For those who never hear about BMW M5... Back in 90's when E34 M5 was born lots of 911 Porsche owners were blown by the M5. Back in Europe we nick named the E34 M5 'Porsche killer'. Of course not turbo models. Same with the E28 M5 back in late 80's BMW E28 M5 beat lots of 911 porsche. But with all the respect to Porsche I can say its a piece of art engineering !!!!!!!!

As an M5 owner (albeit the V8 E39) and a 996 X50 Turbo owner, the Turbo is much faster. Even on paper the X50 will do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. The M5, even the newer one, cannot match that unless it heavily modified.

By the way I love both cars the same - I have just spent £3000 on a full respray on the M5 and she looks gorgeous. They are just very different cars. The M5 is a brute, the Porsche is a sports car.

Something doesn't make sense here.  The Porsche is a lot lighter and, according to the video, makes more power. The Turbo definitely gives it a torque advantage as well. So, the only advantage the M5 would have is gearing. I'm seeing the video just like everyone else but I'm just not sure the Porsche is making the power that's advertised.

The last few hundred revs in a car with a forced induction engine (in this case the 996 turbo)are kind of useless. The boost, and therefore the power, don't really increase in the last couple hundred revs. If the guy in the Porsche was short shifting, that could be the reason. Still though, awesome race. The M5 has an amazing engine.
