So you have 2 choices either become a puppet state of America or an equal partner in the EU. And the leading EU party (EPP), is a conservative party and not socialist one.

@Teranex The USA at one time had 50 States. Now it is 1 big State. It all started with the Federal Gov'ts main purpose to protect the several states as described in the US Constitution.With the slow destruction of that important document. The Feds have generated a very powerful centralised entity.The States fight each to get $ back the Feds took from the citizens of the states thereof. From what I can see.The EU's ultimate goal is to become a one nation state. That is just my educated opinion.

Easier to control a few than many.I live in the USA.The Fed gov can't stand having to deal w/ 50 StatesNor does the States like dealing with the Feds. We have a saying here. I urged my State Legislature 3 yrs ago to start a dialogue with other State legislatures regarding trying to put the Federal Gov back into its place. If that doesn't work.For those States to secede.You should have seen the look on my State Rep's face.I think his jaw hit the ground. At about the same time. Shortly thereafter. Thanks to European Cooperation on this level we now have projects like the Airbus A380/The Large Hadron Collider/ITER Fusion Reactor/Galileo Navigation/European Space Agency/The Euro ; meaning easy travel and a MUCH more stable economy. This means it is determined by how well the average member state is doing economically.
