legato rules,,, sweep picking has been abused lately and it gets boring, a lot of guitar players nowadays are extremely technical but boring as hell... legato in my opinion is more subtle ... I'm working on my legato lot lately

until recently, they havent released vai's sig jem as a left-handed model, so he flipped it over and put the strings on it upside-down so it would work left-handed.

Volker,this video is amazing,just like any other video of yours :),your playing is inspirational as always;),because I love legato,but I noticed that notes in my hammer-ons aren't on same volume and the wierd part of it is that the notes which are the problem are those which I hammer with my fingers.I figured out it could be my light picking technique(I work on fluid picking too :)),but I think it's problem with my fretting hand technique.Could you give me some advice how to solve that problem?

Hit the strings harder, not hard enough to raise the pitch of the string when you touch it but hard enough so it rings clearly, make sure your pull-offs are clear too.

Look up a short instructional MIT video by Allen Hinds, something under the lines of "Developing Legato Strength".

hello, I have a problem, I seem to play very well after not touching my guitar for a 2-4 days, after I play though, I play too much and wear down my calluses, then my fingers don't want to slide as easily on the strings, it feel lots of friction. Any advice?

Clean your strings with a cleaner product, wash your hands before and after you play, get better calluses.

Necro : Young players only wanna hear flashy technique , theres no point being able to play light speed without having decent feel. Contrasting speeds help build intensity,tension,atmosphere etc - real good players arent all about technique.

Well, great solos sound different in different contexts. Some songs will sound better with a solo that jumps right in strong. Songs like these will sound cooler if you build a solo up slowly.

The reason for learning legato was Satriani and later Richie Kotzen.

I have very long fingers so things were very naturally.
