this guy did what he wanted. he wanted to move to japan and he did it. gotta respect that. i made a video when i visited tokyo and so many people wrote "i wish i could move there" or "one day". rodger said f it and made it there. he did what others wouldn't, couldn't, or shied away from. i have lots of respect for this guy. RIP rodger.
I like how he's being so careful in this video and I can't help but sit here and shake my head slowly, cos he's so worried about the snow but in the end died from something completely different.
It breaks my heart at the end when he said "See you next time". Rodgerswan was one of the only J-Vloggers that every video was positive and made me want to go to Japan. Rodger did more in one year the I have done in my entire life. I don't even know him yet that makes me feel survivors guilt. R.I.P. Rodger. You will be missed.

@KonamiEnix Awesome! So looking forward to it. I'm available to edit if they're still looking. I'd done a tribute video a day after he passed. Hope his folks got to see it.
its weird thinking that he died after this video. its like seeing somebody preserved.... anyone else wonder what he couldve been thinking about without knowing that soon he would pass away? idk.. its just like, he would've never known; what he had planned, or what he was going to do.... was it a big deal compared to death?..
Very sad. I am off to Iwate in January to teach. I found Rodger's videos today and half-way through watching them I found out that he had died. I was shocked. At least he was immortalised in this little corner of cyberspace. It stands as a fitting tribute to him. Good on you Rodger... thanks man.
Did anyone notice that at the end of this last video, while he was saying goodbye, the entry door chime ringed 4 times? In Japan, the number 4 is related to death because the number "4" and "death" are pronounced the same. Kind of weird and strange huh? RIP Rodger :'(
@Juanky175 Wow dude thats pretty creepy its like a "times up" type thing wow. Sad to knowthat this video was posted a few days before his death...R.I.P
It's so weird to think that it's almost been a year since Rodger left us. So much has happened since then too. I miss reading the comments that he would make on some of my videos. RIP big guy, and as always, we'll see ya next time!

