquired cult following to make it from that position. Mighty Boosh made it, so it can be done. Most people I know haven't heard of this though. :S
