He was the president of the National Rifle Association...he's holding a rifle in this video and he talks about farmers and their rifles. If you want gun control, you have to tackle pistols in cities, not rifles in the country.

The publics ability to possess arms is essential to keep the government from tyranically oppressing the populace. It's also why there Japanese and the Soviets had no plans for a group invasion in America.

@willthedumbass There was a gun ban that ended in 2004. During the ban period there was no change in the # of murders each year. @MrThePwnisher Good. Feel comfident. You can sit behind you computerscreen, look at the number of killings, and then tell people that's worth the price, i don't care, it's not my damn country.
You're a fool if you really believe that your government has the right to arm itself and deny that right to the citizens who voted it's constituents into power.
@montereypopfestiva67 Thomas Jefferson, a world-famous advocate of liberty and equality among men, lived in a slave society; he owned plantations totaling thousands of acres and hundreds of slaves during his lifetime. He relied on slavery to support his family's lifestyle. Fidel Castro (who I hate) doesn't have any slaves. Your examples don't mean anything, sorry...
@Atticus70 Actually, men who fight for freedom, like Jefferson, the rest of the founding fathers, Gandhi, etc, know that a freely elected government can take freedoms away from individuals, and the "right to keep and bear arms" protects the citizens from governments becoming opressive. Jefferson owned slaves, Castro did not, so Jeffersons opinions do not matter?
@Atticus70 Thomas Jefferson lived most of his life in the 18th century and was ignorant of the fact that blacks were fully human. He needed educated. Jefferson is also an enigma in that he loved a black women whom he owned & fathered her children, dressed her in expensive clothes, took her on trips including France. A teacher in Britain sent him a letter with the writings of blacks to prove to him blacks were as intelligent as anyone. Jefferson admitted he was wrong after reading.
@bradshawbri Right, because if we ban guns, clearly criminals will abide by those laws, just like they do with drugs, right? We banned narcotics, and the drug trade and usage is gone, right? Criminals buy most of their guns illegally, and most guns used in crimes are illegally purchased. You take guns away from innocent civilans, and they have no protection from criminals with illegally purchased weapons.
The first amendment is there so that we the people can speak out against a tyranical government run a muck. The second amendment is there to protect the first. It's not so we can go hunting with our buddies. It's to protect liberty from those who would take our liberty to serve their own special interests. We have the right keep and bear arms. It don't get much more clearer than that. Thank you forefathers. So long as us patriots breath air, the free nation you created will be preserved.
When the Nazis came to exterminate the Jews they made sure that they passed laws prohibiting Jews from owning firearms in 1938. The last thing we should ever consider doing is limiting anyone's rights and liberty to protect themselves from anyone that would cause them harm including our own government.
@theonlyone246 I feel the sorry for the mutherfucker what tries to!!! Oh they'll get me eventually, Im not stupid...not before i blow dem m'ofuckin heads clean off their damn shoulders and piss down their windpipes!!!
That's right. When any real psychopath tries to overpower you with a gun or a knife, charge to them with your bare fists. Besides, the will is stronger than a bullet.
If I can't have a gun, and a gun can walk into my house? How does that seem logical? I will shoot you if you come in my house, my wife will shoot you if you come in my house. If you hurt my dogs, I will kill you!!!
Kind of like how they oppose abortions on the basis of preserving life, then lobby for the death sentence when the unwanted child becomes a criminal. Youre a bunch of psychopathic ego maniacs. Youre country was founded by a pack of religious kooks who all thought they were next messiah.
@TheRhinehart86 If youre opposed to our relaxed gun laws fine, but theres no need to make fun of our founding fathers. I own guns for hunting and recreational shooting. But I do feel the need for protecting myself so I keep a shotgun under my bed in case someone breaks into my home. Thats just my oppinion on the topic, I do respect yours though. But theres no need to go on further about our founding fathers, it makes you and everyone who shares your point of view look ignorant.
@Patriots293 I wasn't referring to the founding fathers per say, I was referring to all the pilgrims and puritans who came over with the early European settlement of North America from which America gets much of its religious problems from
Funny I live in a country with no guns and what do you know, I've never needed one to defend myself. Wake up and admit you only have them because you feel weak and impotent and you like the feeling of power they give you. I like how most people who defend guns are also conservative christians, I must have missed the part in the bible that says 'those who live by the sword die by the sword and turn the other, but an AR-15 kicks ass'
Yea yea. Countries with lowest crime/murder have stricter gun laws. Countries with lax gun laws...hmmm, higher crime/murder. No guns hurts the innocent? Don't think so. You can't fight statistics. You can't fight facts.
Keep your damn guns if you want, just stop trying to fool yourselves and others.
Philippines here. We have fucking restrictive gun laws, and yet we have journalists and political prisoners being killed left and right. By government officials who never bothered to follows their own damn laws.
The point stands still, in a country where guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. That's a fact. Much more in my country where the outlaws are also the politicians and they created a law limiting what kind of guns a law-abiding citizen could own.
@tharealkovo That's the point. In a corrupt country where the people are rendered ignorant by the media and the higher-ups are outright ignoring the rule of law, what is the use of gun control laws? You said this, as if it was a fact. Any evidence? I could provide evidence and statistics on the contrary to this. In picture forms.
You said people should stop fooling people. If you can't provide evidence to what you said, you might be as well as contradicting yourself about fooling people. Also, about facts. Evidence over argument, man.
No, just saying those unbacked statements isn't evidence. I could easily reverse the statements and call them evidence already.
Also, the pictures I will show contain statistics. For example, in 1968, United Kingdom passed laws that will limit the number of registered gun owners, which increased the number of homicides per 100,000 from 7.5 (pre-laws) to 13 (after passing of the laws). It almost doubled.
I could provide the evidence, sources and pictures by request.
@IvanTheMouse Saying that my statements are not true, without evidence, also doe snot disprove my statements...you have a null argument, so I suggest you get out of it.
Showing me images says nothing. I can make some nice images for you as well, showing you 0 crime rate if I wanted. Using the UK is a great example, because it is a nice way of showing how people like you use certain events, and correlate them with something that is not linked at all. I know the history of the UK.
"Saying that my statements are not true, without evidence, also doe snot disprove my statements...you have a null argument, so I suggest you get out of it."
