Looked like Bodine had a throttle stuck open - he didn't seem to slow at all between hitting the outside wall & the inside wall. If anything, he seemed to accelerate...
Definitely a prime example of 'A Bad day at The Office'...

Makes you wonder why they didn't have a tire barrier lining that wall back then. They could have done that easily.

A tire barrier wouldn't of helped much.

A tire barrier could have softened that impact substantially. A possible risk though would be tires being flung into the air and into a spectotor area (even if the tires were bound together to meet, say, FIA standards). On a street circuit there is such a low risk of that happening because these barriers are in braking zones.
