What a pity that Tracee, along with Julianne McNamara and others, could not attend the 1980 Olympics due to boycott. They were so prepared and would have won medals in my opinion. I give Tracee, Julianne, and Kathy Johnson credit for sticking it out another four years to make their dream come true.
Thanks so much! I knew about the placing, just not the score. There used to be a website, gymnforum, that had all of the scores, but it seems to be gone... I enjoyed her routine, nice connections and innovative skills
she lost at least .2 on the first, and probably .1 on the second. She may have also come down out of the handstand too early, not sure, and remember, hardly any non Soviet routine scored over 9.8, so this score is appropriate for that competition.
it's not really bias, they were THAT much better than everyone else, Romania had fallen off the radar a bit after 1980 and they were the only ones that could really challenge the Soviets back then
Yes, maybe there WERE better, but the Eastern Bloc judges always made sure that the Western teams were underscored and kept down, especially when new exciting gymnasts showed up like Tracee, Julianne and Kathy. Tracy didn't have a good AA but earned a bronze on beam. It continued until the US has gotten so good they can't help but give them the better scores, unless you're China, then you just lie about the ages of your gymnasts and because of bad luck on our part we got the silver.
They absolutely had superior gymnasts but many judges from that era have leaked out that the Eastern Bloc judges made sure they got a certain amount of medals before letting anyone else "in" on the mix.
The East Germans controlled a lot of the judging at the time as the head judge for the Techincial Committeee was Ellen "cunt" Berger. She had a lot to do with Nadia losing the gold medal in Moscow, and with the Romanians falling off of the podium in this competition. She also tried to get Mary Lou Retton DQed in LA and penalized the US team in Seoul, which cost them a bronze medal. What an evil cunt. She's gone now btw
I would have given it a 9.7

I'm surprised she scored so low, must have been the short landings on her first and third passes, I guess.
