My Question is Whom & Why decided that we had to change the electoral district boundaries? Why cant we keep the same electoral districts? Was it the government or a independent body composed of MLA past or future.
I will still vote YES, Because this is not written in stone. I believe we can change the districts to represent us better. The new voting system wont be in place till 4 years from now we have time.
Because of two very skewed elections in the past (one in favour for the NDP, the other for the Liberals), Gordon Campbell decided to allow the Citizens Assembly created using 2 people from each electoral district. It was effectively an independent body. The boundary changes are needed to allow multi-member districts, but keep the same number of MLAs in the legislature. Same size districts as now would require a much larger (and more expensive) legislature.
Beyond that, the regions would include the old districts. So if one of the new regional districts had three of the old ones, the new one would elect 3 MLAs.
Thank goodness this stupidness didnt pass... we would have stupid sock puppets running our elections...Good Job B.C.
