What's different about FB/Google algorithms and the information editing that happens at The New York Times or Fox News? There is no "unedited" source out there. It's incumbent on the individual to seek out balance - if she cares.
This is very interesting about facebook.Even if others dont like it.I been watching facebook videos more an than i exspected an they are interesting here.Thank you for talking an sharing about facebook. If i had money for facebook i would do a few changes my self.
The Problem as I see it is that the very most people have been made idiots by the media. We don't care about politics, finance or the dying African. You can't blame Facebook or Google for just giving as what we really want. After seeing this video, what have you done? Clicked the funny dog video? I'm sure you did. Because I did.
What this guy is suggesting is that some centralized center for "objective" searching will somehow make the internet better. Not convinced.
It would only stand to reason that the scumbags and sociapaths that currently run our other criminal organizion (ie- the government) will then move on to control this centralized mechanism. (con't)
I like his approach to give us something to think about. I disagree with him on his assertion that human gatekeepers are somehow more "sensitive" and "personal" that algorithmic ones. Human gatekeepers (in the form of journalists or White House spokesmen/women, let's say) have a STRONG vested interest in keeping your bubbles as small as possible. The net versions have none of these biases and are decentralized, almost infinitely (con't)
@mysocalledknife07 i don't think it's about "who" the gatekeepers are, it's about accountability! if you "know" what filters you are triggering , WHO is setting the values in the algorithm , then you can understand bias in results , but when google sets the skew based on your potential as a market then your results are skewed by google to results that will lead you to buy
This problem is remedied by having an open mind and cultivating a diverse set of friends who all share their links with you... and for you to take a genuine interest in what they have to say. Like what they have to say, contribute to the discussion, and MIND YOUR MANNERS so that you continue to maintain a wide circle of influence. Meantime. I like being able to find what I want more efficiently.
Running a test on this google search result with my friends - we're all getting the same results so far. Not sure this is really happening like he says it is...
I don't think it's the job of Facebook to legislate morality for us. We must go to the trouble of seeking out information for ourselves. It is actually very important that people go to the trouble of doing it on their own, because otherwise they become (or remain) dependent on an authority figure or system who may or may not have their best interests in mind.
@waggawaggaful but isnt it the wrong way to make it harder to do so then otherwise? +the majority just doesnt give a fuck, and if you just say its their problem, well it aint, because the majority rules. Yes, in a mind of a selfaware, inteligent, independent and responsible individual it is better for him to go after it himself. The majority is not made out of such individuals and you cant just ignore that fact.
@n00binatorCZ Sure, I understand your point. But then who do we choose as benevolent dictator to make enlightened choices on behalf of the ignorant/uncaring masses? Can we trust such a person or group of people to not become corrupt over time and to always act in our best interest? History shows otherwise. Democracy might not be perfect, but it's the best system man has devised so far.
@n00binatorCZ Also, I *seriously* doubt Google and Facebook are conspiring to keep the American people dumbed down sheeple. If you are worried that you'll become dumbed down simply because Facebook isn't showing you what ought to be looking for in the first place, then I'd say you've got a much bigger problem than Facebook on your hands... in other words - yourself. Don't EVER rely on any outside "authority figure" to be the only gateway of information for you. That is how you become a slave.
@waggawaggaful Goddamnti man, that's as clear as sky, big f**king news... Ofcoarse you allways have to rely on yourself. But this is a question of "no positive effort, censoring out different points of view, isolating whilst creating the illusion of connectedness" and "still fucked up corporate bullsh*t, but being forced by the public to stop being THAT evil, seizing the retarding effects on the society's evolution towards general wellbeing and aspiration to become harmonous".
@n00binatorCZ It is impractical to see the world black and white, as you demonstrated by your comments. Yes ofcoarse one should NEVER (and I can't stress this enough) compromise when talking about his ideals/personal ideology, but this is a matter of a first step and trying to get things moving, not setting the final goal.
Hmmm.... I don't know. He doesn't seem to take personal responsibility and self-reliance into account. Who is Facebook or Google to be teaching us morals? And how do they decide what's "moral" or "responsible" for others? Sounds to me like he's arguing for Big Brother. Computer programmers are scientists, not moral philosophers. It's up to us as free individuals to decide how to use the tools they create for us.
This is the real challenge for those who are in the position to decide what we see, or what we can produce, based on the algorithms they produce. Please don't let something so powerful, become a vehicle of fear! Nobody wants bureaucratic bumblers controlling things. Police the web objectively!
