To this day I am still incredibly disappointed we never see a Krell. Then again, I don't think anything anyone could produce would live up to my expectations.
One Saturday night years ago, some friends and I decided to use selected bits of dialogue in this movie to decide when to drink vodka shots. Unfortunately, one of the words we chose was, "Krell"...
@schwarzfalk No matter how strong the Robbie was, the ID monster would have won, the id itself had an unimaginable power that was manifested by the Krell mind materialization machine (or brain amplifier, can't remember the exact name atm). But after all, Robbie couldn't fight ID because it was Morbuis' other self, who is a rational human being and Robbie wouldn't harm a human being, that's why he had shut off at 2:07
but the problem is...the way they word it - the professor orders the bot to kill that thing, and the bot *refuses*...by this alone isn't it implied that the bot COULD kill it?
Great movie, but it's a little surprising how easy the Krell made it to destroy their entire planet isn't it? Turn one disc, and throw one switch? How about at least having to enter some sort of security code or use a key?
The interesting thing to remember is that the ID monsters runs amok on this planet
so we still have not tamed that side of our nature which is what the story is about.
A conflicted highly intelligent man given access to his own personal genie without understanding the consequences of the power he unconsciously directs.
I bet the remake will have some crap about how people are actually good and they'll come to an understanding with the monster or something. Something not as deep and dumbed down from this, certainly.
Or maybe it'll be a gore-filled action flick. Either way it'll be worse.
you are so right, the beauty of this film is its intelligence - its such a deep and profound movie - not a mindless shoot 'em-up western like most sci-fi flicks. This movie actually has something to say about humanity and our weaknesses despite all our technology.
I don't think the Krell's Id destroyed them. Morbius says the Krell had conquered even their "baser selves.". They probably uploaded into their Machine, and they didn't anticipate that some other species would land on their planet whose Id could access the Machine with an accidental brain boost.
This has been said before, so pardon my redundancy. If you watch close you can almost substitute the Enterprise for the C-57D and Kirk for Adams and you've got a typical Star Trek episode.
This is a great movie because there is No substitute for a good story and no ammount of special effects can make up for a poor story line. This story even has theological implications.
ever since g00gle bought youtube its been more LAG than actual TOOB, at least for me (and everyone else i ever talked to) ... This move to yimg site was a HUGE mistake
Don't worry, I do have other problems with this site as well (like, updating my profile or just changing the goddamn background picture is a pain in the a** for me. :p
Btw, the upload of this video took over 4 and a half hours! (with a very crappy upload rate)
remake will be for our 'diverse' audience... so it'll be dumb and blended... like our country is...

a pity we didn't get to see Robbie vs ID fight
could the bot have killed the monster if it wanted to?

@GunmanProductionsTV yeah also reckon the monster SHOULD be more powerful

Did the ID monster get through the door and harm Morbius, causing him to perish moments later?

@slicknickxp Yes, it did get through.

Judging by todays audience it'll be utterly dumbed down to a mindless action flick.
Quite depressing really when realise catering for todays audience means creating a film meant for someone more stupid and vain.

Yup, the micro-mini would not come of age until the early 70s, so even the female attire was ahead of it's time.

one of my favourites: i'm dreaming for a remake of spielberg or r. scott (i know that J. Cameron planned ...)
mongemark 2 years ago
In my humble opinion, they should NOT remake this flick which IS already a masterpiece!
GunmanProductionsTV 2 years ago
Yeah, I agree. No way they could remake this work of art.
I know they are though. I hope that it's not a terrible remake like the ones I've been seeing.
