  • That poor guitar is at HIS mercy...

  • Farco -- your ego is so big you ruin a good video by making me look at your name?

  • I've cracked it ....no human can play a guitar like that - he's a phucking ALIEN !

  • EPIC!

  • Amazing performance! Dire Straits are in a class of their own.

  • MK's solos are insane clever The syncopation style is rarely found Perhaps Albert Lee and Ronnie Earl can achieve this format style as well as MK and cohort.

  • Johns single whole note during the percussion/drum solo carried the crowd right along,. Most drum solos dictate a pee break

  • c'est juste magnifico !

  • I love that rif he plays at 2:23 and all through the song, plays with such ease

  • I love the duo between the percussion and the drum at 6:20

  • You know how sometimes when you hear a band on the radio and own their records, when you see a live performance they sound really dull and un-together? The Straights are not one of those bands.

  • @cattyski Yah It's you....

  • Bel hommage à Elvis Presley.

  • Sends shivers up my spine!

  • awesome!!!!!

  • Beautiful!

  • Damn fine drum solo too!

  • @hsym100

    Surley you jest.

  • Is this song written by J.J.Cale?

  • I get shivers down my spine listening to this awesomeness. Mark Knopfler is one of the greatest guitarists. This is real music people. Much better than the commercial garbage you hear nowadays from pseudo-artists (*cough*bieber*cough*)

  • Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton are the LORDS of rock'n'roll, no doubt about it !!

  • Paul Franklin is playing pedal steel on this. He's the first call Nashville guy, has been for years.

  • @TheDrummer51

MK has never been afraid of sharing his stage with best of the best.

  • ahh whats up with teh prince and the revelations ending?

  • @orison319 Where do you think Prince got that?

  • 6 people don't know how to play the guitar as well as Mark.

  • is that Jeff Healy ???

  • üç gündür aradığım şarkıyı yada şarkıların şarkısını gitarın gitarını buldum tşkler youtube

  • MK.....Cooler than the other side of the pillow<3

  • mark knopfler=GOD

  • Absolutely outstanding!

  • Absolutely amazing

  • calling elvis

  • inutile, è da sposare, e io sono nata nell'epoca sbagliata, c***o.

  • Top class performance :)

  • Holy Crap. Great video. Elvis is awake and alive!

  • 2:23 amazing

  • This song was 20 years ago no.10 in the world charts #dire #straits

  • Music is like breathing to these guys....effortless almost. Every note, every word - right on time....

  • This needs at least 5 times as many views... and the same goes for other songs in this period. Fantastic!

  • @n91827 The Dude - "That is like just your opinion man"

  • monsters

  • Master of groove ! Master of feeling ! Master guitarist ...

  • A magical song written by a Rock God in memory of THE Rock GOD!

  • from the dvd on the night

  • Marks my mantasy. My big time mancrush. Hes the sex when he has a guitar in his hands.

  • Mark Knopfler at his very best and loving every minute of it ....a real guitarists number performed to perfection.

  • it sounds like recorded in studio!! or even better... :) awesome!

  • Isn't this from Dire Straits 'On the Night', i remember recording this on vhs back in '89 i think, still have the vhs cassette somewhere! This was their opening song wasn't it?

  • @urbanfireblade Thank you!

  • Calling Knopler - Is anybody home?

  • @icarus7z7 hahaha!! That's good!! we miss the old Mark!

  • MK puts so much emotion into his live renditions.

  • Fantastic!!!!!!

  • Does anyone know where this is taken from?

  • This is really great! Thanks.

  • Is Chris Whitten on drums? (red t-shirt)

  • @redstratocaster1942 yes he is.

  • 5 people tried to call Elvis....and got misdirected. Sucks to be them! Rock on Mark!!

  • How do you know true talent when you hear it? When the artists sound way better live than they do in the studio, that's how. Intense. One of Knopfler's best. Should've done a few more "jam band" style tunes like this one.

Knopfler wasn't just a virtuoso on guitar. He was also orchestrating. That's why his head always seemed to be on a swivel.

Imagine an orchestra in which the lead violinist was also the conductor, and you'll get the idea.

  • calling Elvis !

  • From 6:20 to 7:20 my computer was on fire and later extinguished by Knopflers`cool attitude and smooth guitar. The percussionist reminds me of Michael Shrieve (Santana`s drummer) Woodstock 69` festival .