Now that is very scary stuff. Thanks for posting this very important video. Glad my friend emailed it to me or I would probably never see it because I'm more of a progressive conservative Canadian.
This is NOT a problem. I think that tailoring is genius, because the search results are there, it is just on separate pages if you look at them comparably. They are not "deleting" or "removing them".
Not just that, but individuals from Nebraska are different from individuals from New Jersey.
They are not "gate keepers" who do not allow you to go to a certain areas on the web, but rather tailors to recommend what you really want. Ted is lazy by not clicking on "more results" to find what he wants
@s1ider That is not what this is about under the skin though , it is about the fact that through this method , there are things that the government and world leaders do not wish to have in circulation in most cases , it is a form of suppression and control , when in the first place the internet was created for easier flow of KNOWLEDGE , it was supposed to originally make the world more concious of there surroundings / history / future
@POETIXPRO I understand your point, however, Ted states that it is tailor made for people by preference of what they view, but then goes to imply that government is controlling what you see. Question, If people are from different location yet mirror their search and browsing habbits, does it reflect on where you live or rather your habbits?
I bet that it is more about habbits. This is a GOOD thing as I don't want to be 5 search pages in before I find "what I am looking for" <--- main point here
@POETIXPRO So, with this said, would it be easier for the government to control a system that uses different tailored algorithms, or to control what everyone has to see because of it being non-tailored or adjusted?
It was not originally "supposed" to do anything. There is a diversity of drives, ideas, and puropose that different people want. Do you want us all to see the SAME thing when typing in "america"? What if I was looking for Miss "america" instead of bad evil "america"? let me choose.
@s1ider You couldn't have missed the point more completely. He is saying that the customizing or tailoring of search results or facebook feeds is not letting us see the entire picture. It's not about clicking 'more results' to get what we want. Because with life and especially the internet, we don't always know what we want until we come across it. So instaed, it's about being given all the information and then having the prerogative to choose what we want. Maybe we need an 'uncustomize' button.
@TheJoePepper I saw this again. No, I did not miss the point.
In fact, I will go further by quoting him, "...the internet is showing us what it thinks we WANT to see, but not necessarily what we NEED to see."
So, Mr. Ted, what do we NEED to see, and who is going to dictate that? Not me. Quite honestly, I do not care about what you or anyone thinks I NEED to see. That is just sales talk so they can shove what they WANT me to see. I am happy for tailorization.
@TheJoePepper No offence, but I generally do know what I want when surfing the web. Also, I know how to search effectivly, rather than just typing "Egypt" and hopeing for the best.
@s1ider exactly. people who are considering this a problem of totalitarianism are ignoring WHY these web ideas are being created. metadata is an amazing thing. i imagine a lot of people here do not know much about web engineering, and are even ignoring the point of this simplified view. it's concerning but it's laughable to say it's a totalitarian effort. people are so ignorant sometimes.
@moralreef True, very true. Ususally the people that cry "foul" over this are the type that only want you to see things the way they see them, and rather not have their ideas or morals challenged or opposing views being viewed by others. They would love for you to type in the word, "bible" and have it pop up with the skepticsanointedbible as top hit.
They don't see that with this tailored system, YOUR ideas/desires make it to the FRONT, not ommited. Ted is wrong. That is all. Cheers to that :)
its concerning, but not something to get tinfoil-hat about. you're accessing google every day, nobody is telling you to. there are plenty of other web search services on the internet; but the price is a shitter algorithm in the process. the top two guys with quotes seem to be good at making a neat little quotation for people to like, but it really doesn't fit the bill.
people should be wary of monopoly internet giants, but they gave you the service; its up to you to MAKE the web yours
@s1ider bbs, telnet, irc, coding web pages in html. i had to teach myself how to fix my computer by pulling it apart. thumbs up for being smart enough to hit 'more results'
@nkmarks its a ted talk; it was watched the world over. so yes people have listened, and they realise it's concerning, but its not totally reprehensible.
same happens with youtube, when some videos are retricted in some countries. GRRRR and on wikipedia, if you change the language, u get less/ more information, but SURE with other pictures
@cloudcrazy86 blame copyright thugs like the RIAA for that; not Google. they're the ones throwing legal threats around like nobody's business and trying to let stupid laws into congress. Ignore it, the way things are going it may even all stop soon.
