  • hi, I have some suggestiom for you, that your right hand to hold the bow will limited your further learning. So I will suggestion you to look at the video I took from Zhao who has more than 30 years teaching experienced. Master says, Learning Erhu, your arms have to be like a flying eagle, you have to open you arms.... Hope it helps. Best regards.

  • @jennys2baby thank you very much!

  • Awesome job. My Erhu is being shipped as I wait.

  • I listen to your playing for 3 days already. Love the song. I am about to take erhu class next week. I have no musical skill or talent at all but hope I could play as good as you do after a few years of practicing. I would be contented enough. I really love your video. thanks for posting.

  • nice :D but the way u are holding ur bow is wrong.. mayb u can search the net on how to hold it the right way, all the best!!

  • Sounds Great!! I've just started learning with Jinghu and am gradually improving, I have an Erhu aswell but cannot get a sound from it. Could it be because my bow is not waxed enough? or some other reason? I think I am holding the bow and Erhu correctly enough.

  • awesome job, Im not chinese but i lovet his song on erhu. i used to own a cheap erhu but couldnt figure out where to get the music sheet for this song for free.. and now i dont have the erhu anymore :(

  • This is not a beginner playing at all ! I needed almost 2 years just to feel comfortable doing slide and vibration "tricks" . I just don't understand that sometimes my A string make terrible noise when playing on the open string.

I went to Shanghai to buy my second ( better )erhu and still occurred the terrible noice. In conclusion I guess the problem is with myself, erhu isn't an easy instrument but surely the most BEAUTIFUL !

  • can you do a tutorial on how to tune it? like what is the two string sound should be on?

  • how long you study your erhu....

  • @txoojcagkeebmem

at that time it was after a couple of month of daily practice (20-30 minutes each day)

now i did not play the erhu since a long time! :(

  • So beautifully played for a beginner! May I ask, were you self-taught? I really want to learn to play, but I don't have the resources. :(

  • mine just arrived from singapure! just tried bowing and it sounded as terrible as I expected :D this is gonna be SO COOL!!

    Great playing dude!!!!

  • These instruments are absolutely beautiful. I went and found a very nice one on Ebay, for 40 Dollars. It had 40 Dolalr shipping too. Its rosewood, with Snakeskin bass too. I absolutely admire the sound of these instruments. I am very excited to recieve my Erhu, and know i will practice it all the time. Very well done by the way, I think that if you keep up your finger work and improve on your bowing possibly as many others say, you have quite a bit of potential :) Keep it up!

  • amazing! i really want to buy one, but would it be a waste to buy a cheap one under a hundred bucks?

  • Very nice. You're already moving past the gasping wheeze level. I still make strangled cat sounds. Bowed instruments are really hard to learn!

I hope you'll make more erhu videos. I love the tone.

  • I just got an erhu yesterday, and I suck! But I'm gonna keep at it...I play flute and piano so that's good I guess haha

  • good! Keep it up! Lets jam together... I am a dulcimer player..

  • Congratulations!! really excellent work, even more that you learned by yourself. I only have a small suggestion with great respect for you and my best wishes. Seems to me fingering is fine, probably the bow technique needs more work. See arm flow and elbow work from other players. Keep up the good work. I admire your talent!

  • wow! and do u know another way to buy it online or what website because im really interested getting one !!

  • where u bought ur erhu at?

  • @MsNintendogs

in beijing, but i don't remember the street! :P

  • @bosone666 and do u know any other website that sells erhus at so i can buy it online i really want one!!

  • Hello. Nice job. I am just starting. Have not had a single lesson and I play no other instruments/. Is it possible to learn it as first instrument in your opinion?

  • I'm going to china next year, are they cheaper to buy directly in china?

  • @PhinnyCobbler

    absolutely!!

  • @bosone666 really? would I be able to buy an erhu worth 300 for like 100 after exchange rates?

  • Sounds absolutely beautiful. Very elaborate expressive use for someone who has been learning for a few months. Gives me a bit of a spurring on. I'd really like to learn to play the erhu. Would you say experience in playing guitar gives you some advantage. I mean I've heard how a guitar doesn't compliment the mandolin so well but the violin does. Would you say playing, say, a bass guitar would aid? Sorry if I sound cynical, I'm not really, I'm just rather inquisitive and interested.

  • @jeneshisugakuto

i would not know what to answer. according to me the erhu is not SO difficult to learn. it's just a matter of time and to dedicate some 30 min a day for a month or two with method.

i think knowing how to play some instrument would help, but i cannot tell if playing a bass, a guitar, flute or piano will help! :)

  • you're really good for having just practiced for a few months. i was thinking of learning to play the erhu also. did you mostly self-teach yourself?

  • @wereblood808

yes, i learned totally by myself, after some video fomr youtube and georgegao.

i have an electric guitar background.

  • Hey could we talk some time? I just got an erhu for one of my courses at college, and I'm terrible at it =P Do you have skype or something?

  • where do you buy the erhu violin? i want to buy one too.

  • in china! :)

you can find them on internet, too

  • It sounds like a goose being slowly and beautifully strangled.