  • @javichuification The percussionist is now Mark Knopfler's drummer on tours and on his latest albums

  • Look at how MK mesmerizes the crowd. A little solo riff here, a little solo riff here, lots of percussion, and the guitars always present or not too far in the shadows. Absolutely outstanding.

  • I love this guy !!!

  • Oh My God...

  • Does it get better than this?

    A 10 minute orgasm.

  • Ja habe ich noch garnicht gesehen SUPI

  • my favourite band singing about my favourite singer, oh yeah

  • Saw this band in late 80's at Melb tennis center, absolutely awesome, started gig with this track and what a cracker......... just wonderin if others here saw and melt

  • Great. Thanks.

  • drum solo!!!!!!!

  • Too bad there are not more concerts and

real talented musicians like this nowadays.

    LONG LIVE REAL MUSIC !!

  • I could watch and listen to this all day !

    Music, THE universal language.

    Gotta love it !!

  • Watching MK play is unreal, looks like if he wasn't singing he'd be bored to tears.

  • This is so awesome! I've never seen dire straits live, and it make's me so angry!!! :D

If the is some rock god, please, pleaSE bring 'em back, just for one gig at least!

Anywhere in the world, i'll be there!!!

  • 4 people tried calling elvis

  • One of the greatest rock pieces ever?

  • I love this song...

    Amazing guitar...

  • etchaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Many thanks for uploading this kontoskaliou !!

Smokin !!! Brings back a lot of GOOD memories. Just like when

I was at the Pink Floyd concerts and their (Pink Floyd) Pulse tour

concert which I was at when they played in Denver. Man, it just

doesn't seem like it was that long ago. Sigh............

Real music lives ON !! THANKS AGAIN !!!!

  • @emceekaz I couldn't have said it better !! There is just NO comparison between

ACTUAL talent and creative musicians (like this whole band) versus,pre-programmed

computerized fakes that even go so far as to desecrate the ORIGINAL songs of the

talented musicians by trying to "re do" them, because they can't come up with their

OWN stuff or any truly original quality ! Dire Straits is SMOKIN' !! The choreography

and talent by the whole band here (love the percussion !) is what REAL musicians do !

  • @Alaskaanmlvr Excellent Point!!

  • @GeorgeTel100 Thanks. ROCK ON !!

  • Those 4 never calling Elvis.

  • prosto polnui pizdes!!!!!!

  • He makes it too easy and Im sure its not THAT easy... he is just standing there playing the guitar... its awesome :)

  • Those two Percusionists are awsome !

  • I wish I was there..

  • For Shizzel !

  • I love Dire Straits beacuse they play the real Rock`n Roll. When listening to the song When it comes to you, you feel like you're on a highway, sitting next to you your girlfriend, a liter of whiskey.....thats the real life

  • Ahhh.... I do SO miss REAL music, and talented musicians, instead of

these attempted copycats and product sellers of today that even take

original artist's songs and desecrate them.

This is some definite jamming !!

Love the drums and percussion too !! Real music lives on !!!

  • Did I die and go to heaven !

  • @raythenation yes, we are in Heaven! **** awesome!!! ****

  • an almost hypnotic performance. Excellent. First saw Dire Straits at the Hammersmith Odeon when Alchemy was released, one of the finest bands ever not like the crap of today.

  • Simply one of the best songs ever!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great Rock with mix of R&B is just amazing. I can just equate Dirty Diana of MJ of such Quality. Mark Knofler, david Gulmour were just two uncomparable legends of 70s and 80s

  • CLARO QUE MARK KNOPFLER TOCA BIEN LA GUITARRA...PERO A LLAMARLO DIOS DE LA GUITARRA......ENTONCES NO HAS VISTO A CARLOS SANTANA, (POR DECIRTE SOLO UNO) . Y ANDA PA`CARIPITO PA`DARTE UNAS CLASECITAS DE MUSICA TEORICA...SALUDOS, LUIS B.

  • Who in the last 15 yrs. can beat these guys??? What a great era!

  • When you see Mark Knopfler play guitar he seems to say: "Hey man, easy to play guitar"... World class!

  • Anyone know what scale he's using from 2:40 the solos he does around that time? And the other ones? Is it the Dorian mode? And after 3:35?

