I've seen all sorts of BBC idents and stuff - but this - nightmare.

Next to Test Card F - it was this that I used to FEAR, beginnings of VHS tapes! But not just the beginnings, once the tape was over, I had to run out the room in fear this depressing, sinister logo was about to come on.

I had this on an 'Animals of Farthing Wood' cassette. The show was scary enough without this shit at the beginning and end!

What scared me also was the end of the tape, when it just went to that high pitched tone and the colour bars.

I can see myself thinking of this music right as the last light from the sun on Antarctica falls below the horizon for a winter of cold and pitch darkness, never to shine it's light on the land again for 3 months. It's dark and eerie.

This tune used to scare the hell out of me! And i was only about one! And yeah i agree with your comments its because it ends on a low note with a echo - it makes you feel alone and frightened - i sometimes used to cry when this came on and now looking back at it i wish they still had idents like this! The 1997 ribbion one was my favourite though but nowadays theres nothing sinister or exciting to them at all - well at least it wont scare children!

Its soo scary because its starts of high and gets lower by the third beat leaving that depressing its all about to end like feeling. Which makes you think of complete silence and haunted tradegys if u get what i mean. I was petrified of it as a kid. Because 1 day when my mum left me on my own in the living room with the door shut because she was busy. I was sitting on the floor when this tune came on. I was kicking and screaming at the door. This has given me nightmares ever since.

God I remember this so well, it was on the doctor who video I bought back in 1996, the peter davison EARTHSHOCK!

The echos of the deep beats, as well as the colours emerging out of the the back groud, is maybe what gives it resonance, and if you switch around the chords, you get the opening for channel 4 news!

I loved the 1990's idents, the ones nowadays look's too polished, and lacks the thrills of the old ones.