(cont.) as well as your browsing and search history and try to come up with results that is relevant only to you. No for you non-techies out there if you don't like this then it's really easy to turn off. Just constantly clear your browsing history, turn your security and privacy settings on high and don't allow for cookies or variables to be set on your machine. Then if you do that it's really hard for Google to track you.
Look for all you people out there that agree with him, then just think back to the days when you searched for something and all kinds of junk came back. What did you people do then? Compalin that there is too much junk in your search results and that search engines should only return results that is relevant to you. Well how do you think companies like Google is going to do this? Wave their freaking magic wand and read your mind? Of course they got to start looking at the demographics
right..but when you click on wikipedia or other webpage like youtube unless there is a virus in it. the same webpage is gonna appear. it still depends on what you are looking for.
Why did TED decide that anything he has to say is useful? I don't think he can complain about free services. Additionally, if he wants to disable google'd personalized search, then use InPrivate Browsing or delete your cookies and don't log into google. Complaining about free services is like complaining that the sun is too bright. Either don't look at it, or go inside and pay for electricity.
TPTB don't want people connecting if your opposed to corrupt politicians or want to keep up with Occupy Wall Street movement or know about the next oil disaster in the Arctic or Gulf or how many tons of toxic sewage sludge is sold & used in tens of thousands of farms & ranches in the U.S, or protest vaccinations with mercury in it. That's why google/youtube is censoring. Other countries have banned parasitic GM foods & haven't made growing healthy food in our own backyards illegal (s510).
FOX News never gave me a view of TED, it is just my my conservative views, my upbringing did. TED is far to liberal for me. One should stand up, pick your self up by ur boot straps to effect your own change in ur town/city/nation. you dont need ted.
CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG OR NOT GETTING THE POINT, BUT!! I actually think that google personalizing my searches is an amazing smart thing that helps out a big time and saves time and that if I googled diet and got junk food whereas I want healthy ones I can be more specific in my search box! right?! and I am that type of person who doesnt really want to see something that doesnt interest me it could actually annoy me if I dislike it and just found it cause google doesnt discriminate!!!
@giggzTV Seriously I can't believe that you would rather a computer program choose for you what you need to see, personally I would put up with pages of spam if it meant that I was in total control of what I was searching for.
@Thyalwaysseek Aahhmm!! YOU ARE! in total control of what you search!! google is helping you with saving time by giving you results which seem more interesting for you... AND THEN the normal other results after so it saves your time! PLUS! if you want to search something BE SPECIFIC when you type in the search box I mean if you say ''EGYPT PROTESTS'' google will not tell you NO YOU ONLY GET HOLIDAYS RESULTS!! or what do you think??!!
@giggzTV I don't need a computer thinking for me, we've had over 2000 years of others thinking for us do you really not think it's time we started thinking for ourselves again? I do.
It is of course a bullshit title, but then that is @thoughtawakening's fault for being hopelessly out of the loop. They haven't been hiding this from the world, this has always been public - the companies believe the individual is a better filterer than someone else.
It's also ironic that Pariser suggests, 'the internet is showing us what it thinks what we want to see, but not necessarily what we need to see.'
The very act of deciding what we need to see - a solution in his eyes - is by definition a form of 'tailoring' data - the problem in his eyes.
I'm not trolling, or being argumentative, I find this TED speech intriguing and important. It's just a complex subject for which it's impossible to find simple answers.
SUMMARY: The Jew Pariser complains about The Jew Zuckerberg, The Jew Schmidt and The Jew Brin; and about how The Jew tries to manage all information.
0:26 That's ironic...a squirrel dying in my front yard IS more relevant to my interests than people dying in Africa. You never know what kind of diseases and bugs those rodents are carrying. They your dog or cat gets into it, then they get inside and play with the kids.... YUCK!!!!
@starlonferns they'd get their ass off their shoulders, quit putting their hands out, and get productive. :)
The average poor american lives in a home larger than the average NON-POOR european. The average poor person also has 2 or more TVs, a car, coffee maker, and washing machine. A handout teaches you to put your hand out again.
Meh, big deal. If you search for Egypt and get hotels rates, then taylor your search a little more. Go to CNN or something to get your news on Egypt. I don't see a problem here.
Progressives live in a bubble. And when you pop it they cry, therefore the need a bubble to protect them from reality. I don't have a problem searching stuff. I have a cool bubble I guess.
