I think the question should be is what is it about gay marriage that deserves special protection under the law? There should be some overriding function that gay marriage serves in society to deserve protection. Traditional marriage is deeply rooted in history and I think it is protected because of baby making.

Gay marriage should be legal, the fact it isn't is disgusting. Why should you be denied rights just because of the way you were born.
On principle I believe polygamy should be legal, however I know to be careful because of the concerns you mentioned to do with coercive marriages, and abuse in the families. But on principle I think it should be legal.
I watched a video in Contemporary History about polygamy where a man had 3 wives, 2 were sisters and they were all cousins. I believe that gay marriage along with polygamy should be made legal. It affects nobody but themselves.

The thing with religion is that you believe that you are right. . If you are religious and your religion says that all people who wear red are inferior and all people who wear orange are awesome, you will try to get that to be a law because you think it's how the world should be. For me, the reason why some people are not okay with Gay Marriage or, to be more specific, Homosexuality in general, is because it's is "out of the norm" for these people. This is the same for other things in live. And honestly I say to let them live their lives without having a dirty look thrown at them if two guys hold hands while having a nice Sunday afternoon stroll. The thing with religion is that you believe that you are right. . If you are religious and your religion says that all people who wear red are inferior and all people who wear orange are awesome, you will try to get that to be a law because you think it's how the world should be. It's the same thing with polygamy and gay marriage. A religion that doesn't allow gay marriage but allows polygamy is not being hypocritical in the eyes of it's believers, it's being right.

I got no problem with polyamory or any other alternative marriage, but these religious cults are misogynist. @cantstoptheseeker it goes both ways. I live in a pretty liberal city, with about a fourth of my friends being gay, lesbian, and/or polyamorus. Now I myself am not poly or gay, but I have no problems with it. Thing is, most of the polyamorus people I know are women, with multiple boyfriends, and guys with multiple girlfriends. Infact id say I know more women with multiple boyfriends. But heres the thing... those boyfriends or girlfriends also have other boyfriends and girlfriends.

i got to disagree with you woody....yeah sure polygamy doesn't hurt anyone but gay marriage if you think about it a little bit more you would find tons of things that hurt people...and taking care of child seriously? gay people are very dangerous around kids, what will the kid turn out to be like, and if you think about it, all gay men are very explicit when they are around people they know, how would it be like if they were around kids..

For me, the reason why some people are not okay with Gay Marriage or, to be more specific, Homosexuality in general, is because it's is "out of the norm" for these people. This is the same for other things in live. And honestly I say to let them live their lives without having a dirty look thrown at them if two guys hold hands while having a nice Sunday afternoon stroll. The other reason why is because they are scared that they would get into this kind of relationship. Maybe problems with pride.
