Yes. Chiang Mai is Lan Na. Isaan and Chiang Mai are name of the region. However, historically and culturally, people are Lao and other minority tribes. I was in north of Bangkok, Chonburi many years ago and met with few villagers. It is part of lost Lao. Siamese captured and brought them from Vientiane to Chonburi. I felt like I was walking into any village in Vientiane. It was amazing to fitness a striving culture after century of Siamese culture domination.
