It was not a victory for freedom. The court said that government can issue "reasonable" restrictions. Read the 2nd amendment, there is no phrase saying restrictions are ok. Anytime a restrictions is put on guns, our rights are being infringed upon.
The Libertarian Party is what this country needs. Bob Barr as president is what this country needs. However, I fear that Bob Barr will not have much of a chance in this election, although I will still vote for him and tell all of my friends and family about the truths that he represents. I hope that this country will eventually see the light, and vote for a Libertarian president. The real change starts now.

Bob Barr is the only true American running for President.
You can call yourself Democrat or Republican, but if you support either major party candidates you are not a true conservative.
McCain wants to illegaly wiretap YOU, run a governament of perpetual war of agression and only cut taxes for the super-rich while leaving you in the cold.
Don't put your fear before your freedom, if you're a true patriot, a God fearing conservative, vote Bobb Barr!
America is not ready for a Libertarian president. America is a culture of hypocrisy and doublestandards drowning in bullshit and PCness and the average voter (entitlement seeker) is too stupid to see the train is about to fly off the track.
I give it twenty years.
The GOP cannot win without the jesus freaks who are far from Libertarians. Compound that with the fact the Dims all but say vote for us and we will give you other peoples money. Result of DC ruling..almost no change at all
Chuck Baldwin opposes abortion without exception, believes in conspiracy theories, and is an economic protectionist. There are some good things about him, but there are many negatives as well. Bob Barr used to be a hardcore conservative, but he has now changed into a true libertarian from what I can see. If Ron Paul can''t make it, we'll just have to Raise the Barr in 2008.
Far from it, he has publicly admitted on national television that his past votes were wrong and that he regrets voting for the PATRIOT Act and Iraq. He has publicly admitted that his stance on drugs was wrong on national television as well. I don't see how that's a neocon doing a libertarian impersonation.
Bob Barr thinks that perverted sickos who make "crush videos" that show pets being tortured to death should be legal. That's one of the reasons why he lost his next election.
SHAME on the Libertarian Party for embracing such a depraved little worm!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Barr is a white supremacist and there's thousands of people here in Georgia who can attest firsthand to him being one. Either that or he didn't realize what group's meeting he was at.
Barr is right. Ever individual has a right to own and carry a gun. Every injustice in America is perpetuated by denying individuals their right to self-defense, under the law. Denial of gun rights was the first "Jim Crow" law in the south, and it remains as such in our inner cities, where blacks are seen by white liberals as second-class citizens. Noone is more racist than white liberals (or their college-indoctrinated black presidential candidates). Barr/Root in 2008, for gun rights!!!
What the hell...It looks like 8 million pages. Almost as many pages as that patriot ACT you voted for. What part of "shall not be infringed" do they not understand
In 1998, Barr gave the keynote speech at the national convention of the Council of Conservative Citizens; a hate group that routinely denigrated blacks as "genetically inferior," complained about "Jewish power brokers," called homosexuals "perverted sodomites," and accused immigrants of turning America into a "slimy brown mass of glop."
ummm you know hes a libertarian right? if not libertarian hes more republican than anything else, not liberal. if your going to spew political slander then try to know what your talking about.
Well what valid points do they have? Explain please, seeing how you know everything. Don't say national healthcare because that isn't panning out to well in Canada.
Barr is exactly correct. Pure genius. He is an educated man. He is the only candidate who opposes democide. Look it up. Barr believes in the right of poor blacks to defend themselves, unlike Obama's racist Dixiecrat "jim crow" ass... To "answer every question" about the 2nd amendment, go to secondamendmentdocumentaryDOTcom
Many raise the specter of Nuclear weapons not being imagined by the founding fathers and extend that automatic weapons shouldn't be protected under the second amendment. Whatever your belief remember that the rifle was the weapon of choice during the revolutionary war and was a terrifying instrument allowing the guerrilla war that gave us our independence. Assuming more destructive weapons couldn't be imagined by our forefathers then is foolhardy. It's the principle, not the scale that matters.
Jefferson wanted citizens to have weapons to fight tyranny in government. As the weapons of government become more lethal, so too ought the weapons of the citizen.
Of course, voting is not a right, and origilally voters were required to own land, which is something that needs to be required today, to stop the feeding frenzy of other people's money, and to remove from the voting list those who vote largess.
Actually, the founders answered the question of superior weapons in federalist #46. They stated that the citizen should be equal in power to the general infantry, since the citizen was the general infantry in any nation that didn't give too much power to the government. Federalist Paper #46. Barr is exactly right. He knows that the military can be used against the people, and wants to prevent it... He has truly grown up since his days in congress.. No contest between him and the mainstream
