My MINT Supra, also stock, while very pretty to look at is slow. 15 flat consistent quarters. 65000 KILOMETRES that's what they run. They weigh 1660 Kilos and have 230 *B*hp or so, That's like 180 at the wheels. Do the math. Supra's are superior because of what that 7M has after YOU let it out of it's cage. I love my Supra anyway.

i bought a n/a MKIII, it was slow. i planned on a 2JZ swap for it but it got stolen =(, however i do recommend people to get this car, it is cheap to buy and if you get that swap, no problem making it fast as hell. i bought mine for $100 too lol.
First, change the headgasket to a metal hg w/ arp studs, cause the stock hg WILL blow, its not a matter of if, its a matter of when. Also, for mods, you could get a full 3in exhaust (turboback), a lex afm, 550cc injectors, and a 255lph fuel pump and you'd be runnin close to vettes (not the c6z06 though). All the mods will cost roughy 1500-2000.

For example, if you drive your car with powerful fast starts and incredible 0 to 60 time, and do a lot of racing with it, the car will adapt to that and will actually get better and better. If you never use a car to race at all, it will not perform good at a race. it has not been "broken in"
I have a mk 3 supra, and I used to have an 87 toyota van. This van I had pushed to its absolute limits to see what It could do. I made floor-down from stop light starts, and after a while it got better and better. Later on, the van's wheels spun and did not
grab in with traction and you could see smoke on fast starts. That van was able to go very fast and barrel down the road even though it was a van. Now I am applying that principle to my supra, and , well its a supra and it does the same only better
it is incredible that the bugatti veyron is a luxury car and also has unbelievable performance , apparently its one of the highest performance cars ever made.
take note that many cars today, like the cobalt ,being an american car, use a lot of japanese and foreign made parts, so these days, sadly, the line is kind of blurred, you may not like to hear that, but its actually true.
like said below there are many factors to a cars speed, and power, really too many to list, but the most important one is a) is it built for speed and b) has it been run and "broken in" with speed in mind. Those 2 combined , assuming you have a reliable model,( not a lemon year or model, with troubles and problems, ) will give you an extremely powerful machine
a car does not adapt to your driving. its not "intelligent" unless it has some new technology that can read yoru driving styles and preferences. but it wont make yoru car more powerful.
maybe you mean breaking your engine in. a brand new cara wont run at full potential for the first 1000 miels or so, but whether your racing it or not has nothign to do with it.

The other issue that people forget is Japan has a semi-legal/voluntary limit of 280PS (with leeway of +10% for actual vs rated PS) on all stock vehicles. Now why would Toyota build the living crap out of the bottom end of a 2JZ motor that only has to make 280 PS? Without the 280 PS limit we would be seeing 500+ hp stock cars from Japan too.

The second part of my original comment is that the Japanese manufacturers are working to much stricter regulations on what they can do on their production cars. If they didn't have the PS limit and crazy insurance rates on cars over 3.0L, they would more likely be producing MUCH more powerful cars stock (through bigger motors most likely). However much more powerful than their current limits would be probably on par with the stock Vettes and Vipers. 400-500 range.
I am an import guy (Mk3 Supra Turbo) however I know that a properly done domestic will destroy a properly done import, be it Japanese, German or even Italian. I've been to the drag strip, that's really all it takes to understand. When you see domestics running 1/4 ETs that look like an import's 0-60mph then it puts things in perspective.

GM sucks. Trim pieces were falling off before we even got my wife's new Suburban home from the dealer. Fuel pump died & stranded her not long after. I could go on, but it won't stop the guys who think performance erases the issues these poorly built vehicles suffer from.

However most evert beretta I find is run down and on its second motor, probably because the owner wrung their neck, but still. All of those cars were getting killed by the supra of the time, and the 300zx when it first came out it was better then the vette.

Quad4 sucked and they had to detune it to 150hp so it wouldn't break anymore. Stopped calling it the Quad4 because it had a shitty reputation. McLaren was contracted for the turbo. (not US company) and the motor disappeared quietly. Again the DOHC V6 in the later Grand Prix quietly disappeared and nobody seemed to complain. Then they went to a pushrod SC V6. 3 TOTALLY DIFFERENT ENGINES from 89 to 95? Now why would GM do that? Maybe because they don't have a freakin' clue?
they didnt detune the quad 4, they changed the rating system which included less power. It is still an identical engine. The dohc v6 wasnt selling, thats why it was dropped. it was expensive to make. Im sure GM has a clue, theve sold more cars than anyone to date.
Sorry bud. They changed the Quad4 form 2.3L to 2.4L and dropped it from 180hp to 150hp. That isn't a different rating system. As for the Twin Dual Cam V-6, it had problems, and the cost of a DOHC V-6 hasn't stopped every other manufacturer from using it. And Chevy hasn't produced a #1 car in sales in years, it has been Ford (thanks to cheap fleet discounts), Toyota and Honda that have been fighting it out. They even admit their quality was poor in some of their recent magazine ads.