@ba4lspork Oh crap ---> "WOOO.." <--- I made you cry and didnt even have the time to prick your bubble. I guess progressives just cry like spineless bitches more often than I thought.
Don't worry, I post challenging contreversial things on my Facebook all the time, and I know people see them because they get angry at me and then we have 50 line discussions. I don't recommend this method of opening people's minds though, because it does create a lot of conflict
Google search works on tailoring your results according to your search history. In my case, I get all information you have mentioned above, because of my consistency in asking for the same issues, such as foreign politics, and alternative interests. I kind of like this filtering process, because it eliminates the junk that I don't need.
@rabihkk Yes, that's one of the main points made in the video; that something that we don't know anything about, is of no interest to us; it can't be, since we're never really confronted with it. The video illustrates this concept with the "filter bubble" (approximately 4:08). Of course, I am not saying that all is interesting, as long as we try to learn about it, but it can't possibly be interesting if the knowledge that we do have, is either shallow or selective. What do you think?
@DragonBice@DragonBice This issue is very broad and can be looked at from many different angles. One of the ways that I see it: take a real life example, we go to so many different social events throughout our lives, and eventually we settle on a certain crowd, that's ideas and values mesh with us. Weeding out those that "Annoy us" :) And if I have an interest in a person or a (subject) I will look them up. After so many years of research on the net, I know what is of interest to me.
@rabihkk However: whether we have a responsibility or not, to take an interest in, let's say, "people dying in Africa" - as Mark Zuckerberg puts it - is a different discussion, or even a debate, that I really can't choose sides in right now :)
@DragonBice I have many interests, and I look them up on the Net, social issues, such as genocide in Rwanda, science, tech and so on, I make a point of targeting those issues. If someone is constantly looking up the Kardashians, I doubt it they would know what the word Genocide means, so they are not missing anything in the first place.
enjoy the web now because the government will soon take it over just like they are taking control of us. Google Chemtrails and watch-What in the world are they spraying on you tube.
While most people won't care, as they aren't too sentient, even more people than that will not do the whole amount of work it takes to get rid of the trackers. The dumbest people are the ones who are doing the mind-shaping, for it will eventually come back to haunt them.
@jbharix, I can't speak for Stonemason1990. This speech was not "dribble". But before you play the "get all your talking points from Fox News card" do you find it a little ironic that a self declared progressive is worried about "filtering" or restricting the ideas and information we are exposed to? Have you been on a college campus lately or watched TV (other than Fox News) or went to a movie? Do you think students and the public are fairly exposed to conservative ideas in these institutions?
Thank you for this video. He's right. And a lot of people just don't seem to care, because their impulses have been trained to dismiss it for the squirrel dying in their front yard..
@beansgoya That is completely understandable. But maybe it would be more responsible to find another, separate network to do that for you, rather than leave all information-sharing to knowledge moguls like Google.
This is surprising? This is why I spend as little time as possible on Facebook. Google gives me the information I am looking for, whether it tailors my search to me or not. If you really want to be paranoid, consider this: social networks and search engines provide a rich data mine for the shadow government to track us, while they are tracking terrorists. And TED will provide even more nuggets for that data mine. The only sure-fire solution to this manipulation is to become an Amish person.
@Stonemason1990 Care to actually explain what your echo chamber rhetoric is supposed to mean? I know it was really easy to hop in here and spout whatever Fox News told you to believe, but it's much harder to actually translate that into an actual opinionated argument. People like you prefer rhetoric and talking points over actual substance because it's easier to blindly assume you're correct instead of actually learning something.
You wanna give it a shot and hopefully prove me wrong?
I enjoyed this video and believe the message is powerful and true. However, the Irony is too much to handle. Eli Pariser, a Progressive, expresses concern over the "filtering" that takes place on the web with respect to the way information is tailored to us in Google, Facebook, and Yahoo News. Try being a conservative for 1 day. Eli would see the "filters" the movie & TV industry & media place on information and ideas. Do a talk on "What the Media and Hollywood are Hiding from the World."
FIRST OF ALL, this is not the original video see watch?v=B8ofWFx525s. Secondly, this video has nothing to do with tracking or anything like that. It is only showing how Facebook would filter out certain knowledge and why we should have control of the filter, not an algorithm. This video uses false tags such as "secret" and "agenda" to get more views.
when we adapt to this ...the one thing it will push us to...will be more human interaction, so when your friends Scott and Daniel realize they are getting different information they can then talk about it!! in the end they would have gained more information then if they had received the same search result!!! SO THE KEY HERE IS MORE HUMAN INTERACTION!!!
