Read "The Kennedy Women" by Laurence Leamer. Kathleen's parents, especially her mother, all but disowned her when she married Cavendish. Neither of them attended the wedding. Rose Kennedy even tried to have Kathleen's trust fund revoked. When Kathleen died in the plane crash, the Kennedys refused to bring her back to the US for burial. Only Joe Kennedy attended the funeral. It is strange that the Kennedys chose a college that Kathleen had never attended to build a gym in her memory.

@cjh661 , I read that when Kathleen found out what would happened to a person after the operation that Joe wanted done on Rosemary, she begged him not to go through with it. He did anyway and Rosemary became the "retarded" child whom the family hid away so they wouldn't be embarassed. After Kathleen was gone, only Eunice stood by Rosemary and had the guts to air the dirty laundry of what happened to poor Rosemary.

Thanks for posting this - I just finished Lynne McTaggart's biography, "Kathleen Kennedy, Her Life and Times" and think Kick was one of the spunkiest members of the family. Often, like Joe, Jr. and Rosemary, she gets neglected. It's nice to see there are people that remember them, too.

In a PBS documentary called The Kennedys, a friend of Jack's said he was w/ Jack when he got the news of Kathleen's death. Jack put on a record by an Irish singer (whose name I can't remember), stared out the window for a long time, and cried.