You are talented -- it's just the instrument sounds so sorrowful -- All the luck in the world is gone now I feel as though a swarm of Dementors are hovering over me.

  • Wow, you're good.

I'm a complete beginner. I hope to make it to your level at some point during my practice sessions

  • oh man, so good keep it up dude!! I just bought one of Ebay.. waiting for the guy to come in the mail!! u sound good as dude!!!!!!!!!

  • just wonderful! :-) i have a Erhu myself ..wanna play it..could U give me some tips,,..for the notes, where to find something for free? and so on.. I would be thankful...

  • Please see my video: leidy meng jiangfor cello!!

This is my reponse for you.

  • good work ^__^

  • nice performance, i like it

  • That was beutifull iam impressed, i bought an erhu myself mainly for decoration on my wall since i love chinese culture, but perhaps i should give it a try to learn. Bravo, it touched me since there were soul in your playing.

  • sounds great especially for self taught.I too am trying to learn this piece on my own. no erhu teachers where I am either. I'll have a teacher in the future. I would be happy to be half as good as you. keep it up. very nice fingering

  • That was nice. *_*

  • seem like ur erhu pitch is higher than normal one.....is tat "jing erhu"? using in beijing opera?

keep going for d good...u can b better....try learn chinese else well...as there r lotz of website providing erhu e-lesson, but all in Chinese....

  • my erhu should be a "normal" one. it's tuned in D and A

  • i just bought an erhu but i dont know how to tune it. what did you use or how did you tune it?

  • just use a standard guitar tuner or a refrence note from the PC.

the normal tuning is D (lowest) and A (highest)

  • @trixtttt yeap. D is for the inner string, A is for the outer string.

  • hahaha..awesome,i wish to see more coming from you^___^

  • thts beautiful!

  • nice.. thanks

  • Damn , nice where can I find a free version of the score ?

  • I like to point out that the right hand holding the bow method is wrong. It may affect further improvement, please check with a better teacher

  • thanks for the suggestion.

actually, i never had a teacher, and i would not know where to find it!

  • I have never played one, but I'm pretty sure this is pretty amazing after only a few months. Solid intonation, and romantic playing. The tone lacks some of the depth I'm used to hearing, but that could be an equipment problem, I don't know. Great job, anyway!

  • Wow! I think you're doing a great job! I just got my erhu in today and after trying to just get a sound of it, it makes you appreciate folks who have all ready been playing a while. I'm not a novice, I teach music but not anything like this. My biggest problem is an awful scratchy sound from the bow. I think I don't have enough rosin on the bow! Help!

  • just wondering in what key the eh ru should be tuned???? thanks

  • with a standard tuning, the two strings are D (low) and A (high)

  • the most common is the lower string is D and the upper string is A, the same as the middle 2 strings on a violin.

  • Awesome thanks for that, I'm thinking about getting an 二胡 myself. I've never been a musician though, so I don't know how hard I'll find it.

  • wow, it sounds pretty good for a beginner!

    and it's encouraging, too! :)

I got an erhu some days ago after weeks of impatient waiting, but until now, it doesn't sound erhu-like at all but like a screaming pig... -.-°

I hope you keep up your good work! :)

  • keep it up! i am trying to learn too. you are a motivation.

  • You played that beautifully!

  • for a beginner you're pretty good

    keep going =)

  • keep it up ! you are doing great!!you encourage me too.

  • wow dude, your pretty good for someone who just practices by themself. I guess that's how most musicians become so good, they don't follow orthodox methods, and just play by themselves till they get their desired sound.

Search ' Yuan ' on youtube and click on the first link, you should try play that.

  • AS a beginner myself, I would love to play this well. Having spent the last year in China, I know my teacher would love to have a student like you. It encourages me to keep going.

  • thanks! :-)

  • theres nothing wrong with his playing, its just the erhu and the camera's sound abilities

  • can you help me, i have an erhu and i have set it up accordingly, it's just that i can not make any sounds with it! i have put the bridge in place and everything but i still do not know what i am missing.

  • did you rub rosin on your bow? without rosin/song xiang, there won't be any sound ^^"

  • yes, i have tried, still nothing.. unless there is a certain amount in which you have to put on.. :( also i think the bow is too loose, i'm not sure.

  • ok rosen your bow to when if you slide your finger tip on the bow it leaves a little powder on your finger thats when you know your bow is rosend.

  • wat's rosen/song xiang and where could u get it?

  • song xiang, the chinese version is black but when u rub it on you bow, it leaves white powder behind. Rosin is the english version used for violins etc. but we can use it for erhu too, it's the same but is not as brittle as the chinese version and it's kinda waxy like, i've seen it in red and yellow so far. As for where you can find it...um internet? google it =)

  • ok cool thx buddyface

  • Great job!

  • very good for the beginner.

  • Great job! What is the song called?

  • lady meng jiang

  • Thanks for uploading. You're good in erhu.

  • nice working man, keep going!

  • WELL: This brings back fond memories of my studies in China when i was 35yrs old (1996) I tried to play the erhu at a dinner theater...needless to say .. i only squealed

    :( What effort BRAVO!!

  • Nice effort my friend.... I have just purchased an Erhu and hope to be that good within a couple of months