@ging1406 - To an extent you have a good point, and perhaps social media serves that interaction purpose where the diversity of different angles are interchanged, but personally, I would prefer to have access to ALL the data available that I can edit and filter myself so that I would be fully aware of the total spectrum that exists.
well i thing that...instead of fighting a battle we can't win...we should just learn to adapt, that has been one of the human's greatest ability. i cant really argue that these filters are wrong! reason being the fact that the filters are base on what we like and what we are interested in, if you click on something that is on page ten everyday...it's only right that google makes it easier for you by putting it on the first page...
this is in some way related to the story I watched the other day which proposed that more young women in the US know more about the Kardashians than know what the 3 branches of the US government are.
I've never tried to include a link in a comment and I can't
This is one example the "news" "junk food" aspect that helps create the filter bubble.
@DenkErstmalNach The most important technique is to never rely on one source for a majority of your news. Find an online news source that delivers the same news to every person, and has no strong partisan bias. Then find another to compare. Expose yourself to their wide variety of headlines, then even if you don't feel the need to delve into the details, you'll still have a better sense of what's going on than what these companies are "tailoring" to what they think your "interests" are.
If anyone here has taken a psychology or philosophy class you know how important and intellectually healthy it is to see alternate points of view. It helps you not only understand where others are coming from but can strengthen your own argument as well. Without seeing both sides of everything people become ignorant, self centered, dogmatic, and unaccepting of other peoples values. Filters and censorship like this only reinforce this problem. Look up the theory of confirmation bias. Great video

mysocalledknife07 1 month ago
@mysocalledknife07 i don't think it's about "who" the gatekeepers are, it's about accountability! if you "know" what filters you are triggering , WHO is setting the values in the algorithm , then you can understand bias in results , but when google sets the skew based on your potential as a market then your results are skewed by google to results that will lead you to buy

I don't think it's the job of Facebook to legislate morality for us. We must go to the trouble of seeking out information for ourselves. It is actually very important that people go to the trouble of doing it on their own, because otherwise they become (or remain) dependent on an authority figure or system who may or may not have their best interests in mind.
waggawaggaful 1 month ago
@waggawaggaful but isnt it the wrong way to make it harder to do so then otherwise? +the majority just doesnt give a fuck, and if you just say its their problem, well it aint, because the majority rules. Yes, in a mind of a selfaware, inteligent, independent and responsible individual it is better for him to go after it himself. The majority is not made out of such individuals and you cant just ignore that fact.
n00binatorCZ 1 month ago
@n00binatorCZ Sure, I understand your point. But then who do we choose as benevolent dictator to make enlightened choices on behalf of the ignorant/uncaring masses? Can we trust such a person or group of people to not become corrupt over time and to always act in our best interest? History shows otherwise. Democracy might not be perfect, but it's the best system man has devised so far.
waggawaggaful 1 month ago
@n00binatorCZ Also, I *seriously* doubt Google and Facebook are conspiring to keep the American people dumbed down sheeple. If you are worried that you'll become dumbed down simply because Facebook isn't showing you what ought to be looking for in the first place, then I'd say you've got a much bigger problem than Facebook on your hands... in other words - yourself. Don't EVER rely on any outside "authority figure" to be the only gateway of information for you. That is how you become a slave.
waggawaggaful 1 month ago
@waggawaggaful Goddamnti man, that's as clear as sky, big f**king news... Ofcoarse you allways have to rely on yourself. But this is a question of "no positive effort, censoring out different points of view, isolating whilst creating the illusion of connectedness" and "still fucked up corporate bullsh*t, but being forced by the public to stop being THAT evil, seizing the retarding effects on the society's evolution towards general wellbeing and aspiration to become harmonous".
n00binatorCZ 1 month ago
@n00binatorCZ It is impractical to see the world black and white, as you demonstrated by your comments. Yes ofcoarse one should NEVER (and I can't stress this enough) compromise when talking about his ideals/personal ideology, but this is a matter of a first step and trying to get things moving, not setting the final goal.
n00binatorCZ 1 month ago

Ted is lazy by not clicking on "more results" to find what he wants
s1ider 1 month ago
@s1ider That is not what this is about under the skin though , it is about the fact that through this method , there are things that the government and world leaders do not wish to have in circulation in most cases , it is a form of suppression and control , when in the first place the internet was created for easier flow of KNOWLEDGE , it was supposed to originally make the world more concious of there surroundings / history / future
POETIXPRO 1 month ago
@POETIXPRO I understand your point, however, Ted states that it is tailor made for people by preference of what they view, but then goes to imply that government is controlling what you see. Question, If people are from different location yet mirror their search and browsing habbits, does it reflect on where you live or rather your habbits?
