  • I can imagine Fripp practicing everyday in his room as a little kid

  • There is nothing like this !!!

    Insanely tight.

  • This is perhaps the finest sheer instrumental piece by KC....

I remember a recounting of the first time Greg Lake and Robert Fripp met... (they would play on the 1st and 2nd albums together), and Greg didn't quite know this [as if I am recollecting accurately...], but he (Greg) being a guitar player, thought it might be a nice thing to shortly illustrate some techniques to Robert... he didn't realize this, but he would later learn he then talking to one of the finest guitarists in rock history

  • first word that came in my mind was "tool"... is it normal?

  • @mariorossipuzza Yeah, so normal, HAHAHAHAHA

  • @vitorsilighini And you are laughing because?

  • Comment removed

  • me too!?

  • My new inspiration!

  • Schism!!!

  • Japan with mr Sylvian must have been listening to this a lot..and I think even Paul Simon have been influenced from this music..mr Fripp has certainly influenced modern music.

  • how the ass do you play something like this live......

  • .....

    watch?v=O072fM-_XTY&list=UUGlm29GX_3Ph8BWwgSCQFAQ&index=11&feature=plcp

  • I can really hear how Tool have been influenced by them.

  • Remind me to Vicarious by Tool... a bit.

  • Blastphamy, King Crimson is influenced by Tool!

  • @goodnamepending Tool is a blasphemy!

  • @goodnamepending tool is a band formed in the 90's, this album is from 1981.

  • @DrProgressiveRock I know that but the guitar player for KC said that he hears more tool influence in KC than KC influence in tool. Just comming from one of the bands members i find it funny.

  • @goodnamepending You know NOTHING!

  • @goodnamepending that is legitimate blasphemy in the name of prog rock.

  • @goodnamepending No. Look at the dates. Other way around.

  • @KarateMastR57 Don't you say?

  • Tool is heavily influenced by KC

  • use the other finger

  • @davidp3mill sorry wrong clip

  • this sounds a bit like tool

  • @jcast18k It's funny you say that. Years ago my older brother turned me onto King Crimson and recently told me that Tool very much reminded him of this period of King Crimson.

  • Very expanding, cerebral music ~ excellent for creative endeavors! :^D

  • this reminds me of between the buried and me swim to the moon for some odd reason

  • OK, I'll admit that I'll catch some flak for this but here goes....I was exposed to King Crimson when I was a teenager and it certainly wasn't cool among the popular music crowd. I didn't care though because being different I already had the attitude of "who cares what everyone else thinks." That attitude, in turn, allows me to also like present artists like Skrillex.

  • @Mendrys everyone likes Skrillex though.....

  • CHUNE!!

  • this is pretty sick

  • this song is so complex that it's simple

  • this is really something to listen to when you're high

  • @0xlAFSftwlx0 Or sober... music is a drug of it's own. But I agree with you

  • @0xlAFSftwlx0 i listened to frame by frame, and that has the same album cover as discipline. i swear, that picture started spinning like a wheel at thousands of miles per hour

  • I agree with this ...

  • @0xlAFSftwlx0

    ..or blue..

  • @Syntpop Or fucking normal.

  • @0xlAFSftwlx0 Causes paradigm shifts all by itself, as does the Sheltering Sky. : )

  • "Discipline" is what you need to learn how to play this song.

  • how and where would you even begin to attempt to draw such an intricate circle?

  • FRIPP; YOU GENIOUS OF GENIOUSES!

  • Thank you danny for showing me KC!

  • Oh by the way I saw King Crimson in 1981 at the El Macombo in Toronto. It was there very first show ( I mean their very first) under the new configuration with Tony Levin and Adrian Belew. I was standing right at the front of the stage for the encore. The stage was a 1 1/2 feet off the ground. I could have knocked over Adrian Belews guitar stand with my hand.

  • @avalanche344 What did they call themselves at that show? I ask because they did a preview show as "Discipline" (not King Crimson) in Bath, England. Again, a very small venue and the audience were near the band before and during the show. A great line up and a great album.

  • @patdknight They were billed as King Crimson. The very next night they played at the Masonic Temple in Toronto. I was at that show as well. That night they did two shows back to back. The El Macombo show the previous night was for industry people pretty much exclusively. The reason that I was there is because my friend won tickets from a radio station. We were pretty lucky!