I've been watching this guy since the early Tokyo Swan days. It's sort of weird but after watching videos like these so long you develop a kind of strange friendship with these people... After he died, watching these made me so depressed. I never assumed I'd actually grieve for a guy on Youtube. Now, though, re-watching them makes me happier than they ever did before. I think we can all learn from his kind attitude. RIP
@rainbottes I know the feeling.I haven't watched any of his videos since March and today I find myself going back through them and smiling. He was a real cool dude and I always looked forward to the next video.RIP Rodger
I always knew and loved the big j horror films like ju-on, grudge etc. but this guy opened my eyes to a new world of asian horror films and I still watch his old reviews. because of him i have seen tens of j horror movies, and some of them have become my all time favourites. it is ironic I just came back from the video store with ju-on and dark water when I found out. In heaven now im sure he is toasting to his success and all his fans, with a glass of sherry, or in his case probably sake
It makes me sad to think you said "I'll see you next time...". Because you didn't. I've only met your channel today. You were only 23. You had your whole life ahead of you. I admittedly don't know much about you, but already we've been robbed of an exciting man with many fans and people you've never met.
@shironbo7441 Even tho JET may die (tho I doubt it will, it may be downsized greatly, but it's a very important foreign-relations tool... A lot of them already are more popular and do more than JET did/had done.
Oh wooow!, I had no clue until now, I kept waiting for new videos and they just weren't coming so I checked this video and was shocked to say the least. I can't believe it is true. i've seen the same cause of death for another english teacher in korea.... acute pancreatitis complications. his case was mostly due to excessive drinking. i don't think most people really send the right message to the young people going to foreign lands to teach english...
I keep finding myself back on this page, never tiring of Rodger's videos. I hope his channel lasts forever -- less as a guide to Japan (though it's amazing for that purpose) than as a model for how we should treat our fellow man and earnestly pursue our own passions.
Wow, I just was going though my favourites and decided to catch up with the latest Iwate Swan episodes...and I find out this terrible news. This is such a terrible loss to the world. Rest in peace, Rodger.
I heard that the official cause of his death was internal bleeding in the abdominal cavity caused by acute pancreatitis. He died on January 26, 2010 in Hanamaki, Japan at the age of twenty three.
Rodger! I can't wait to see you up there! I have to tell you, you did it. You did inspire me! Your videos did give something back the viewers!! That's why I will live my life! I only got one chance here on Earth! So Rodger, I will never forget you and thank you for what you did! Looks like I'll be seeing you next time soon, my friend! God bless you and your family!!!
@sephious159 Rodger died on jan 27th (jan26th in the states) in Hanamaki Japan of internal bleeding into the abdominal cavity caused by acute pancreatitis.
I just went through you're first video and I jumped to here,. You know what, you changed a lot!! :D :D
I went to Iwate last februari for Geibikei Gorge river and it was a really nice place, check my channel to see the video. Btw, have you ever been to Sendai? It's pretty nice place too :)
The opening theme is enough to make me really sad. I miss his kind voice, and his videos. Btw almost 100K views, Roger would be happy to see that. :'(
I heard from another video that he passed away from acute pancreatitis. Very sad. Friend of mine recommended him and he was the main inspiration for my future trip to japan. It's very sad that such a good person had to pass so soon. RIP You are still an inspiration to all of us.
I have watched and been inspired by many of your videos and was horribly shocked to find out about your passing... You went much too soon.. You seemed like a great guy and I sat there not knowing what to do or think when I read the news on your channel, and now I can't stop crying, and I didn't even know you. You were great and I hope you R.I.P. Roger. <3 :,(
Honestly..you have inspired me to not waste my time and just sit around because you never know how much time you really have. Nice to see you really used your time well and always with happiness in your heart and a smile on your face. Seriously...I miss you and I didn't even get to know you in life...but I just love your positive attitude and your personality..people will miss you man..you did an impact on people's lives. I bet you're still around Japan having loads of fun as usual..RIP man
I never knew this guy and only just stumbled across his channel, but I'm surprised by the sheer number of posts and videos on the internet about him passing away. I'm going to Tokyo in August for the first time...so I'll be subscribing and watching all his vids. :3
Iwate Swan. It's horrible to face the tragedy of losing people who dedicated in peace and gladness to their passion. Although I didn't know you, I can say the world is gloomier and poorer without you to spread your humanity in it.
Again, I didn't met you personally, but I can recognize a good man. I can recognize humanity, happiness. To see smiles of young men like yours at 1:25 while talking about the mundane and see them go will make feel empty every morning and motivate me to be a better me.
RIP I just found out minutes ago and I am very shocked all of the other j vloggers arent worth watching but yours were the best along with cooney's videos Its hard not being able to say goodbye.
SIEG HEIL SIEG HEIL EIN FOLK EIN REICH EIN FUHRER SIEG HEIL mein fuhrer! Sorry if anyone was offended but it is nothing racist intended - it it's an inside joke between friends - one last inside joke in this life. Plese don't judge without knowing the context, just trust that Rodger didn't have a single judgemental bone in his body and that no matter what he did he had very good intentions and would never do anything against his very kind heart. RIP my old friend, I'll see you in the next life.
Can anyone tell me what happened to Rodger? Judging that he (?) posted the vid on the 25th and he died on the 26th, it must have been an accident, wasn't it?
If my dream career of filmmaking ever picks up and I make it big, then i will donate as much as needed and even more to any education fund or horror review thing (doubt the last one will happen, would be nice...) that is in his name, because this guy lived the dream that I wanted to live myself, living in japan, being known for his work and personality, and being loved by many people, I'm 1/3 of the way there, and all i need is college, this man inspired me, and will be missed.
Jeez, I only found out that he died just a few minutes ago because I noticed that he hadn't uploaded a video in a while and decided to check his channel. Man that's crazy... here I was wondering what was taking so long and the guy was dead. Man... What a bummer, I've been following his channel for a long time. His videos always cheered me up when I was feeling blue with their beautiful picture of Japan and Japanese culture which has fascinated me since childhood. Very sad.
I never watched his videos but I come back now and again to pay my respects to this kind and bright young man that had to leave us so early. Let's remember the lesson Rodger teaches us: life is short but never too short to chase our wildest dreams.
Everytime I see your face it's like someone punched me in the gut. Rest in peace brother.
Such a peaceful way to end one of the best vlogs on Youtube. Too bad it had to end. Consider this a salute to a fellow Japanophile and horror aficionado. Rodger Swan, you will be missed. RIP, bro
this is bullshit!! i can't believe he is gone. It doesn't make any sense. He was so younge. I thought for sure he was changing the way people vlogged about life in Japan. He was so detailed in his videos. I'm sad and angry he has passed away. Sad he is gone and angry that the world will not get to see the quality of videos this great person made. It's not fair that Rodger had to be taken from us.
Rodger I may not have followed your videos from the beginning but I am truly thankful that you made them. They are an inspiration. I am happy to know that you lived your dream and had an amazing life. Your life touched many people and changed many lives for the better. I look forward to seeing you in heaven and watching your new videos.
Rest in peace my friend and I will see you soon =)
He is so happy and full of energy even on a day that's like any other. I wish I could grow to be more like him. I am so grateful he shared his life with us. Miss you <3
R.I.P. My friend....This is such Shocking news to me. Your Videos have always kept me feeling happy. My most favorite was the Shenmue Episode....THis is so sad.
I never knew this guy existed and it seems so hard that he's gone. I want to watch all of his videos but it has such a sad feeling that he's not here anymore.
2 Years later and you're still an inspiration. RIP

On May 21,the screening process so-called 事業仕分け order a review of jet programme as part of administrative reform.
That means,Japan has decided to give up the jet programme already.
I watched this discussion at webcast.

now,Japan can't afford to feed unskilled-foreigner.
yes,we'll see the end of the jet programme in not-so-distant future.

Roger. <3 :,(

Very sad.

this is bullshit!! i can't believe he is gone.
