  • javier bardem: what a gift of actor in Spain

  • great movie..portman should won oscar for this movie...i love history movies..and this one is one of the best...

  • Napoleon was great.

I don't know why Spaniards didn't understand that Napoleon was a liberator, not a conqueror. Napoleon invaded Spain to kick the Bourbons tyrans and save the people of Spain.

    Vive l'empereur.

  • fantastic movie

  • It is true the Goya witnessed all of the events of the Spanish Inquisition. I was surprised that the movie did not portray him as crazy as his paintings. The ironic thing is ... his paintings tell the truth and are extremely rational, no matter how irrational they may seem to the eye.

  • im in this! i play javier bardem's daughter :)

  • @LolaRomyxoxothen you were inf a god danm good movie.

  • He's Milos Forman, not Mlios

  • Wonderful movie! Makes you angry at the Inquisitors and religiously blind!

  • watch this with the captions on. lol

  • @jubblyplank haha total fail!

  • is this by true story or imaginary?

  • @int1901 both

  • Fascinating movie..and one of a kind!..Its a crime it went unnoticed on its release..

  • It's good to see that the public seems to be more accepting of this movie than the critics. A 28% on Rotton Tomatoes?! Maybe it was flawed in small parts here and there but not deserving of that. True the non-Spanish accents are kinda funny, but Natalie Portman and Stellan Skarsgard (my favorite actor) are good enough to ignore it. Javier Bardem is great too and the music and costumes are awesome! It deserved better than it got.

  • @balrog13571 I thought it was a pretty good movie as well. its not without flaws but id still recommend it. Shows the brutality and stupididy of the spanish inquisition. This is another Film the Catholic church would not like people to see. Another example of how evil the Catholic church really is

  • @Destoryer86 Whoa I never said THAT. I'm Christian and I don't think the whole church shouldn't be held responsible for bad things (at least not in this century). It was a different time. The Church had a bigger say in matters and there were corrupt people in it. There's good and bad people everywhere. The Church has flaws like anything but isn't evil. Of course I'm still glad I didn't live in that time though.

  • @balrog13571 It wasnt just the spaish inquisition. The catholic church has being doing stuff like this unitl the past hundred years of so. The cathoic church imprisoned or burned at the stake many innocent people for hundreds of years all over the world. They are supposed to be about god and forgiveness and helping people. They never help people. Whenever someone needed help they burned them at the stake and called them a heritic. I have nothing against other churches just the catholic church

  • @Destoryer86

Well yeah back then, but again it was a different time. You don't see them burning anyone at the stake anymore. Besides it's not like other religions haven't got their flaws also.

  • @Destoryer86 If there is a Satan, a catholic church is surely lead by it.--

  • @int1901 It is ridiculous to claim that the Catholic Church is led by Satan. In the time period represented in the movie sure, it was corrupt and there were evil practices but there is NOTHING to suggest that the Catholic Church still takes part in this or condones the horrible acts committed by those in the past. There are terrible, wicked people everywhere. It is not fair to condemn the Catholic Church for something that happened hundreds of years ago.

  • @pootythe5th there is only one true church. one is of God and all others are made by human (or satan if they are evil). Catholic church never had gudence by God, and it still doesn't today. They never had

  • @pootythe5th - Except that the "horrible acts" of the medieval Church sprung from an ideological absolutism that STILL exists. It is not the acts themselves which are so terrifying, but the dogma which enables them. Dogma which is alive and well, manifesting most recently in this new wave of theocratic fringe conservative politicians.

Anyway, I have not seen this film, but Goya is a favorite of mine. Can anyone offer an opinion on how Forman's interpretation holds with historical accuracy?

  • @pootythe5th Sadly many people will never understand that, I agree with you, the Catholic church is a faith that is based in good principles, there are millions of people who are Catholic, now, that the priest or other authorities from the church are so corrupted, it doesn't mean that the whole institution is dirty or corrupt..come on people it doesn't really take too much brain work to understand that, is just common sense. People cannot go generalizing everything or condemning everything.!!

  • GOYA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic movie

  • why does natalie portman have to be so goddamn beautiful!

  • I neither liked, nor dis-liked this film. Nor did I think it was average. It was special, yet I don;t know why. It made no sense. It lacked, what most would regard a good film, in the sense, that nothing really happened. I do agree that the acting was excellent, and the screenplay was exceptional.

I have an opinion on every film, be it good or bad. Yet with this... I don;t know. Will deffinatly watch it again though.

  • man a lot of fade out fade in holy crap

  • excellent movie

  • spends much of his time being humbled. I've watcher this film free @ Movie Watcher [dot] US

  • Friend told me that you can watch z the m0vie online @ MOOV ZON . COM search the above link on google

  • isn't Beninco del Toro in this??????

  • no!!

    javier bardem!

  • this movie was really sad to me

im a happily evr aftr type of person so i was sad but i am happy that she ended up with a kid at least.....though crazy......

  • The Carlos Saura's film is much better than this film...

  • This film is beautiful..the actors are great! and their interpretations was very good!!! this story is sad enough... =( poor Ines... =(

  • stellan skarsgard is soooo hot!!!!!!!!!...and fantastic actor

  • The torture scene with Natilie Portman was a little disapointing, it wasn't long enough. I really expected to see more do to the hype of her role in this film. I rate it 2/5 stars.

  • whats the song at 0:22 i want to know it sounds good

  • GOD! They're so good actors! The character of Ines...made me burst into tears when was out of prison. Horrific vision but true of the ancient time! I love this movie (I won't watch it twice though)

  • i didn't know everyone spoke english in spain back then.