You couldn't see the irony on the statement you just created. It is glaring.
"I can make some nice images for you as well, showing you 0 crime rate if I wanted"
Yes, but citing sources can't be forged, though. You could, but it is called intellectual dishonesty.
@IvanTheMouse Crime began to rise after the second world war, mostly amongst the younger population. There were many reasons why this happened, but the break up of family cohesion was a big source of it. The gun laws passed were partial meant to combat crime, which was already on the rise over a decade before the legislation.
Recently, the UK has experienced an unprecedented drop in crime overall. So your "pictures" say nothing of value in this debate.
Also, by saying "So your "pictures" say nothing of value in this debate." but stating earlier that "Saying that my statements are not true, without evidence, also doe snot disprove my statements.", you are contradicting yourself. You dismiss my arguments when I have sources, while considering yours valid when they are uncited.
By the way, my sources trace back to the British Home Office.
@IvanTheMouse Way to quote mine my argument. You'll have to work on your debating skills. Saying you have sources, and providing them are two different things. % comments after, and you still have not published any. Next, you are completely missing the point of my argument. Crime was rising way BEFORE your gun law argument. So you are drawing conclusions which are incorrect, simply because you want to ignore the socio-economics conditions of the country. As for the "irony"...
"Saying you have sources, and providing them are two different things." Yet, you said earlier. "So your "pictures" say nothing of value in this debate." Tell me, how am I going to provide my sources if you already dismissed them beforehand? I was thinking, that even if I provide my sources, you will just dismiss it simply because they are pictures, even if I said that the pictures have sources.
And you should provide sources that crime was rising before the laws.
Oh. So now you went from trying to be logical to discrediting your opponent by calling him a "troll" and "an idiot", simply because of the profile picture?
How logical and mild mannered of a pro-control, eh?
@IvanTheMouse ...I said that without evidence, it is a null argument. I stated historical facts. I am not your teacher or your mother, you can read up on the extensive history of the UK, if you wanted to. Don't take my word for it. As for recent crime rate sources, it has been plastered all over the UK news media. A quick google search will get you just some of the sources that back the argument.
"I said that without evidence, it is a null argument." Yet, you dismissed the sourced pictures, which you said are irrelevant just because they are not statements, because you think they are forged. I could sent two to you and five others ready on my disposal, even more.
@IvanTheMouse I should have seen your profile photo a long time ago. I should have know you were just being a troll. If you think your pictures are a slam dunk for your argument, just friggen share them and get over with it.
As for the crime rates in the UK, it is simply historical fact. Im not going to give you a lesson in British history. You can do that yourself, but it is simply a part of history that crime began to rise just short of half a decade after the end of WWII.
Then do you want me to send a message to you? I need a go signal, instead on an ad hominem argument. I can't post them in the comments to see, even if I want to, and I really want to.
Also, as for historical facts, I can't just rely on that. You can't fight facts and statistics, right? Provide it.
Got to LOVE Charleton Heston -- Jew lover or Jew hater: he takes the cake -- best oeuvre of nay actor (Maria Shiver and her serious reptilian ... err ... crocodilian jawbone, ever; when he and Sophia Loren took over the screen -- it was mega-teeth from edge to edge): remember meeting him and chatting, twice, the guy was just terrific .... logical and a stalwart icons for integrity ... he embodied CORE FOUNDING FATHERS' (of US of A) values -- a real stand-up guy: not a loser in any way!
I get ... fatso Michael Moore pleads with Heston to unload his firearms ... into ... a weird death wish: hm; compromised IQ, foists a leap of logic aka fallacy upon Charleton, which in the most courtesy manner CH sets fatty aright, at 4:23 - 4:31; yet, dork persists in abrogating CH's crystal clear cordial overture to change topic; instead, by 6:49 dork demands an apology for others' actions from CH. Harasses CH in his own house; NWO dork -- no regard for hospitality nor private property
Take away guns, there'd still be crime. Only the criminals would have guns.
The right to bear arms is grounded in the ability to form militia. Only a pompous fool would think America is so safe that that would never be needed...again.
Charlton Heston is a legend. I've seen all his movies and they all have the same hidden message behind them of promoting freedom and resisting the marxist left. If we only had more people like him the world today.
@thesocialpet No your the idiot. When a man uses long words and speaks intelligently you call him an idiot. He just spoke over your head and you did'nt like it.He is an American hero and your just another common everyday Loser
All the Al Gore's and Sean Penns, and Alec Baldwins can kiss my ass. They don't make men like Heston in Hollywood anymore. They're all a bunch of Faggots, and Godless Sodomites who would give our freedoms away just so they could enjoy just a few more day's of debauchery. So to the Rosy O'donnells, Sean Penns and all the other Queers, and Degenerates of Hollywood. Oh' and you to Mr. (Rapist Gore) , I say this also as an American who would give all for freedom, "MY COLD DEAD HANDS"!!!!!
@MrWingedSpirit "GET YOUR DAMN HANDS OFF MY GUNS YOU DAMN, DIRTY LIBERALS!!! No Offense, but wouldn't it have been funny if he would have said that. And your right, what a on and a million speaking voice. Remember how they used him in Wayne's World? Watch it if u haven't. It's Classic.
I just wanted to see this because of the Daily Show, great speech. Although when our founding fathers passed the amendment there were only single shot rifles. They had NO IDEA we could come to own AK-47's for 300 bucks (got mine for that much), or have the ability to buy a 50 cal machine gun(one being sold in NM)!! I feel that we should be allowed to own guns, but not all of them.
Thats what the FFL is for. It limits the ability to buy full-auto guns by the owner having to pay a fee every year to maintain the license. At the same time .50 is expensive ammo, almost $5 a round.
@vader2502005 I don't pay a fee though? And yeah of course it's expensive but what on earth are you gonna do with a 50 cal?? Hunt??! That's like using a magnum on an ant.
Oh I thought they had to pay a fee to maintain a FFL. Guess I am wrong. As for the 50 cal...darn stright. What better way to get rid of a squirrel problem than a 50BMG. lol, nothing wrong with overkill. Seriously though you would use it on very large game at long ranges. Caribou and moose would be some example of game in my area when you may have to shoot 300-400yds.
@Peruvian007 Our Founding Father's also had no Idea that this country's crime rate would be what it is today. And that Criminal's and Liberals would take our constitution and abuse it with Liberal Judges and bleeding heart crusaders who are getting the rapist, child molesters, home invaders and other street felons released after prison "REHABILITATION" programs. Today we live where terrorist are threatening our neighborhoods with anarchy. Thanks but I'll keep my 2nd ammendment rights.
I live in Australia and we have some seriously tough gun laws...but all that means is that everyone starts carrying knives.