But GM sells the MOST cars. and in 96 they just changed the power rating to include all belt driven accesories and the factory exhaust, so the engine didnt lose 30 hp, it was just rated differently. Stock Supras have 320 bhp. The 2JZ-GTE can run about 800 hp safely with bone stock internals. I can't say the same thing for American Muscle cars, seeing as many do not have the original drivetrain, and are prone to break within 10k miles.
and who the fuck cares if a toyota supra stock has 300 with 2 turbos the engine can withstand 1000hp to the wheels, not to mention its one of the fasted dragsters in the 1/4 mile look up the titan supra not to mention supras can smoke ferarris, mustangs, its all sad that american muscle isnt as good as it once was

1) My 1990 Toyota Celica GT-S (130HP) has around 275,000 miles on it and it still keeps up with my friend's 2005 Cobalt LS (160HP).
2) The V6 seen in the MK-IV Supra is one of the most balanced/durable engines to date. People have boosted it to 3x's stock capacity and it still doesn't have any problems.

i bought a n/a MKIII, it was slow. i planned on a 2JZ swap for it but it got stolen =(, however i do recommend people to get this car, it is cheap to buy and if you get that swap, no problem making it fast as hell. i bought mine for $100 too lol.

Rough summary?
First, change the headgasket to a metal hg w/ arp studs, cause the stock hg WILL blow, its not a matter of if, its a matter of when. Also, for mods, you could get a full 3in exhaust (turboback), a lex afm, 550cc injectors, and a 255lph fuel pump and you'd be runnin close to vettes (not the c6z06 though). All the mods will cost roughy 1500-2000.

For example, if you drive your car with powerful fast starts and incredible 0 to 60 time, and do a lot of racing with it, the car will adapt to that and will actually get better and better. If you never use a car to race at all, it will not perform good at a race. it has not been "broken in"

like said below there are many factors to a cars speed, and power, really too many to list, but the most important one is a) is it built for speed and b) has it been run and "broken in" with speed in mind. Those 2 combined , assuming you have a reliable model,( not a lemon year or model, with troubles and problems, ) will give you an extremely powerful machine

a car does not adapt to your driving. its not "intelligent" unless it has some new technology that can read yoru driving styles and preferences. but it wont make yoru car more powerful.
maybe you mean breaking your engine in. a brand new cara wont run at full potential for the first 1000 miels or so, but whether your racing it or not has nothign to do with it.

Lingenfelter=stock LFAO. I know the Lingenfelter owns ALL tuner cars from ANY country but calling it stock is absurd.
The other issue that people forget is Japan has a semi-legal/voluntary limit of 280PS (with leeway of +10% for actual vs rated PS) on all stock vehicles. Now why would Toyota build the living crap out of the bottom end of a 2JZ motor that only has to make 280 PS? Without the 280 PS limit we would be seeing 500+ hp stock cars from Japan too.

Big difference. GM doesn't build the Lingenfelter 'Vettes, Sonomas or Escalades. They may support the tuner, but Lingenfelter's company does the mods.

The second part of my original comment is that the Japanese manufacturers are working to much stricter regulations on what they can do on their production cars. If they didn't have the PS limit and crazy insurance rates on cars over 3.0L, they would more likely be producing MUCH more powerful cars stock (through bigger motors most likely). However much more powerful than their current limits would be probably on par with the stock Vettes and Vipers. 400-500 range.

I am an import guy (Mk3 Supra Turbo) however I know that a properly done domestic will destroy a properly done import, be it Japanese, German or even Italian. I've been to the drag strip, that's really all it takes to understand. When you see domestics running 1/4 ETs that look like an import's 0-60mph then it puts things in perspective.

Omg, them caps sure make you sound SMART! Year has plenty to do with it, it's called New Technology Configuration (NTC). Wish all you want, don't expect to get a Boss 351 (or a 2000GT) rivaling a Veyron's accel/top speed. Too many factors come into play (weight-hp, aero, susp, etc.) Yes there are ricetards and there always will be, half of them think an alternator is a turbo! I would have accepted a C5/6 as an ex. That would have been an = price-power compare.

Yes, there's are ways to make a car faster (weight reduc, SC, TC), but again, if your old tech/new tech idea was true, you can bet there would be someone breaking the land speed record with a Model T. While the basic blueprint behind an IC vehicle has been the same for a century, the tech standard (Aero, susp sys., Forced Induc, etc)has changed by the decade. Whatever happened to American tech? We were @ 3.8s 0-60s in '93! (RS200 EVO)

I am a diehard chevy fan but i do like some imports and have owned a MK3 supra before as it is probally one of my fav cars.... but some of you guys are stupid... even more so on the import side.... saying you can build a supra, 300zx, etc to whatever crazy amount of power and it can beat a Z06, or whatever....

