- The huge deficits we have seen in 2009 and 2010 would be about the same even if McCain would have won. The deficits are the result of lower tax revenue (from the recession), unpaid for wars, lost industrial capacity and export income in the age of "the service economy", Bush tax cuts, and the aging population. These factors wold have left McCain with a similar deficit..but the reps don't want you to think about that.

Only 47.6% of people ages 16 to 24 had jobs in August, the lowest level since the government began keeping track in 1948, the Labor Department said Friday. By comparison, 62.8% of that age group was employed in August 2000.

The roots of the crash go back way before Obama.
Deregulation of banking created bad loans, bundling loans into securities, & heavy leverage of those securities (illegal before 99). The bill that did this was introduced in the Senate by Phil Gramm (R-Texas) and in the House by by Jim Leach (R-Iowa) in1999. It was passed by a Repub majority, along party lines 54–44 in the Senate and a 343–86 vote in the House .

@Standonarock Bush spent most of his time in office on vacation. Obama has been in office a little over a year and a half. The first year in office the GDP did drop a bit. It seems like every conservative I see complaining about Obama keeps talking about spending and him destroying the economy. I have to wonder how many of these people really understand macroeconomics to a degree that they can make these accusations with certainty and ability to back them up.

There was no net growth in the economy when the wealthy got tax breaks. There was growth in the financial sector but it evaporated.The wealthy DID NOT invest in American jobs...they invested in offshore production and phony financial instruments while govt. borrowed money to give them a break.

- The huge deficits we have seen in 2009 and 2010 would be about the same even if McCain would have won. The deficits are the result of lower tax revenue (from the recession), unpaid for wars, lost industrial capacity and export income in the age of "the service economy", Bush tax cuts, and the aging population. These factors wold have left McCain with a similar deficit..but the reps don't want you to think about that.

@givethemahand Only 130 Billion was spent on the wars not even a 10th of the debt of last 1.4 Trillian. I heard a stat somewhere that the US has only borrowed 9 Trillion dollars from the time of Washington until Obama took and Obama has borrowed 3.5 trillion in his first year in office.
