I didn't like the ending. It seems false. The more logical answer to why Eunice married Ed seems simply she wanted to get out of her mother's house... which, knowing this family, makes all the sense of the world and is in character and is totally believable. Eunice, for her flaws, always seemed to be very knowledgeable. At least enough to know no one would believe they married for love if she got married and had a baby within 8 months.
I find the show especially the Eunice clips along with the sit com very sad. The constant endless petty bickering back and forth. Carol said Eunice and Momma where based on her own family? Then she has said that both her mother and father where alcoholics and verbally abusive. read the book "Toxic Parents" by Dr. Donna Forward
That doesn't necessarily mean Eunice was Thelma's firstborn. Ellen may have been with another man who refused to marry Thelma, so Thelma married up with Carl because HE would marry her -- even "in her condition".
@SpankRamen2 - The Mama's Family sketches only had five children of Thelma Harper: Mary Ellen, Eunice, Phillip (Roddy MCDowell), Jack (Tommy Smothers), and Larry (Alan Alda). Vinton Harper was created for the sitcom. He was not in the original line of Harper children on the show. Eunice had two boys, Bubba and Raymond, but in the sketch with Maggie Smith, Bubba's brother was Billy Joe. Note: only 1 child connects Carl Harper as their father - Eunice.
Well, I'm left sctarching my head. I wasn't born until the 80's, so all I really know is the sitcom. I didn't know there was a Phillip, Jack, or Larry (played by Alan Alda? Really?). Guess I just got educated!
The only people who could ever clear things up would be the writers of this sketch!
@SpankRamen2 LOL! Right, the writers can clear this up, but we get a picture from the sketches. I'm much older than the 80's. I remember when the CBShow was on Saturday nights at 10:00 p.m. I sent you the sketches that verify what I've told you.
@TheFirePhoenixKing Not to my knowledge. She should've been, though. When you put Lucy and Carol together, the laughs are nonstop! The true queens of comedy!
hahaha, eunices hair. lol

Loved the episode where Eunice went on the Gong Show and got gang-gonged. She was singing Morris Albert's FEELINGS. --- LOL☺

@ndrussiangerman1:
While I see the point of your argument, that wasn't in the storyline of the sketch nor the TV show. Ellen, Eunice, & Vint all belong to Carl.
It would explain, however, why Ellen was so spoiled AND why she has a false ego of snootiness. Trying to compensate.

I have always liked this show but sometimes the scenes with mama and Eunice were just to painful to watch. Excellent actors no doubt.
