  • hey, so how can i watch the rest of this video?

    --mien love!

  • if you would like to watch the full movie online please contact me. i tried putting the site address up here but was not able to?

  • @joneysnai hey man I'd love to know where to watch the rest of this.

  • how did your dad lose his "magic"? a lot of hmong shamans, before coming to america, sent their shaman spirits away before coming here. when they got here, and got ill, they then had to call these shaman spirits back. this prologue is one that resonates in all the ethnic groups dislocated during the greater vietnam war. i'd like to see the rest of it.

  • This country will destroy Hmong and Mien culture. This country has always destroy cultures. Just like the Native Indians, European, Africans, and others. Somehow, we have to evolve and adopt new cultures to survive. Maybe it's just a process of evolving. Best of luck friends.

  • @Robertamissoniluv Agreed! America pretends to be a melting pot and realizing we must be a salad bowl and learn tolerance....America continues to be least tolerant and has caused for the demolition of many cultures...I almost want to say all cultures that have arrived upon it's shore.

If it makes u feel any better iam a shaman myself...we can never live a normal life, our destinies are bound by fate...we either live happy or cursed...a duty we must fulfill...i understand ur pain...but understand one thing.. ur father is a warrior of the spirit world if no one respects and apreciate him no more then the heaven will take him back he was a shaman in his last life and he will alway be even in the next...

  • love the movie, saw in class. your father will be proud of you. powerful. im the 2nd generation of my immigrant family, i can feel you, i know how you feel. thanks for sharing, love you retraced your true identity 5/5

  • What a truly beautiful story. I think her father would be proud.

  • She said in the begining of the video "WE THE PEOPLE" to be exact" IU MIEN"not hmong. Thank you

  • IU MIEN and Hmong are in the same part of the same path . They are all similar in the same way. But they are are two different group of people. But we are as ONE...

  • are these hmong people?

  • hmong thai to be exact

  • hmong people are hmong people, a different tribe from mien people. both are tribes all around southeast Asia. they aint the same. im hmong and marry a mien dude so i know the diff.

  • finally a mien documentary! im mien too

  • this was a good documentary but there are some parts that are not factual. she says that we have "never had a nation". We in fact did. Mien people were not always nomadic. Prior to the unification and

  • 177.1.3.17 Pryde

  • saelaw pride =]

  • I have this film it's very touching I cried a few times watching it.

We practice TAOISM therefore we do Taoist ritual thing. Every young Mien generations have a hard time explaining it to others what is our ritual? Shaman? buddha thing? yeah, but what really called? Shaman sounds bad, we should say it TAOIST RITUAL instead.

  • WOW!!

    FINALLY

    im mien too btw

    a movie about our heritage

  • I am very proud of my sister for producing this documentary! It really gives other Mienh people and people from other races insight on what it really does mean to be Mienh!

  • yes, I think I met your sister Fahm before, at church, coming to the US was like a investment your parents and my parents made, while they struggle now it is our chance to make life easier for them, buy achieving higher education we build pride for our culture.... that was a great documentary video, my classmates long with the teachers thought it as very inspirational for us

  • I just caught the last half of that documentary. It was well done and i hope I can catch the rest later. How is your family doing? And are you still all in Sacremento?

  • theres nothing more jen bet ppl want more then to see other racial people fighting. society makes us fight. instead of working together wer yelling fighting and kiling one another. didnt we get along in laos? why are we fighting now?

  • this movie seems interesting, ive been looking for history about mien people and this might help

  • Seriously, I'm Mien and know a whole lot of Hmong people and neither is smarter or dumber than the other. Both groups have cultural and religious differences and similarities just like any other two peoples. To those people pulling out all that racial bullshit to Miens AND Hmongs get that crap out of here. Stop instigating and get a fucking life.

  • @nogood510 Why is there even a competition about this? why even a topic of discussion? Does it even matter? Why not a discussion of how we can unite to make life better for both ethnicities who have been subjected to oppression? Why is it important who is smarter and who is not? Someone is smarter and someone is less in every and any race. Teach tolerance in all forms as we learn to become a better person in spite of our name or ethnicity...

  • WOW! So much hate going around! Come on people. lets stop this! Mien or Hmong, we need to be together! Spread some love. Instead of thinking about who is more successful or better, just remember that our families all fought with the CIA and got screwed up by the communist! We have all been through similar hardships, from the travel of Asia to the U.S.! The person who made this documentary is a dear friend, and I know her well to know that this documentary was made to UNITE us, not divide!

  • Hmong/Miao and the Mien are from the very same family. Spread love, not hate.

  • LOST HIS POWERS, HIS CHILD, HIS RELIGION... these are the real tests of a real shaman and if you don't pass them your life is taken. I have passed my 8 death initiations as a real shaman. I am sorry for your loss.