  • Hearing Javier Bardem speaking english in a movie about 18th century Spain did make me tilt my head and giggle just a bit but Stellan Skarsgard and Natalie Portman are such fantastic actors I can ignore it.

  • this is a great movie i love it and i dont get the end at all its kind of confusing

  • Most movie heroins I dont care for, But I felts strongly like protecting ines'. I just felt so sorry for her because she had been so railroaded. Most movie "victims" are unrealistic, If this was a crappy typical american movie Ines would have gotten out and got revenge on javier, instead Ines wanted her child back and certainly did not hate javier . She was a little off for sure, but she bore an innocent sweetness that is irristable.

  • nice movie, but i dont want to watch it again...it just like a nightmare.....natalie has made me cry...... this movie represents the meaning of a great movie

  • ... imprisoned and tortured all because she didn't like the taste of pork. Thank goodness our laws are more lenient today... prison without torture (unless you drop the soap) with fully equipped gym, internet access and the ability to get an educational degree...

  • Watching this film I opened something new in my soul, I suppose... Most probably even watching Javier Bardem in this film... Anyway...

  • Very, very disturbing film, a great film nonetheless.

  • Epic movie!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this movie was good and natalie was excellent

  • this movie is goood

  • This movie is really good. I love this movie.

  • best wonderful movie ever

  • absolutely a great movie! Great actors!

  • Dios! Bruce Willis esta torturando a la Natalie!!

  • I don't like how this trailer makes it seem like Goya was having an affair with Inez/Alicia (Natalie Portman). In the movie, they were friends and later on, he protects her. But no love or affair.

PS--Javier Bardem's character is EVIL! I actually cheered when he....oh, watch the movie and see for yourself. He gets what's coming to him.

  • Hey, hey, hey. Javier was evil, but he had some good moments....okay, not many, but he didn't seem like a completely terrible person throughout the entire movie.

The ending is my favorite part though! lol:)

  • I liked this movie. It makes you think. ...this film tells a story, a little disturbing, but those were hard and cruel times there in Europe and Spain......I wonder how guilty is the church and monarchical institutions for our nowadays problems and lifestyle.....anyway it's a good movie. I also want to say viva Napoleon!!

  • just saw this movie and man, it makes u really not like human nature at all. although the good virtues try to prevail it just seems like the cheaters will always win

  • A Fine Movie Indeed...Mind Blowing

  • such a great movie!!! and very good actors!!...

  • I also find very interesting that all that wealth of the family couldnt help them at both periods, a girl being prisoned byInquisition, and the same family being destroyed at revolution...

  • I think Bardem did a fantastic job on this... I was highly moved by this movie, and I think the humor doesnt hide the reality that 'revolution comes with blood'... I loved the Goya's portreyal as well.... good acting..

  • I am not "full of vinegar" as someone said(of another person), but this movie did not touch me. The actors are excellent, there are a lot of strong moments, but the story is not there. I don't see where the script or the director are leading me.

  • theyre showing the consequences of blind devotion to baseless belief systems

  • I love the dark comedy and ironic elements of the ending. I thought that Lorenzo's execution and, the scene with the kids singing and Alicia holding Lorenzo's hand were two the best in the film.

  • @VforVendetta200 its ines not alicia

  • One of the most important films. It spans all seas(e)ons and reflects man's inhumanity to man. Every emotion ever felt is revealed and we all look in the collective mirror together. Our creation...not God's.

  • i have to see this one ! natalie is in it :D she and keira knightley rock !

  • this movie is my favorite!

  • Spanish friars of the previous years!!!those people and their anomalies...

  • Wow..

  • natalie portman shouldve been nominated for best supporting actress

  • Fantastic Movie!!

  • Stunning....

  • Absolutely amazing movie.

  • i absolutely love that movie... the acting! the plot! the music! awesome!

  • Javier Bardem is such a great Actor, I have watched almost all his movies and each time I am amazed by his abilities of bringing a certain character to life.

  • does anybody know what's the name of the song in 0:22?

  • I love this movie!

  • This movie was nothing but excellent. The actors. The music. The plot. The costumes. The way it was all brought together. The way they used mostly Spanish actors, it gave the movie such a flavour. Sorry for those that didn't like it.

  • it it absolutley awesome!

  • i absolutely agree with you - everything about it is amazing - my favourite film of the last 5 years easily

  • Totally agree with you. I can't believe this wasn't very popular.

  • i think natalie did a great job.

  • i mean, i love bardem a helluva lot, but he sounded like an old rabbi in this one. and the yarmulke-like cap doesn't help. bardem is fantastic in general but this movie neither deserves praise for bardem's performance or for the story. and what was up with the british supporting the catholic church? protestantism broke off from catholicism. see live flesh or sea inside. also, the title is referenced in one strange scene and really is irrelevant. in the movie goya was single but he had a wife.

  • Javier Bardem was great in this one, love him! So masculine and sexy....

  • does anybody know what's the name of the song that is playing from 00:23?

  • I'am also tryig to find out the name of the song sang by the children at the end of the movie.

  • me too! if you find it can you send it to me?

  • One of the best films ever made. #3 in my top 10.

  • Very, very good film. The 2nd best film by Milos Forman.

  • What was the other bad performance?

  • Boy, you're full of vinegar, aren't ya? Lol

  • Woah that looks cool :) Are there any movies it is similar to that i may have seen so that i know whether i will enjoy it

  • Did this ever come out...

  • yes and it is a great story - saw it yesterday ;)

  • cool

  • a must see

  • Bardem aquí es mazo malo. ¿Por qué Milos Forman no escogió a Dustin Hoffman para interpretar su papel?

  • i need to see this!!

  • woooooooooooooow i can not wait