"I haven't had a chance to go through the whole thing..." You don't have to get a chance to go through the whole thing to see what it is of. It's not good. Washington D.C. is a district, not a state, therefore it should not get the same rights as a state would until it becomes an official state. Kneejerkreactions from the pro-gun crowd... very upsetting indeed!!!
What is destructive is anti-freedom advocates like yourself. The District of Columbia has no rights, the people who live there do. We have the right to bear arms because it is a natural right of self defese against criminals and tyrannical government. No man, government stooge or not, has the right to deny me my god given right to defend myself, my family and my friends from anyone who wishes to harm me or them. Where I live on a map does not change that. Never will. No matter what the feds say.
"I'm not sure if the founding fathers knew about nuclear fission. but if they did, i'm sure they'd disagree with you." James Madison answered questions of superior firepower (to that of a rifle) in Federalist Paper #46. It was not protected under the 2nd amendment, but the right of the common citizen to be equal to the infantryman was protected. In 2008 that means everything up to a grenade launcher, and a full-auto rifle, plus sawed-offs, sidearms, etc...
Interesting case--two years ago in Buffalo NY two kids with guns (ages 16 and 17) held a pizza delivery guy at gunpoint. The Pizza guy (around age 40) had a license to carry a concealed weapon. He actually shot and killed the 16 year old. The court let the pizza guy go free citing it was self-defense against a gun-carrying assailant.
My husband made an interesting comment in response to the article on CNN about this. Cities still have laws against discharging guns within city limits. So possession is protected but what about the right to discharge, especially in regards to protecting yourself and your property? That is still left to the local authorities.
Let us not forget that the 2nd amendment gives us the right to protect ourselves against the tyranny of the state and the population to defend itself against the standing army of the U.S. if it needed to. Read John Adams comments on 2nd amendment. He makes it very clear what the intention was.
Wrong. It pretty much specifically stops that one dead in its tracks. If a license is required, it must be obtainable, and may not be denied arbitrarily.
Next attack is on licensing itself. It wasn't an issue before the court in this case, as Heller only sued to be given a license, and didn't challenge the licensing itself.
Even though I detest guns and never plan to own one, I rest easy knowing that I have that right and that avenue open to me in case I change my mind. Bob Barr is wonderful and clear in his analysis of the DC gun ban case. He will surely make a great President.
The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for
traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. (a) The Amendment's prefatory clause announces a purpose, but does not limit or expand the scope of the second part, the operative clause. The operative clause's text and history demonstrate that it connotes an individual right to keep and bear arms.
The four judges that opposed the ruling are dishonest individuals and bring shame upon their position, themselves, and their country. It's not about being a conservative, or a liberal, or whatever you want to call yourself. It's about directly and correctly interpreting the meaning behind the second amendment. It says what it says, it means what it says, and there's hundreds of years of history to back it up. 'Collective right theory' is an invention of the late 20th century, devil knows why.
I this guy doesn't understand purpose and goal of our founding, nobody does. This man should be our next president. McCain is just a spoiler. Obama, well, remember Carter? There you go: Bush vs Carter. Nothing new under the sun. :{)
Bob Barr may not be a Ron Paul...but he and Chuck Baldwin have brains...I will vote for him because he's the most likely of the two to cause McCain's defeat and set the GOP up for a Libertarian revolt within in 2012....
That's a good point. This election reminds me of 1976, and as I said, Obama is Carter. He may win, but a limited government candidate may win in 2012.
A very eloquent statement by Bob Barr. The ruling doesn't include anything about the government licensing. They can still force you to get a license in states like NJ and NY.
McCain has not been the solid 2nd amendment supporter he would like you to believe he is.
Reflect on the barely passing "C" grade from the NRA in his last senate run in 04', the "F" grade the Gun Owners of America gives him today, the work he did in 2000 with Americans for Gun Safety, an anti-gun group with a deceiving name, and you get a very different picture than the one he wants us to see.
I too am happy about the Heller ruling. FURTHERMORE I have compiled some great info about: Gun Rights – Gun History – Gun Facts.

Im overjoyed right along with you Bob!
Bob Barr deserves the NRA's endorsement.

May we NEVER forget the men who fought at the Alamo. May we never forget those who died at Normandy. They DIED to give us these rights!
Like Reagan said, this thing freedom is not passed throught the bloodline or by stories; it must be fought for everyday.
Remember: Tyranny does not sleep, but it is up to good men to keep it in it's place!

Everyone should have realized that the 2nd Adm applied to individual citizens. Show me one government on earth that does not have a armed force.

I am pleased with the decision but I am appalled that four justices opposed the ruling.

This is great news, but in a way it's sad that the Court even had to hear a case like this. For so many of us, the issue is a no-brainer.
In any case, now is not the time to get complacent. To find out why, go to lewrockwell(.)com and read the blog post entitled The Great Gun Decision.