  • Danny Carey brought me here

  • @suttonkid1

    ahahahaha me too

  • @suttonkid1

    from the last video right??

    Me too!

  • @1y9b9b haha yup

  • @suttonkid1 me too, love that man!

  • @suttonkid1 how ?

  • ♪♫♥²↑⁀⁀☼ ;-j

  • q rica fusion!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ fc2122: I was bored. It happens sometimes.

  • The perfect ringtone [0:00-0:10] Have been using it for 3 years now.

  • fripp fripp fripp fripp....forever and only robert fripp

  • older tool

  • other special instrumental and global sound by king crimson I'll repeat for this rhings that i like instrumental songs ...

  • King Crimson's music, especially the era of the 80's is very similar to mathematical equations, you listen first, then rationalize, and ultimately you enjoy the music after arduous study.

  • Un incubo.

  • wow this is the str8 goods

  • When Robert Fripp grabs a hold of music, the whole world changes. There is nobody like him and he cannot be compared to anyone. Steven Wilson is right there too.

  • I can't believe all you people are bothering to argue over stuff like this when there is so much good music nowadays like Rebecca Black.

  • go and listen to : The Mahavishnu Orchestra's : One Word ! it's a great song, and the last 2 minutes are simply incredible. In my 53 y.o. opinion !

  • @dougjohnsonism Yes! My stand-out song on that album is definitely One Word!

  • @jaspernb You are the reason that people call progressive rock fans self-indulgent.

  • @jaspernb We all know you want to show off your superior intellect, but please stop. If Georgios is being serious, alright, he has his own opinions. If not, well, you know, the more you feed the trolls, the hungrier they get.

  • My ears just came. Twice.

  • @jaspernb derp

  • If you like this, you should try to listen to Steve Reich's "Electric Counterpoint III".

His music truly influenced Fripp's songwritting!

  • @jaspernb why do you care, do u think king crimson or whoever else you listen to would want you to be telling someone what to think and do like a dictator. just because he has an opinion doesnt mean it deserves your attention.

  • Brilliant structure and perfect performance.

  • Pink Floyd and King Crimson fucked while listening to AC/DC and gave birth to Tool.....nuff said.

  • This would have been great in a longer song. Yes and Genesis would have rewarded the listener with a return to a pre-established melody and an epic finale. This is just musical rambling.

  • All though there are some great rhythm and syncopation ideas in this I wouldn't really call this a song. It has no melody or structure. it seems like it would have been better as a passage in a longer more complete song instead of by itself like this.

Inb4 fanboys, you can't have your own opinion, etc.

  • Boring and repetitive? Are you deaf?

  • What's so good about this? They are just a repetitive funk band with no melody!

  • Amazing and unqiue. The two words that best describes King Crimson and their timeless music.

  • @FunkMastaMegaFlex Boring and repetitive is the best way to describe this song!

  • We all must appreciate the differences in music. Imagine what life would be like if it all sounded the same.

  • Pink Floyd had a more personal worldview that they shared in their lyrics - King Crimson was more abstract in their compositions - both great in their own way

  • WHY COMPARE THE TWO BANDS ENJOY THE DIFFERENCES

  • What a tuneless, repetitive, godawful "song". Sorry to say this, but this is boring as hell!

  • I don't know why, but this song reminds me of gears of a big clock working

  • This is probably the worst 80's bad ever! Gary Numan and Duran Duran were much better!

  • @MrGeorgios2020 Fuck off troll.

  • @MrGeorgios2020 King Crimson is mostly about interesting riffs and the complicated using of temps. They don´t give a fuck about being catchy. They don´t try to apeal the masses.King Crimson is not an 80´s band you ignorant, they were formed during the 60´s. DD and Gary are good, but their music is an 80´s cliché, 1,000 ARTISTS DID SOMETHING SIMILAR BACK THEN. Your life is what`s boring as hell, you´ve been trolling since 2 days ago, and you kept coming. What a loser.

  • @MrGeorgios2020 Troll.

