Can't even practice the first ammendment in your own country! I think this is what Malachi was protesting in the first place! A shame the cops had to do that.
I will be there, the moment this pointless war ends, I will be there erecting a statue of one of the greatest Americans to ever live. He did not give his life for American freedom, but for world freedom.
I've never been compelled to comment on a YouTube page, feeling it pointless.
A tragic mar on American history, on world history. For a man to take his life is not sadness, but empowerment. To take one's own life in protest is the ultimate empowerment, not just to himself but to those who witness.
The tragedy isn't his suicide, it's the closed eyes of the media. Should a celebrity get arrested, the world listens. A man dies in the most gruesome of manners to protest a corrupt, pointless war, and no one seems to care.
Brave action, but maybe, just maybe, a banner condemning the war itself could have been deployed as well. Ya know? For the thousands who passed and didn't know who Malachi was? How much "awareness" was raised without signage connecting Malachi with opposition to the war?
True, but I wonder what people would think when they see this message. Either they are familiar with the story and know what it's about, or they aren't and are forced to wonder and think and ask about it or perhaps google it. It could be argued that this is more effective than just another "war is bad" sign, of which there are thousands around chicago on this day, and which many may become desensitized to even if they support it.
