@eric5906 -Who the f asked you ass wipe. I couldn't care less whether he is whatever. It was simply a statement of fact that required no comment from you.It was simply a clarification as to who was being referred to.for busy bodied lame brains such as you.
@eric5906 -Mind your business and mouth you moronic bigot. The world needs far fewer of your kind. Your advice is unsolicited and your insults not unexpected. If anyone has shown themselves to be despicable it certainly is you and not me.For my part you can now write to those who wish to hear from you. That would save you lots of paper. There is a new kind of aids going around called hearing aids.It comes from listening to assholes. lol
@paulostroff99 I think you have things confused. Wagner is a genius, and it's you that the despicable mediocrity. Wagner's sentiments about the Jews doesn't change that.
I'm sorry, the finale of Meistersinger is "a bit too precise" for an immediate association to Furtwängler. See the wonderful film "Taking Sides" to get this comment. The seemingly endless project of apportioning blame to Furtwängler goes on ad infinitum. This is truly sad because F. was completely exonerated in post-war de-nazification hearings and "von" Karajan, who was a card-carrying member of the party during the war, never had any subsequent problems.
Please, change the title! I have the Furtwangler's recoding and the Abendroth's recording: This is Furtwangler, Furtwangler, Furtwangler, Furtwangler,!!!!!!!!

I am sure what I will make after WWII with the WHOLE family Wagner: kick them from the Festpielleitung! (Festivals leadership). Wagner did not intend the Bayreuther Fespiele as a family matter. I am just coming from New York cause I must to go in exile to see a Wagner in the way Richard Wagner create it and not like Wieland and Wolfgang with his idiot Regisseurtheather done in Bayreuth!
dont you want documentary footage of this nazi wagnerian frenzy? if you dont learn the lesson of history you will have to learn it the hard way. thank God for this
Still the only Herman Abendroth on youtube (if it's really him...) If there is any interest, I can put a lp of him on youtube....-----------------------------

He's gone now. Hitler has to be dead by now and he took Frankfurterwrangler or Furtwangler with him... Wagner was a short, embittered little man with a six foot wife who wrote LOUD noises for specially augmented musical ensembles... Some of it was rather good music. That doesn't negate that he was a louse as a human being and I question whether he WAS a HUMAN BEING and not an insect. A SMALL insect.
hitler liked certain parts of wagners music - but he was easily bored by the Ring and never got the faintest idea of what this opera ia sbout - the most nazilike creature Hagen is the baddie!

Sounds like it was an inspired performance. I wish there was a recording of the entire Ring from that period.
Wagner was extremely anti-Jewish even though his wife,Kosima's, mother( Her father was Franz Liszt) may have been descended from Shefardic Jews. I don't think Wagner had enough intellectual discernment to know what anti-Judaism really meant. He just wrote LOUD music based on other people's librettos.
I'm sorry... other people's librettos? I suggest you do not comment on what you are clearly not acquainted with. The GENIUS Wagner wrote his own librettos, for EVERY LAST ONE of his BRILLIANT OPERAS. Btw, you think he didn't have "enough intellectual discernment" ? R. Strauss, Nietzsche, Baudelaire, Mallarme, Verlaine, Proust, Mann, Liszt, Puccini, Auden, Eliot, Shaw, Joyce, Bruckner, Wolf, Mahler (himself a Jew) and a BILLION OTHER GREAT MINDS would tend to disagree.
Precisely. Anyone who is slightly acquainted with the Ring knows that the message is that everyone who seeks power ends up losing both it and everything he/she loves or cares for. Not exactly something a Nazi would say, is it?
Some time ago I joined the school choir in performing some song for a special occasion. We were talking about other kinds of music, and when I said I loved Wagner, one of the guys (a fine, schooled musician) said: "You listen to Hitler's music". No further comment needed.
well he wrote his own libretti all of them - and not all the music is/was loud! wagner hated meyerbeer and was violently antisemitic, but neverv propagated genocide.
It is Wagner that I'm referring to as a despicable person..

Wagner wrote the Theme Music of the Third Reich.
Israel would not allow his music to be performed there for years and if they have lifted the ban, they are still very ambivalent about it.
The finest versions of Wagner's music I have ever heard are by Otto Kemperer --a JEWISH conductor, and Herbert von Karajan.

Bravo.
Winifred Wagner, BTW was ENGLISH, so anyone feeling that Anti Semitism or Naziism was confinded to Germans alone is also mistaken.
I get sick of the stupid things said about Wagner just because the Nazis exploited his music.
Wagner was anti semitic, but his answer was to have Jews put loyalty to Germany above their religion, and perhaps convert if necessary.
He was an ardent pacifist and specifically spoke against violent acts toward Jews at the end of his life.