  • hmong and mien need too stop talking shit about 1 another. we all are borther and sister. came from the same place. where ever hmong go mien will alway be there with us.

  • Who care's Hmong or Mien. We all don't have a country. So stop complaining about this crap. Ignorant kids. Thats why Hmong people can't get along and keep categorizing each other. DUMBASSES! That's how we got our asses hammered in our history. Because you guys keep complaining whos who and do nothing, bitchs! Xyooj Tsab Mem is the

  • dude speak english...

  • only guy who ever did anything in the Hmong/Maio histories in china. You should research him. I give him respect out of all the other Hmong people who ran away to Vietnam and Laos that were to afraid to die during 1700s-1800s. They didnt bother to help fight for what was right. My family history came to Laos from China in 1943. And my grandparents and great grandparents went through it all they fought and saw the war with the Chinese between the Hmong! Quite hating shelter Hmong kids.

  • The Hmong fled to Laos, but you don't think they've seen their share of war and bloodshed? 1943? That's around the time most Hmong migrated to Laos. Who are you to stand so tall and belittle other Hmong? You will probably find very few Hmong who were in Laos in the 1700-1800s . You probably didn't do your homework.

  • why is everyone fighting?

cant we all get along doods and dude ets?

    hahaha

  • There are literally millions of Mienh People living in China today. We celebrate our culture every year in China. People from all over the world come to see it. China has allowed the Mienh people to represent their culture. I have 2 videos of the ceremony. Literally thousands of Mienh People participate in this celebration. The jobs here America. I work as a Accountant/auditor. Know your history. There are more Mienh people living in China than Thailand and Laos

  • Mienh people are the Yaos and the Hmong people are Miaos. They are two different ethnic groups and different culture. Clothes are similar, but languages are spoken different. I am 35 years old. I am 75% Mienh and 25% Mandrin. I realize the Mandrin is closer to the Mienh people than ever. History of course. The Mienh people were suppose to have their own country and nation. China disagreed and drove the Mienh down South. Fled to Thailand and Laos.

  • You all should be banned for talking like that. Ethnocentrism doesn't usually benefit these sort of topic.

    Keep that in mind folks

  • fuck you stevenxiong209...atleast i got a mom thats not a hoe like yours nigga haha...yo mom pussy prolly hella loose from having alot of your brothers and sisters...so dont try to talk shit nigga just go eat your rice and water or go fuck your cousin like all hmong people do ight.

  • My granfather was a shaman.my grandma had powers also.they gave it up 2 be christian.they never told me about it i found out myself.i am trying too learn how to be a women shaman. i am half viet my viet friend told me that viet ppl thought mienh were using black magic so they killed us.because they thought we were trying too kill them.

  • I'm sad they converted. I think people are misled sometimes. Nice you want to be a shaman, but it's not learned behavior. You have to be destined and unless you are, I don't think you can learn to be one. But you can practice some methods that do not require the shamanic spirits.

  • i am mein my dad is a shawman two my mom told me that two of my uncles were killed my the veitnam when they were only 12 and 13 my mom and aunt went out to look for them but they couldnt find them. so they new the veitnam killed them my mom and dad and brother had to walk through loas and thailand to come to america and in thailand my sister was born every body else was born in america like me. but my moms brother is still there and he send us things. i really wish i could meet him

  • my mom and dad had to go through the smae thing but they were in loas and my my dad as in the veitnam war

  • very nice

  • is this a sneak peak of a upcoming video/movie?

  • wow Holy shit i havn't seen mein people for a while, well i only met one mein/hmong kid in middle school, not a big population of meins, my parents told me that meins are like hmong peoples.

  • I think all Southeast Asians have similarities and differences. We are all very unique in this day and age, culture, beliefs etc....manners...but that's not to say that we didn't have a common ancestor.

  • for the land of the freeeee.... and the home... of the... brave!

  • good story..>!

  • if you compare last names though hmong and mienh are similar. i guarantee we both come from the same back ground or at one point the same fathers. even the chinese share the same last names as us. i remember reading something about the hans and the different groups there were. i believe the hmongs were part of that group that i read, but i may be wrong. i do some research from time to time. i love finding history about the hmong.

  • fuck that mien people were never realted to hmongs hmong people nothing like us they hella short temper and are hella stupid

  • really! how long have the mien people been in the U.S. and what field of jobs are the mien people working in? the hmongs have been here less than 30 years and work in almost every type of job. we're smarter than you think. you're stupid because you don't know what you're talking about. only say what you want to hear.

