Yes, instead of painting this from observation he reverse coloured it, ensuring that his 'cover up' strokes left behind PERFECT strokes beneath, so that when he reversed it it would seem like he was making strokes, when in fact, he's just super-badass at making strokes underneath, uh... strokes.

Oh I used a texture brush, I think its a default one in Photoshop CS. Its called Chalk 36 Pixels.