@IvanTheMouse I would not resort to it if you weren't an idiot, who is simply trying to troll me.
tharealkovo 5 days ago
@tharealkovo
Oh. So now you went from trying to be logical to discrediting your opponent by calling him a "troll" and "an idiot", simply because of the profile picture?
How logical and mild mannered of a pro-control, eh?
IvanTheMouse 5 days ago
@IvanTheMouse ...I said that without evidence, it is a null argument. I stated historical facts. I am not your teacher or your mother, you can read up on the extensive history of the UK, if you wanted to. Don't take my word for it. As for recent crime rate sources, it has been plastered all over the UK news media. A quick google search will get you just some of the sources that back the argument.
tharealkovo 5 days ago
@tharealkovo
"I said that without evidence, it is a null argument." Yet, you dismissed the sourced pictures, which you said are irrelevant just because they are not statements, because you think they are forged. I could sent two to you and five others ready on my disposal, even more.
IvanTheMouse 5 days ago
@IvanTheMouse I should have seen your profile photo a long time ago. I should have know you were just being a troll. If you think your pictures are a slam dunk for your argument, just friggen share them and get over with it.
As for the crime rates in the UK, it is simply historical fact. Im not going to give you a lesson in British history. You can do that yourself, but it is simply a part of history that crime began to rise just short of half a decade after the end of WWII.
tharealkovo 5 days ago
@tharealkovo

