Ok I have done the same thing but I used much higher detailed textures and added way more polygons, It was good but I think you could do a tad better :) No offense at all I'm just saying
I would like this footage for a short film. You-tubing it will work for me. Since you've already given permission to others I will assume you are OK with it unless you message me otherwise. You will be credited. Cheers!
Hi, Can this be used in films with your permission? I would like to use it as part of an intro if that is possible, of course you will be credited for it? Thanks
But I seriously recommend you use compositing nodes instead -> lot better results + faster rendering. Google 'William Chamberlin Earth tutorial' and you'll find the best tutorial I've seen about making Earth so far.
Actually I did this before I learned using nodes, so no compositing in this video :)
I used Blender's internal grid to set the sizes and distances. The lens flare can be set up under the 'materials' tab. The Sun is a single-vertex object with a halo material.
Dude, absolutely love the animation, how long did this take to do? also how long did it take to render, I've just downloaded blender and have to say, I really need to get looking at some tutorials. The only slight thing I didn't like on the animation was the starfield, just a minor thing, it just looked low res compared to the fantastic models you had created. Added to my favorites and gonna check some more of your vids out.
I think I spent about a month doing this, I changed and remade it quite a lot. Rendering probably took about 10-15 hours in total.
I agree about the bad starfield. Check out "Journey to the Edge of the Solar System", I used a far better texture there and planets (especially atmospheres) look much more realistic.
And welcome to Blender :P there's a wikibook "Blender 3D: Noob to Pro" with a load of good tutorials, recommend you start there.
I love your work!. Ive been makin videos for a few years now but im wanting to start doin animation. Ive downloaded animation software but i have no bloody how it all works
very interesting thanks

Did you hide faces? At 28 seconds, or so, I see a face on Africa and at about 1:59 I see another on the moon.
Or am I a crazy person?

FUCKING EPIC. O.O How'd you get the atmosphere effect on Earth? I've been trying to do that and I always fail!
3DPlanets 1 year ago
@3DPlanets
z-transparency + fresnel from 'mirror transp' tab
But I seriously recommend you use compositing nodes instead -> lot better results + faster rendering. Google 'William Chamberlin Earth tutorial' and you'll find the best tutorial I've seen about making Earth so far.

@Ylts92 I know how to do a lens flare, I wanted to know how u got it to look good.
If u didn't use compositing nodes, how did you get the atmosphere to look like that?
TheFXGuy 1 year ago
@TheFXGuy
Sorry about the delayed response, I missed your question somehow...
The atmosphere is a fresnel effect with z-transparency.
I don't have the exact halo settings anymore but this produces something similar:
Activate 'flare', 'lines',
size = 2, hard = 40, add = 1
lines = 3, seed = 1
flare size = 2, boost = 1, flare seed = 1, flares = 10

That looks amazing... Doesn't seem to incredibly hard to do (once you get past the composite nodes), but came out amazing.
How did you measure the distance if it's correct? Also, what is the music? ALSO (last time), how did you do the lens flare?

It's 'Birth of a Nation' from Immediate Music. I downloaded it right here from Youtube.

this is nice.
strange thing is that made one today that looks almost exactly the same, i think we both used the same textures, mine is in scale aswell :)

Thanks.
Pretty much every Earth animation I've seen is made with Blue Marble textures.