  • @MrGeorgios2020 If you hate this song so much, then why are you listening to it? :/

  • this pink floyd versusery is silly.. it's just a few musicians with similar interests.. I get a talking heads rhythmic drive vibe from Crimson, but more of an emotional grooving with pink floyd..they are not the same, but peple like to classify everything as they all want to be known for their views, like me right now, and take away from this fun tune that grooved me out for a solid 5.. thank you King Crimson

  • I prefer that good king. King Crimson

  • don't compare bands like that. they just happen to have the same stupid label people feel the need to put on everything. both bands are really great.

  • I think that Crim is far more interesting than Floyd. Floyd in the later period was mostly a vehicle for Roger Waters to channel his own frustrations and traumas, whereas King Crimson has always been about the pure music. Pink Floyd never explored african polyrythms, as the Crim did on Discipline, for example.

  • Can't compare nothing with floyd, cause pink floyd was extraordinary, unique band. They were like the dark side of the moon..

  • the beginning riff sound like TOOLs vicorious

  • @space78511

King Crimson and Tool have worked together numerous times actually. You should check them doing songs from Crimson's The Power To Believe together.

  • @Grahamx227 I am not surpised they worked together. Both bands are boring and their "songs" have no melody!!! I would say Tool are slightly worse. I saw them live and they bored me to death. As for this song, its simply awful!

  • @MrGeorgios2020

It seems you have no taste or appreciation for finer music sir.

  • @Grahamx227 You call this fine music? It is all in one key! Have a listen to some Ted Nugent!

  • @MrGeorgios2020 Ted Nugent is a smelly old man

  • @MrGeorgios2020 Most music is one key. There's nothing particularly inventive about changing key within a song.

  • @space78511 Other way around, dude.

  • Wow, just amazing

  • @Rejito You call this amazing? This is so damn boring. Not catchy in the slightest.

  • Robert Fripp is a genious! The best guitarist of progressive rock?

  • that is a trippy ass cover. the symbol is all one segment!!!

  • Who's Pink Floyd?

  • @freakinchrist *facepalm*

  • Is it just me or you can instantly hear where Vicariuos from Tool....

  • Comment removed

  • @picajoool yup, that's vicarious right there:P

  • Okay, could we all stop arguing about King Crimson and Pink Floyd. We all like what we like. End of story. Let's all pretend we're no longer in junior high school, as in "I'm better than you 'cause I listen to cooler music than you". Enough already.

  • @shmaggeggi You sound really smart and practical. What are you doing leaving comments on youtube?

  • @shmaggeggi This is actually totally hilarious for me. I am 49 years old and a huge Floyd and Crimson fan. Back the early 80's my buddies and I used to engage in the same debate Floyd/Crimson. Years later we would all admit how ludicrous a debate it was . Two brilliant bands, I guess, is the bottom line!! Keep debating though 'cause its fun, ain't it!

  • @shmaggeggi no competition. We should not argue about what turns us on. Just be glad its there.

  • @shmaggeggi It's not a competition right

  • @shmaggeggi I just happen to like that King Crimson know how to play their instruments properly.

  • @ProLogikalTao I'm more impressed that they're also able to play their instrument IMproperly

    ...and make it WORK.

  • when you try to follow this music along it gets really tiring, when you let your mind go away and leave the music as a background it surprisingly becomes not only pleasant but also dominant!

  • @fryBASS: Yeah, so did I until I saw it live back in '84 (or was it '85?). Still, an amazing song.

  • King Crimson is Pink Floyd's cousin........thats the only comparison you need

  • The drums are extremely subtle here....they way he holds back is absolutely amazing - he lets it loose just for a minute. Incredible artistry. Less isn't always more, but here it is.

  • I've found it interesting that there are those posting Robert's guitar part, or Adrian's guitar part, but I haven't seen Tony's 5 string fretless bass part. Anyway, I love this song. More regimented than Vivaldi, I grant you. I love it anyway.

  • @shmaggeggi I always thought it was on the stick...

  • @shmaggeggi : Not sure, but I think the 'bass' on this instrumental was played on Chapman Stick, through the 'patch of shades'. ...just tried to find a Stick on ebay for myself, and 27 years later, one still can't purchase one for less than about $1500. Then... there's the learning curve. In my opinion, Tony Levin was a Master of the Chapman Stick almost to the same extent as Emmett Chapman was. While we're at it, is Tony still touring with Peter Gabriel these days?? Just wondering.