The uprising against unquestioned Federal abuse is why the Founders penned the 2nd Amendment.
It had nothing to do with duck hunting.

(Rapist Gore) , I say this also as an American who would give all for freedom, "MY COLD DEAD HANDS"!!!!!

kimmie6209 6 months ago
I just wanted to see this because of the Daily Show, great speech. Although when our founding fathers passed the amendment there were only single shot rifles. They had NO IDEA we could come to own AK-47's for 300 bucks (got mine for that much), or have the ability to buy a 50 cal machine gun(one being sold in NM)!! I feel that we should be allowed to own guns, but not all of them.
Peruvian007 1 year ago
@Peruvian007
Thats what the FFL is for. It limits the ability to buy full-auto guns by the owner having to pay a fee every year to maintain the license. At the same time .50 is expensive ammo, almost $5 a round.
vader2502005 1 year ago
@vader2502005 I don't pay a fee though? And yeah of course it's expensive but what on earth are you gonna do with a 50 cal?? Hunt??! That's like using a magnum on an ant.
Peruvian007 1 year ago
@Peruvian007
Caribou and moose would be some example of game in my area when you may have to shoot 300-400yds.
vader2502005 1 year ago
@Peruvian007 Our Founding Father's also had no Idea that this country's crime rate would be what it is today. And that Criminal's and Liberals would take our constitution and abuse it with Liberal Judges and bleeding heart crusaders who are getting the rapist, child molesters, home invaders and other street felons released after prison "REHABILITATION" programs. Today we live where terrorist are threatening our neighborhoods with anarchy. Thanks but I'll keep my 2nd ammendment rights.

A rifle in the hands of the private individual is the ultimate manifestation of Individual Liberty's Power Against Tyranny.
savagegalt 2 years ago 3
@savagegalt A logical syllogism: If a freeman can defend himself, and I am a freeman, then I must be able to defend myself in order to be a freeman.
The only person who would remove our freedom to defend ourselves is the man prepared to rule in the absence of that freedom.