  • man fuck u KACKAZN wat the hell did hmong people did to u dawg, back in the day hmong people also believe that mien do black magic. we're smarter than ur ass, luexiong had a point, only 30 years and already achieve most jobs. REMEMBER that MIEN CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT HMONGS!

  • fuck u....lolz...joe mama...kiss my hmong ass you flea. ani't got enough mien to go around.

  • shut your rasist mouth you cok-biting-super-cunting hoe

  • you say i don't know what i'm talking about ,but calling an ethnic group "some fucking fleas" and using the word "nigga" sounds rasist to me

  • Oh hell no! fuck u whoever u are....watever racist u are..u know nothing about hmong cultures and history...fuck u bitch!!

  • I don't understand how arguements like these start from videos like this. She's trying to explain a story and you guys say stuff like this. I'm hmong and I have lots of mien friends. Our culture, our beliefs, and our clothing are similar so my Mien buddies are like brothers and sisters to me.

  • The fuck do u know about hmongs asshole...get ur story righst cause i know u aint hmong...u know shit about hmong bitch!

  • and also Miens have their own goods.

  • and are you any of those yourself?

  • All human beings have a common ancestor. AFter that, all Anglos are related, all Asians are related, all Africans are related....all Middle Easterns are related....and if you want to get more specific than that....I am sure there is a common grandfather somewhere....but what does it matter? Is one group really better than the other? Why even try to make such an argument?

  • you can get the video from amazon, borders, target, wherever. Just order from online because they do not stock them in stores.

  • I actually know her through a good friend of mine, and she speaks mien; She's not Hmong.

  • OK!! Everyone...someone has got to let me know where I can purchase the videos...Hello?!

  • You can purchase this on the PBS site.

  • SHES MIEN! gezzz its not like people go around and say chinese are japanese, russians are white..... mien and hmong are different, they share the same journey as they TOO were kicked out of china!!! TWO DIFFERNET ETHNICITIES!!

  • ummm I don't even think she's hmong..she looked like those people that I remember seeing back in watcha ma call it town. I think she's coog..becuase of the clothes her family wear. Not sure how you spell their cultural but I think u all should know.

  • i did my research base on books, website, event, part of South East Asia Resaerch foundation. personally travel back to Thailand, Laos, and China to experience and to understand diffrent cultural. i just want to make that clear to the people who dont know about both Mien and Hmong people.

  • sorry to disappoint few of you but, Mien IS not Hmong. both may have alot in common such as their trdition, clothing, ceramony, the the road to America but they are not same ethnicity. language are different, cultural are different and etc..

  • It's certainly not hard to recognize these factors, and thank you for clarifying. I don't even know how the topic of these (2) groups even started but I suppose that out of respect towards the 2 groups, we leave this subject out of the picture; not unless it's actually really relevant or appropriate.

  • yes please do.

  • Mien is Hmong! Hmong and Mien are brothers and apart of the bigger story of Miao. Gosh, please do your homework, I know I did. Looks like you have no idea about the Hmong people's past.

  • Hhhmm, interesting perspective. It's nice to know people who share such similar grounds as ourselves, indeed. But there are definitely things that do separate these (2) distinct groups; whether if they came from the same stock or not. And in respect towards the Mienh-Community the Yao history has an in depth history and a "big" picture as well.

  • Wow I am impressed with your knowledge. So have you watched Death of a Shaman? And if so, have you watched Moving Mountains??

  • If you're talking to me, I have viewed both of these films and I do personally own Death of a Shaman, and have viewed Moving Mountains quite frequently. They are both very well-presented films and I do highly suggest that all Mienh watch or own them.

  • Plus by your name, you should mention that you are Mienh too.

  • much love and respect to my peoples!

  • You guys sound like the

    hmong ppl too

  • can somebody let me knoe where i can find this. It seems interesting, want to watch it.

  • Mien are not Hmong. Mien are Yao while Hmong are Miao. They are two completely different ethnic groups however they share many similar thing in common like history...

  • aint mien jus lost n never found HMONG...

  • No, Hmong are just Mienh rejects.

  • i'm mienh but i sure do not reject any culture, and i sure got love for all cultures and ethnicity.

  • Yeah, so do I, but I just don't like hearing something like that..

  • I totally recommend this any one who is interested in any general history. Its a great piece to have and especially for all Mienh-Americans. It's something to sit down and watch and acknowledge your own history in the making. Very touching btw, also a tear-jerker. And Fahm Saeyang did an outstanding job.

  • I have has this movie, it was very goo i like it.

  • i've seen this before it was on tv.. its was on the PBS channel. its was surprising to see mien people on tv..this came out long time ago 3-4 years ago

  • this is a preview of the movie.

  • is there a movie for this?..im mien.. and this seems intresting ...
