Ancient Rome did do some horrible things too but you do have to take into account that it was a very different time then during the Roman Empire. I found this show on the History Channel called Engineering an Empire and the first episode they had was on Rome, I found the whole series on youtube and in HD I will send you the link if you want to watch it.

Conquering a country doesn't gives you more soldiers, it improves your economy, but you need to leave soldiers there for fight resistances. Don't you think a Coalition of the NATO or U.N. forces would stop you even before you finish with Europe? Also, you can't just conquer people by destroying armies, you have to make the peoples of each country accept the new government or else there will be insurgents all over and you'll be forced to recruit more soldiers (which you would have to make them accept you as well), but if you have an excess number of soldiers you'll probably not have enough supplies, and so, you fail. :P

Don't you think a Coalition of the NATO or U.N. forces would stop you even before you finish with Europe? Also, you can't just conquer people by destroying armies, you have to make the peoples of each country accept the new government or else there will be insurgents all over and you'll be forced to recruit more soldiers (which you would have to make them accept you as well), but if you have an excess number of soldiers you'll probably not have enough supplies, and so, you fail. :P