  • @TheMUSEism I think he only use mixolydian in this song. But i'm not sure

  • Anyone know what scale he's using from 2:40 the solos he does around that time? And the other ones? Is it the Dorian mode?

  • @TheMUSEism Sounds dorian to me. It has the minor 3rd, methinks. I would be surprised if he mwiggleed some major. He does a lot of minor pentatonic, before he starts addign teh extra notes for dorian, though.

  • @TheMUSEism Sounds dorian to me. It has the minor 3rd, methinks. I would be surprised if he wiggled into some major, though. He does a lot of minor pentatonic, before he starts adding the extra notes for dorian, though.

  • What guitar is Mr. K using? :D

  • @TheMUSEism Pensa Suhr

  • @Bluesman681 Oh is it a custom for Mark Knopfler?

  • @TheMUSEism Don't know about this one, but in 1980, he used Schecter Stratocaster-style guitars to record Making Movies. Mark owned many Schecter guitars, including a Candy Apple Red. This was his main guitar for live and studio use until 1987. In 2004 one of his Schecters, a Strat with a tobacco sunburst finish, was sold at an auction for over $50,000, the highest amount ever paid for a Schecter.

  • The best at Dire Straits!!!

  • Great, great, great!

  • CAn you believe there were critics that disliked this album and called it their worst, JAckasses!!!!!!!!!

OUt of 552 LIKES there were 4 dislikes. They must be Jackasssesss

  • @avidbookreader It is certainly bizarre that the Go Gos are in the Hall and Dire Straits and The Cars sit on the outside. This album and Communique are certainly underrated.

  • @jml2621 I agree with you about On the Night and Communiqué being underrated, even though both albums sell very, very well - 8 million copies worldwide for On the Night, 7 millions for Communiqué, still pales in comparison with the phenomenal success of Brothers in Arms album. - I know some fans prefer their earlier work, but I honestly love all of their albums equally. Love most of their songs, some move me deeply, but there are four songs I am terribly addicted to. Just can't help it.;)

  • @jml2621 Pardon me for the mistake. I mean "On Every Street" album, not "On the Night". :)

  • @avidbookreader hi, I did'nt not it but i am facinated by his maneer to sing wonderful

  • @gbagbo89 Yeah, Mark and the boys are amazing, aren't they? ;-) This live performance is absolutely superb, much better than the studio version, imho. Do yo know this is the opening song at On the Night concert? The crowd there is a wonderful sight to behold, too. ;)

  • @avidbookreader i love this song so much and its an amazing version of it but that bass player and his sill dance are so fucking annoying lol , very enjoyably as always to hear dire straits they truely are amazing :D

  • arghhh that song is so awesomeeeeehrfnmeignkjrgbunsrmlvjtnob !!

  • Oh let's please hear it again @2:22 ..... Awesome!

  • Now now, Knopfler may be in a class by himself but Clapton is a serious artist in his own right. I'll be seeing him in a few days here in Vancouver, which'll be a third for me. Seen Mark zero times. But I do own most of his work. :)

  • @cjwright79 .I flew from Kentucky to Seattle for MK Sailing to Philadelphia concert on a Monday night, drove to Vancover BC for same concert Tuesday night, and then down to Portland Or for same concert on Wednesday night, back to Seattle and flew home next day...Thought about the same trip this year but at 75 year old it might have been a little to much.

  • Fantastic, great live performance.

  • Fan-fuckin' tastic !! Great live performance !!

  • The Godfather of guitar solo - brilliant!

  • O - M - G !!!!!!!!

Saw them perform the On Every Street Concert live in Sheffield Arena UK in mid eighties. THE BEST concert I've ever seen. ALL brilliant musicians in their own rights. The drummer on Calling Elvis really lets himself go (as does percussion). Make me smile. So good.

  • soooooo good...... more you listening.....better for your senses.......

  • Mark Knopfler eats Santanas and shits Claptons.

  • YES THE GOD OF GUITAR only to watch him play !

  • the god of the guitar!!!

  • @checkempate err no...that would be Pete Townshend

  • Allan Holdsworth, of course.

  • @checkempate the guy using the red guitar (namely phil palmer) uses a green strat and blows peoples minds in the same concert in money for nothing

  • 2:22 to 2:28 OOOOOO MMMMYYYYY GOOODDDDDDDD!!!!!

    Simply sick skills!!!!!!!!!!!!!
