@DCTVediting Hey man. I used to use iMovie, to create movies and trailers and everything. Well when my birthday passed, I knew I wanted to get FInal Cut Pro X to give it a shot. And dude, I was beyond shocked for how some of the movies came out. In fact if you subscribe to my channel, you could catch the movie IM working on and using the FCPX software. I even have a trailer that i made from it.

Why would you use two layers of the same clip instead of one? Couldnt you just do the changes on one clip? Just curious

You could do the colour correction on one clip alone, but you have more control when you have two layers of video overlaying than just one. Also, two clips makes the effect look more realistic.

it's a pain in the butt, and how do you add transitions to clips that are not on the main story line like in pro 7? in pro 7 you can add transitions to whatever clip wherever the clip is at, now it seems like you can only add transitions to the main story line , or can u get rid of the main story line? please help

@JRAMACARTEL They fixed that in the FCPX 10.0.1 update. Now you can add transitions in the secondary or primary storyline.

@Bestow12345 Why not? Its superior to the other final cuts. It actually has 99% of the features FC7 already had and then thrown in a load more. All thats changed is the layout. Don't join the crowd and the news with their biased opinions.

@ShaheerAye That's one of the great things with most creative software (and creative things in general). There's usually more than one way to do everything, and people work out the best way for them, either because its easier, or because they get more control that way, or maybe because they didn't know (or think of) it could be done some other way.

@jdog90000 Precisely. Movies are shot on 35 mm film and most indie filmmakers don't have the budget to produce film so you can make digital cameras mimic it with this "look".

@jdog90000 Film has a different look then video blacks are darker and theres grain instead of noise also film moves a 24 frame a second video usually 60 youtube film vs video and you'll see the difference

@jdog90000 film look is really only achievable on film/celluloid and a very shallow depth of field from a large aperture, everything else is just color grading or effects. but what they meen by film look is something flat in saturation with super high contrast. the video definition is debatable because most people who say film look really meen bleach bypass look. depends on who you talk to. just dont take someones word for it and try some looks for yourself. :)

Yeah. When you look at a home movie and a Hollywood, there is an obvious difference in the way the film looks i.e. sharper blacks, altered contrasts etc. Film Effect is the name for the various colour corrections required to have this effect and make your movie look like a Hollywood one.
