  • I touched this car in real life =D Burgandy with the NUR sticker on the back bumper some things the do not note on these vids are they have alot of saftey stuff inside the car during these lap videos. Also i noticed the clear part on the hood was painted black.

  • I wonder what a C6RS will do!! According to a review I watched it's lighter than the ZR-1 and also track-built! Anyways, great video! Very nice driving! And to all those guys saying he can go faster: I agree, he could have pushed the car a bit more and if there was no wind, but Nurburgring is a really tricky course and (no offense) NONE of us could have reached a 7:45, let alone beat this time! It takes THOUSANDS of laps to get to know the 'Ring!!!!

  • The Enzo hit almost 192mph vs the Corvettes ZR1's 179mph and thats NA vs SC. This shows supercharger has strain on a cars topspeed because of accessory drag. The enzo was more twitchy I would say the ZR1 is better to drive and less prone to understeer. And if you could bump up the PSI on the SC I think it would match the enzo. I hope the time for both cars were with street tires.

  • @BimmerM5e39 Look man, you get it wrong! Top speed has almost nothing to do with horsepower or forced induction. It's all about revs and gearbox ratio! Every car has a certain graph that shows it's speed every 1000rpm. E.g. if a car does 40kph@1000rpm and has a rev limit of 8000 it's top speed is approximately 320kph. So, if you search you'll find out that the Enzo has a higher rev limiter. About the accessory drag you talk about, it affects horsepower, not speed! Cheers!

  • Good question iiredeye, according to wikipedia, the Zonda F clubsport actually has 641 hp so that may narrow the gap, also the heavier weight and lower torque curve may actually stabilize the corvette on the bumps and uneven pavement that make the ring so difficult, the driver and track conditions would give any time a couple second margin of error

  • I have a few issues with this lap 1st this test was conducted by GM, so how tempting would it be to wind up the power a bit for the test so as to try and deceive that this car is a world beater, was the car scrutinised and dyno'ed after test was it weighed? 2nd is the ZR1 really almost 23 sec faster than the Z06? 3rd how can a car producing 638hp and weighing 1520kgs be only 1.7sec slower than the Pagani Zonda F Clubsport 750 hp less than 1180kgs with no doubt a much more sophisticated chassis??

  • i know that the corvette makes 400 ft/lb of torque at idle its power comes in a lot sooner than a zonda f plus it has enzo brakes. i wouldnt be surprised to find out that GM ran the lap with slicks or some form of racing tire, but it is still really damn fast

  • Yes good call it is still really fast, good news is Topgear have got it soon so the stig will be let loose in it then finally will will have an honest and true comparison with it's rivals, currently we have on the board in 12th place Porsche GT2 1:19.5, 14th place Nissan GTR 1:19.7,15th place Ferrari 430 scuderia 1:19.7 and in 25th place the Z06 with a 1:22.4 I would love to hear everyone predictions of what time they think the ZR1 can make.Clarkson has just bought a new ZR1 so they must be gd

  • I've watched this video a couple of times now. I'm not an expert on "The Ring" but it seems that Jim Mero could've gotten quite a bit more out of the ZR1 on this track. He missed a number of apexes and wasn't always on the gas properly. Speaking of that, can anyone tell me why he never got above 178, even on that very long last straightaway? He only had the revs up to around 5300. Considering the ZR1 can do 205 on the flat I would have expected to see at least 190-195 here.

  • he did have a heavy headwind on the main straight... they should have Sabine Schmitz do laps for every car... that way we'd know the true lap times for each car... skill levels vary too much from driver to driver. That's why Top Gear got the Stig!

  • As somebody who knows Corvettes well,I'd like to see a lap at the hands of Jan Magnussen now.If you really get into it there are whole seconds just frittered away through engaging corners too quickly and missing apexs like they're going out of fashion. The car definitely has more in it than that.

  • I mean, I'm personally a GT-R fan, but I gotta give credit to ZR1, since you don't get a good lap time in nurburgring with just a power increase. That having been said, I think Nissan is coming out with GT-R V-Spec that might beat the time set by ZR1, and the price range is the same with ZR1, so ZR1 should be compared with GT-R V-spec. BTW silentshadow7r7, computers and 4wheel steering in GT-R actually interfere with the driver if you are driving at a professional level.

  • well I like the C5 looks way more than the C6. I don't think it feels like the C4, because the C4 was not transaxle as the C5/C6. And even if the finishing is rubbish it's not supposed to be a luxury car.

    The GT-R V-Spec will outrun the ZR1 I'm sure it will. But so what? if they put the electronics on the Vette it will outrun the GT-R too, because it's lighter.

    The point is that electronics kill the fun. The GT-R is not a Driver's car.

    It's all about the feeling. Not just the speed.

  • quick question, have you even driven a C6 and a C4? if you have, then you'd know that the two are far from feeling similar. and looks wise, c'mon, look at ferraris and lambos, they all share similar designs from older models. new design stylings are improvements from older ones. basically, if it ain't broke don't fix it...just make it better.
