I respectfully disagree with Dan Rather. I think Obama could sell watermelons and frankly that is what he is qualified to do. He was never in the military, never served the country, has no executive experience, has been on some government dole his whole life with a one year stint in the real world, which he couldn't handle! Since MG can't wipe out a large city and millions of people instantly, cause a fallout that irradiates the ground for hundreds of miles for potentially thousands of years, cause people outside people outside the effective killing range to die within 3-8 weeks because of said fallout, and result in a generation's tendency towards deformities, disorders, cancers, ect, that could very well kill them several years weeks after surviving the blast in the first place, no I don't consider it a WMD.

He's saying that Obama couldn't sell watermelons is an argument that's going to be used against him. It's a very poor choice of words and Rather shouldn't have used the word watermelons.
What is racist was when Rather said Obama is articulate. Nobody seems to notice that, everyone focuses on the watermelons.

President Obama, like many other of our elected officials, whether they be white, black, orange, blue, purple, etc., promise things to the american people that they cannot deliver. Simple as that. I don't think it was racial at all. He was simply saying an "old" saying: "He couldn't sell watermelons on a hot summer day on the side of the road". My Father said that a few times, meaning, he's not a good sales person, and this was pertaining to the American public on the Obama's health-care bill. Remember, Rathner is well over 70 now, and certain sayings' are different today then in the past. Ease up on him.

I don't understand why the mere mention of watermelon or chicken for that matter is considered insulting or degrading to black people. How or why are these two food items associated with being black in the first place?
It makes no sense at all, especially considering that people of all races enjoy these same foods. Whites, Asians, Hispanics, Jews... all frequent restaurants that sell chicken i.e., KFC. They also buy tons of watermelon around the globe.

They wish to destroy and subjugate conservative/libertarian alternatives that have sprung up in ever-multiplying numbers over time. They detest competition, as well as being shown how it's done by people they view as upstarts. Very true. Their ratings are down to a few dozen people a night and they can't seem to grasp why. If they moved toward even a semblance of balance and open discussion they'd fare better, but that would be like asking the 'New York Times' or PBS to practice objectivity. They are caught up in this sick cult of worship for a man who is barely average in intelligence and devoid of any ability beyond parroting rote demagoguery from a Teleprompter. Cults of personality do NOT belong in US politics.