I for one like the cobalt ss, the Neon srt is a better fwd if your going to race because of the turbo... but i dont think this is a fair race, the supra has 2 things in it favor, the turbo and rwd when the weight shifts it has nothing but grip, and the turbo is easyer to get more power out of right away.

your the dum shit look at any car with a 6 cylinder, choose one. most of them are over 200hp. or close to 200. all 4 cylinder cars are 140-170 without a supercharge or a turbo. and the civic is by no means better than the cobalt. having been in the market for a long time doesnt make it better. the cobalt is a brand new car the gm has made with all their new nechnology. motor trend choose the cobalt over the civic and the srt, only car that is better than the cobalt is acura rsx type s

However most evert beretta I find is run down and on its second motor, probably because the owner wrung their neck, but still. All of those cars were getting killed by the supra of the time, and the 300zx when it first came out it was better then the vette.

Quad4 sucked and they had to detune it to 150hp so it wouldn't break anymore. Stopped calling it the Quad4 because it had a shitty reputation. McLaren was contracted for the turbo. (not US company) and the motor disappeared quietly. Again the DOHC V6 in the later Grand Prix quietly disappeared and nobody seemed to complain. Then they went to a pushrod SC V6. 3 TOTALLY DIFFERENT ENGINES from 89 to 95? Now why would GM do that? Maybe because they don't have a freakin' clue?

they didnt detune the quad 4, they changed the rating system which included less power. It is still an identical engine. The dohc v6 wasnt selling, thats why it was dropped. it was expensive to make. Im sure GM has a clue, theve sold more cars than anyone to date.

Sorry bud. They changed the Quad4 form 2.3L to 2.4L and dropped it from 180hp to 150hp. That isn't a different rating system. As for the Twin Dual Cam V-6, it had problems, and the cost of a DOHC V-6 hasn't stopped every other manufacturer from using it. And Chevy hasn't produced a #1 car in sales in years, it has been Ford (thanks to cheap fleet discounts), Toyota and Honda that have been fighting it out. They even admit their quality was poor in some of their recent magazine ads.

even if they havent had a number one selling car, there number one in sales volume. Toyota is number one in sales profit margin. But GM sells the MOST cars. and in 96 they just changed the power rating to include all belt driven accesories and the factory exhaust, so the engine didnt lose 30 hp, it was just rated differently. Read it on wikipedia.

You believe everything you read on Wikipedia? SAE net bhp reading have always included accesory drive and exhaust. You are thinking of way back in the gross hp days of the '60s. If they weren't rating that way in '95 that would have been fraud. The 2.3l Quad Four became the 2.4l that powered the Cavalier Z24 and Sunfire GT. GM's sales numbers are padded with fleet contracts and trucks. I would like to see a break down of personal vehicle sales and fleet sales of all manufacturers.

Both had filters at the time....I was pushing 2 more Psi then stock boost in my supra...fastest time I ran in it was a 14.63, and that was with HKS dp and 3" cutout....

Dude, MK3 Supras are faster than just about any car thats all stock. I know, I own one. That kid prolly had a 7m, couldnt tell if it was turbo or not. Drop a 2j in there with a big ass single turbo and it will pump out more than 600 HP.
And as for the MK4 Supras, well, theyre just a gift from heaven.

Stock Supras have 320 bhp. The 2JZ-GTE can run about 800 hp safely with bone stock internals. I can't say the same thing for American Muscle cars, seeing as many do not have the original drivetrain, and are prone to break within 10k miles.

and who the fuck cares if a toyota supra stock has 300 with 2 turbos the engine can withstand 1000hp to the wheels, not to mention its one of the fasted dragsters in the 1/4 mile look up the titan supra not to mention supras can smoke ferarris, mustangs, its all sad that american muscle isnt as good as it once was

its more fun to build a car to a certain power range as opposed to just buying one where you dont have to do nothing, its just boring a true tuner looks for a challenge not the easy way out

JDMmachine stfu. if you think its cool to bust your ass and blow all your money just to get a little jap engine up to american muscle standards your an idiot. and displacement does matter. in racing, jap cars make their engines BIGGER. you wanna talk mods? buy a new cam and headers in a stock Z06 and it will have somewhere around 600 horses. stock vettes hang around 500hp. stock supras hang around 300 with TWIN turbos. i'd rather buy a fast stock car than waste all my time voiding my warranty.

1) My 1990 Toyota Celica GT-S (130HP) has around 275,000 miles on it and it still keeps up with my friend's 2005 Cobalt LS (160HP).
2) The V6 seen in the MK-IV Supra is one of the most balanced/durable engines to date. People have boosted it to 3x's stock capacity and it still doesn't have any problems.
3) Whoever pointed out Ferrari as an American car needs to retake AutoHeritage 101 xD
