I like Peter even if I do not agree with him on everything. I think the difference between him and his brother is that he, unlike C-Hitchens, does not spend his time debating simply to raise his own profile as an intellectual. I'm talking about how Christopher relentlessly attacks ALL religion, even Buddhism, as an evil well and above its true extent; e.g. C-Hitchens arguing that Hitler was a practising Christian with very spurious evidence indeed.

Peter Hitchens is one of the few political commentators in Britain today with a backbone. Whether one agrees with his conclusions or not is a different matter however you have to admire his clearness of thinking. For what it is worth, he is absolutely correct here regarding the dulling conformity of modern day politics and society in general.

To use the cliche 'at the end of the day' perople vote with their feet. Where are all the white people that used to live in, now black, areas of London? We have the 'brain drain', 'green-shifting' etc. All should be seen as 'white flight' and that is what I'm about to do. I'm off to NZ for a culture that I am comfortable with. Why? 25 years of English fleeing to my area without fight. I have supported the BNP for 20 years but due to the dumbed-down masses I'm FORCED to flee. I've had enough.

He always talks about democracy and individual liberty, yet Margaret Thatcher gave back our economic and social liberty, yet he criticises her because people chose to live their lives according to their own doctrine rather than those of the Church.

No he criticises Thatcher because her Govrnment had no central ideology apart from the free market, which cannot,by itself, hold a society together. Thatcher allowed the education system to get worse, the welfare state to grow, and EU regulation to replace trade unions

The education system didn't get worse under Thatcher. It has been devalued under Labour.

Thatcher was a fierce opponent of EU regulation, and it was Howe, Lawson and Major who forced her to accept SEA and ERM.

There is no such thing as society. It is an invention of left wing Islington liberals and Guardianistas who seek intellectual justification for a big state that steals from its people and spends our money for us.

the education system did indeed get worse under Thatcher You know why? Because as Education Secretary, and then Prime Minister, she was collecctively responsible for CLOSING more grammar schools than Labour!

There is such a thing as society, but it doesnt mean what liberals want to make it mean. Society means a community with a common culture, exactly the thing multiculturalism and family breakdown, and globalisation and mass immigration(which Thatcher supported) have destroyed

I agree, Mrs Thatcher made a huge mistake in closing down so many grammar schools.

Multiculturalism has destroyed what is known as society. Globalisation of economies dosen't affect society at all. The Chinese have benefitted hugely from globalisation, and yet they still retain all of their traditions and their proud heritage. So do the British, in the form of Church and Monarchy.

Globalisation does affect society, because it submerges local culture beneath mass global brands, so everything becomes Americanised, and everything small and local and unique closes down, and globalisation brings mass movement of labour, which means mass immigration, another thing that destroys society, as it necessitates multiculturalism. Most of the things Thatcher did made this country worse.

Let's assume you are right (you are not). What is so bad about it? The whole point of a market economy is that the consumer chooses. If the consumer wishes to purchase Starbucks Coffee in perpetuity, who are you to stop him?

Major conglomerates use dirty tricks, notably PR and buying up small businesses to smother competition. They are frequently caught doing it. And the international trade rules on subsidies are tilted in favour of big investors, so the prices of certain products will always have a price advantage over local products

Also, monopolies are the product of government regulation. Not all, but most. Healthcare in America is a great example of government regulation having adverse effects.

Subsidies are completely inimical to free markets. Subsidies are the bastard children of corporatism, which is what the world has suffered for a century.

Regulation does indeed produce monopolies,which is why big business loves the European Union,and the flood of maternity rights/minimum wage/limited working hours rights coming out of the EU,all these regulations cost so much that they close small businesses at birth, thus suffocating any potential competition the monopolies might have.

Gloat if you want but I never said he liked or supported Thatcher, just that he might have said the odd good thing about her - in between saying bad things of course: "Her Bruges speech and her famous "No! No! No!" outburst against European Union rule are greatly to her credit...She also deserves credit for standing up to the Warsaw Pact and for breaking the power of the unions..." Hitchens wrote this in his blog and by his standards it is almost canonisation, albeit accompanied by demonisation.

Its such an obvious point I cant believe you cant see it! Can men get pregnant? Are women as physically strong, or tall, as most average men? Are women as interested inc ompetitve sports as men, or as agressive? But there are no such differences between people of different races.
