Nice one again. Does it normally get this windy on the S&C? Also, apprantly there are loads of P.W.S. (Permant Way Slacks) on the South Bound runs, and so its not possible to locos to challenge for the Blue Ribbon anymore. Is that correct? I hope i'm wrong.
Yes it does normally get this windy on the S&C Steam1989. I dont know how I've missed your comment previouly, my apologies.
On the day this was filmed, the wind was quite mild, some days its hard to stand up on the best locations for filming and yes I will have to invest in a sheilded microphone, LoL.
I cant understand why people make stupid comments like this, because unless somebody moved Ribblehead viaduct to Garsdale without me noticing when I filmed this, it was DEFINITELY RIBBLEHEAD!
Yes, sorry about that, of course you are quite correct, I normally view the viaduct from the main road, near the Station Hotel and as I have not been up there for many many years, the curvature off the viaduct leading up to Blea Moor tunnel looked far too steep, from how I remembered it.....
I am priviliged to work on the 'DUKE'S support team and it is every bit as impressive as it looks. Even the footplate crew who man the DUKE say that when its on song, the sounds of sheer power give them goose bumps.
No matter what the load or the incline the DUKE'S always got power to spare. Its just a pity it appeared at the end of the steam era.
Indeed, I've often thought that she'd make a great prototype for a new generation of express steam locos, to use British coal, so we wouldn't have to rely so much on imported oil.
Linesider has said most of what I would say, I liked the choice of location so we could see the vastness of the space through which the Carlisle and Settle line runs. And yes, the light on the smoke on the viaduct is great too!
That was very good - thanks very much for sharing. Great lighting on the smoke on the viaduct, and on the engine as it turns the corner. Like the zoom in at the end too. Great stuff!
Then you should come to the East Lancashire railway, based in Bury, Lancashire, where 'DUKE OF GLOUCESTER' and many other famous locos are based. I work on the railway, where I am the VOLUNTEER LIAISON OFFICER/EXHIBITION MANAGER, and general dogs body.
Steam to spare but not too much. Excellent firing!
