Too much emphasis on the cruel message. The original by Richard and Linda sounds like a lullaby as a contrast to the lyrics. And I clearly prefer that ironic approach.
This is a great way to show everyone your new found sobriety. I'm glad you're finally off the crack but you still have a way to go junior. Next step is to come to grips with your homosexuality. You can't truly heal until your true to yourself.
Pretty well done. He covered Withered And Died from off the same album too, a great album named I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight. I would be hard pressed to choose between that one and Imperial Bedroom.
I was at an EC concert in the early 80's (I know that dates me, whatever) and he covered this song. I had never heard it before until then. In the stadium of 7,000 people there was a stunned silence. You could hear a pin drop because it was so beautiful and omninous at the same time! Thanks for loading this vid!

Poisonous..very dark and sinister, anger and bitterness rules as usual, wouldn't be suprised if Mr.Costello's music has persuaded people to kill themselves. He surely don't walk it like he talks it being married with twins. Cast down the accuser!

Elvis Costello reminds me of the head of the Ouroborus, criticizing and tearing at everything and everyone in man's and god's creation. This music is chemotherapy to the soul.
i think you mean disillusion, not delusion, but yes -so so sad (and yet somehow funny too - RT is definitely one of the best lyricists EVER, in any genre)
Brilliant.

It makes sense for EC to cover RT, espcially this song -- they are both brilliant but dark

PS: For the naysayers....it can't all be "Pump it Up" all the time!

Elvis Costello - Richard Thompson = Huge Mutual Respect. They are very different, and vive la difference! Two men of immense, unique talent.

Alters the chords as well, no? Love EC, but it's just not as good as RT.

good cover. I prefer Richard Thompson's original though, Elvis alters the melody slightly and it's not quite as good

I like this cover. Haven't heard it in ages.
It's one of those things I've got on vinyl I keep thinking I'm going to copy to disc one day. Not seen it on CD.

This is a great cover of one of the bleakest and most beautiful songs ever recorded. Thanks for uploading this video.