I bet that it is more about habbits. This is a GOOD thing as I don't want to be 5 search pages in before I find "what I am looking for" <--- main point here
s1ider 1 month ago
@POETIXPRO So, with this said, would it be easier for the government to control a system that uses different tailored algorithms, or to control what everyone has to see because of it being non-tailored or adjusted?
It was not originally "supposed" to do anything. There is a diversity of drives, ideas, and puropose that different people want. Do you want us all to see the SAME thing when typing in "america"? What if I was looking for Miss "america" instead of bad evil "america"? let me choose.
s1ider 4 weeks ago
@s1ider its just subliminal
POETIXPRO 1 month ago
@s1ider You couldn't have missed the point more completely. He is saying that the customizing or tailoring of search results or facebook feeds is not letting us see the entire picture. It's not about clicking 'more results' to get what we want. Because with life and especially the internet, we don't always know what we want until we come across it. So instaed, it's about being given all the information and then having the prerogative to choose what we want. Maybe we need an 'uncustomize' button.
TheJoePepper 1 month ago
@TheJoePepper I saw this again. No, I did not miss the point.
In fact, I will go further by quoting him, "...the internet is showing us what it thinks we WANT to see, but not necessarily what we NEED to see."
So, Mr. Ted, what do we NEED to see, and who is going to dictate that? Not me. Quite honestly, I do not care about what you or anyone thinks I NEED to see. That is just sales talk so they can shove what they WANT me to see. I am happy for tailorization.
s1ider 4 weeks ago
@TheJoePepper No offence, but I generally do know what I want when surfing the web. Also, I know how to search effectivly, rather than just typing "Egypt" and hopeing for the best.
s1ider 4 weeks ago
@s1ider exactly. people who are considering this a problem of totalitarianism are ignoring WHY these web ideas are being created. metadata is an amazing thing. i imagine a lot of people here do not know much about web engineering, and are even ignoring the point of this simplified view. it's concerning but it's laughable to say it's a totalitarian effort. people are so ignorant sometimes.
moralreef 1 month ago
@moralreef True, very true. They don't see that with this tailored system, YOUR ideas/desires make it to the FRONT, not ommited. Ted is wrong. That is all. Cheers to that :)

c. because wikipedia has a strict policy on hosting copyright material.

@rabihkk I think that "what you need", is a matter of definition.
DragonBice 1 month ago
@DragonBice you are right, the correct wording should be "The issues that are of no Interest to me"
rabihkk 1 month ago
@rabihkk Yes, that's one of the main points made in the video; that something that we don't know anything about, is of no interest to us; it can't be, since we're never really confronted with it. The video illustrates this concept with the "filter bubble" (approximately 4:08). Of course, I am not saying that all is interesting, as long as we try to learn about it, but it can't possibly be interesting if the knowledge that we do have, is either shallow or selective. What do you think?
DragonBice 1 month ago
@DragonBice @DragonBice This issue is very broad and can be looked at from many different angles. One of the ways that I see it: take a real life example, we go to so many different social events throughout our lives, and eventually we settle on a certain crowd, that's ideas and values mesh with us. Weeding out those that "Annoy us" :) And if I have an interest in a person or a (subject) I will look them up. After so many years of research on the net, I know what is of interest to me.
rabihkk 1 month ago
@rabihkk However: whether we have a responsibility or not, to take an interest in, let's say, "people dying in Africa" - as Mark Zuckerberg puts it - is a different discussion, or even a debate, that I really can't choose sides in right now :)
DragonBice 1 month ago
@DragonBice I have many interests, and I look them up on the Net, social issues, such as genocide in Rwanda, science, tech and so on, I make a point of targeting those issues. If someone is constantly looking up the Kardashians, I doubt it they would know what the word Genocide means, so they are not missing anything in the first place.

And TED will provide even more nuggets for that data mine. The only sure-fire solution to this manipulation is to become an Amish person.

Great video
