  • .This was absolutely wonderful. I hate to work on, or even use stuff that I don't understand. I didn't even install the CMC PT-35 that came with a used motor I bought, as I didn't understand the wiring. I couldn't figure out how two wires going to the motor and controlled by a two way toggle could make the motor run both ways. Essentially, I couldn't figure out how the ground could change. I now know enough about it to troubleshoot the thing if it malfunctions. I've now installed the PT35

  • Even if the relays both click, you should test the motor directly as follows because sometimes the relays don't pass enough current due to corrosion on the terminals or contacts.

To test the motor itself, just find the two heavy gauge wires that lead to the tilt pump motor. On Mercury's one should be green and the other blue. You will probably be able to find quick disconnect "bullet" plugs. Connect either one to +12V and the other to ground. Reverse them to change motor tilt direction.

  • excellent info, I can hear both my relays click but have no movement. I'm guessing it's the trim motor will have to do the motor test.
