hey thanks for making the video, Can you record and chop samples directly from the 505, or is it like the rolands when they have to be loaded on by a computer? thanks any info will help.
nice stuff man - i see you also have the roland 404 in the vid - im currently trying to decide to get this 505 used... or buy the 404-sx - which would you do???
Hey, I have a Boss SP-505. I'm trying to convert my smartmedia card files into itunes (mac). When I load the files onto my mac with the smartmedia card reader, the extension reads .spo (little gray icon with green letters in top left reading EXEC). I've tried changing the extensions and a few different converters. Can anyone help?
You cannot simply open and play Sp-505 proprietary sample files on a pc or mac. all you can do is to connect the RCA outs of the 505 into the line-ine of your computer and record it with any audio recording software. the cable you will need is a simple L/R RCA on one side and 1/8″ (3.5 mm) audio jack (TRS) connector on the other.
I had a question for all you guys, how do you use midi with this sampler and a master keyboard. when i hit play on my keyboard my sequencer starts. i don't want that, i want my pads to start when i hit start on the keyboard.
If you guys can help me i'll trully appreciate it!
If i understand correctly you want to use your Sampler with ur board? If so then you should connect your midi in(from sampler) to Midi out in keyboard. Every time you play your start button on your keyboard everything work now. In order for it to play it has to be in a ptn
hey olby i have been on my sp 404 for a while i understand it for the most part . but i was wondering if the 505's interface is anything similar to the 404 as far as learning this equipment cause i was looking to buy one
hi, no the 505 is completely different beast. it has even completely different sound than 404. it is similar in sound to 303 which is grittier than 404. other than quite similar effects between 404/505 it is very different and more like a mini mpc 1000.
well yeah, basically a few things here and there... an usb connection, velocity sensitive pads, d-beam, master fx and p606 software are few i remember top of my head. but on the other side 505 has MANUAL CHOP function and PITCH (changing a sample's pitch +/- 1 octave) function - these are quite good features that 606 is missing thats why I chose 505 over 606 when I had it.
if ya talkin about MPC60 then NO - do not replace it with this. you might be frustrated because it is limited in many areas and slower than MPC60. If you still want to do this then better play with it your self then you can 100% be sure that it is the right gear for you.
you need a cable for ipod that has RCA L/R outs on one side. connect this little bugger to the 505 and sample what you want. using analog input on the 505. when you sample scroll the mp3 on ipod to the place you want to sample and hit sample on the 505 and play on ipod to start playing and sampling at the same time.