  • @zeg0ggles and sm dream theatre lol

  • o jezu, co ty robisz łukasz?

  • very wonderful!!!

  • What? No keyboards? No like

  • I don't pit King Crimson and Pink Floyd against each other. They're like two sides of the same coin

  • @TheGreaterGood80 They are the two sides of the moon

  • @TheGreaterGood80 They are the two sides of the moon

  • @TheGreaterGood80 Pink Floyd is pretty cool. They are different but King Crimson is a band that really created a genre and brought fourth a style of music that had never been! Blues with psychodelic rock is floyd, King Crimson on the other hand created something really ground breaking and original with their music. They are both great bands that is also true.

  • @TheGreaterGood80

No. King Crimson and Pink Floyd aren't two sides of the same coin. They're two completely different currencies. It detracts from the inherent value of each. Stop arguing.

  • Keep Pink Floys and give me King Crimson!

  • Complex, groovy/funky, it's like progressive porn music. And that's fantastic.

  • Radio BUAP 96.9? =s

  • reminds alot of steve reich pieces

  • Organized chaos. I love it. Saw them several times in So-Cal in the Fripp, Belew, Bruford, Levin line-up. Nothing short of amazing. Good old days . . .

And they sounded as good live as recorded.

  • this song highly influenced Danny Carey from Tool

  • @Balmucho Did you watch that tool video with Danny Carey talking about king crimson poly-rhythms? In my eyes it seem king crimson is where Tool get the inspiration for blood curdling melodies and overall powerful harmony.

  • @yogeesunshine perfect deduction!!danny carey and tool too look at king crimson like a student look at the his professor.....robert fripp and his band just RULES!!!

from an hard tool fan (and crimson's too!)

  • this. song. is. awesome. like a combination of floyd and yes.

  • @Interst890 sorry mate, but King Crimson have always been way ahead of them, in terms of both creativity and skills

  • @LuzifersGhilom sure, i never said that floyd or yes was better than crimson, but since they're all prog bands that evolved into new wave in the late 70's/early 80's you cant deny that they sometimes sounded somewhat similar.

  • @Interst890 well, saying that some band sounds like combination of two others implies some kind of inferiority of the band. Anyway, I see what you mean, greetings :)

  • @Interst890 King crimson has a very distinctive sound. I love pink floyd, but it's undeniable that in terms of musicality King crimson makes much "richer" music. They incorporate a great number of genres into rock, from the balinese gamelan and classical music to drum n' bass and electronic music.

King crimson is an incredible band.

  • @OkamotoSan yes, i'm with ya there...especially in terms of musicianship, where 'crimson was lightyears ahead of floyd. they were both highly experimental- floyd mainly with electronics, crimson with styles. due to king crimson's lineup changes over the years, they have experimented with a vairety of styles from time to time, some of which are sound "schemes" that sound similar to 'floyd. basically, what i'm saying, floyd sounds like only a very small part of king crimson's overall repitoire.

  • @LuzifersGhilom

We all like to wish some times. Don't feel bad.

  • @Interst890 haha floyd no where near as skilled as crimson...these guys are hands down the worlds best band from an out there creative perspective...these guys were metal even before the word metal

  • @noobovic whoa slow down, i never said that floyd was BETTER...I just don't think that anyone can deny that floyd and crimson shared some of the same musical characteristics, especially towards the end of the 70's as prog rock began to die...

  • pure sci-fi

  • this is a hell of inspiration... is more than influence... good job on catching it danny! i dont imagine tool without it...

  • yeah,,,setting a new standard...

  • It's simply unbelievable.

  • extraterrestrially good

  • If only Pink Floyd could have done something of this quality.

  • @Kevin6334 pfffffft

  • @Kevin6334 no big argument.......with all due respect..........i don't think, in terms of pure musicianship, you could compare pink floyd (with all of their achievements) with this version of king crimson.

  • @Kevin6334

Pink Floyd are a great band, and are probably more consistent, but anyone who knows what they are talking about would admit that Crimson wrote songs that sound like they are "ment to be".
