People need to understand the roots of rock and rap music are the blues. Think of different types of music as branches from a tree. Tree branches don't have to compete with each other to be valid. I personally consider Janis a blues singer. She covered songs by jazz and blues greats on a regular. Know the history of the music. It is very interesting.
It is so nice to hear and watch this video! You can hear Janis Joplin's lovely Texas Southern hospitality, concerned about everyone in the audience! Lovely!
She wasn't skinny, she wasn't pretty, she however, had a voice that could blow you away, without even trying. No female singer, today, could even come close to her. She was the best.
@nthqlndr Not skinny, not pretty? I admit she's a bit unconventional-looking at times, and maybe not up to insane standards of today's fashion mags, but I think she looked great! (In addition to her having a great voice!)
Just think, When you get to Heaven, You can talk anyone you want. You can buy them a drink at the local bar. But I figure God keeps Janis pretty close at hand. Would'nt you?
Ahhh whats beats me is why havent we any more people who would like to revolution like our parents and grandparents did? The media seems to take people and spit them out in whatever veiw that they please.Ahhhh man we cant let it go on, anybody with me friend me, im serious we need to make a revolution, nationwide, we need to let the spirit burn just once more, let the passion run free. Freedom, peace, happiness, all this with just a bit of self control, a perfect world, like i said, friend me.
I DIE HARD WANT TO LIVE BACK THEN... What kind of music we can hear nowadays... It was a fairy tale there, pure clean music that led those lives... awesome...
Her music is great but i really dont get why people keep brining up rap like its bad music or something because its not. What does rap even have to do with this? Just enjoy the music.
@tiarra8282 because we can understand the words for one and two her songs and most songs back then were about PEACE LOVE AND HAPPINESS.....not the stuff they rap about
How right you are shorelineboy - a squawky drughead with a rough as gut disposal of a song - Kristofferson must have winced when he heard her sing his song. Regardless of all of this, drugs have crucified a lot of singers. I just wonder why so many stood in line to get their share. Graham Melb Aus
@ShenFennek so what it was the 60,s people experimented lots of us did. Being on drugs doesnt alter the fact that she was brilliant and exceptional. How can thie fact that Janis took drugs influence whether you like her or not. She was an exceptional talant still remembered and loved to this day by old and young.
@Chenet7 That's far too extreme. Janis and many others have said that drugs are part of the inspiration for their music. Obviously drug users should be responsible about their use, but to make a blanket statement about hating all drugs forever oversimplifies the issue. People will do drugs because it gives them satisfaction in a number of ways. Trying to prohibit that will only lead society to further punish those free adults who aren't hurting anyone and whose drug intake doesn't cause any harm
i wish i could go back in time to see woodstock and always have rad music around me, instead im 16 in the year 2010 were all the shitty music is being written
theres no talent even close to what she has today. today, instead of writing songs, the performer just writes a check and the person with talent hands them the song.
I can't stop the tears from rolling down my cheeks watching and listening to this incredible footage... Delete everything i said in the past about Janis, she really iS the best...
I love Classic Rock don't get me wrong. But the people here that say modern music sux, you're not hearing the right bands. Don't listen to the radio. There are a TON of sick modern bands like My Morning Jacket, The National, The Black Keys, Spoon, Arcade Fire, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, The Avett Bros, The Hold Steady, LCD Soundsystem, etc......I could go on and on......Check these bands out please before you trash our generation's sound.
