  • THE WILD MAN RULES ALL ... CHET ATKINS SAYS SO

  • WILD MAN!!! RULES ALL!!!

  • Jerry was great!!! I want that telecaster his guitar player was pickin on.

  • a pure country legend

  • JR is one of the greats!

  • mighty fine mighty fine mighty fine mighty fine mighty fine

    UGottaListen2B4UDie.

  • One of the best guitarists in the world!

  • I tried my hardest not to like either Jerry Reed or Chet Atkins but the music is too darn good. And no version of Guitar Man can top this version.

  • Does anyone would have an artist to suggest in the funk/country vibe a la Amos Moses and this version of Guitar Man?

  • This is far better than Elvis' version. Nothing like hearing the original!

  • No, i think whoever clicked dislike did it while they were watching this upside down....on their way to sticking their head up their ass.

  • @tomcaat1 I laughed my head off over your comment. Great imagination! lol

  • @tomcaat1 Amen!

  • back when real music was made

  • Ol'Jerry had a glass eye but no on knew it for years. . .he used to joke about it in private and how he always had bottle of Windex handy if he wanted to read a book.

  • One of my all-time favorites, Jerry's music always makes me happy. Jerry seems like he's having the time of his life in this video, and that makes me smile.

  • Brilliant - Jerry Reed was so under rated great singer, actor, guitarist and songwriter. Sadly missed

  • Awesome performance. Too bad kids today don't even know what a pedal steel guitar is......

  • Jerry Reed was one cool dude. One of the most under rated pickers out there

  • Sheer Brilliance

  • The thing I loved about Jerry Reed was there at the end of the song. That grin...you just knew this guy was having the time of his life jamming out with his band or other musicians. He knew what his talent was and he ran with it to the hilt! Miss you Guitar Man!

  • Jerry reed was one of only certified doctors of guitar. he had a doctorates degree in guitar. Another was chet atkins. jerry reed wrote guitar man and us male. He was definitely the entertainer. I liked everything he ever did.

  • Yeeeeeehaaaaaw!!!!!!

  • wow...I really like that version. Got to grab my Telecaster and study on that for awhile!

  • RIP Jerry! Awesome.

  • Jerry Reed was such a bad ass guitarist and entertainer! God doesn't make 'em like that anymore. RIP Jerry!

  • Jerry reed is sooo hott!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Damn...how good is that! A little funky, bitchin' country pickin'...he has so much charisma, and he shares the spotlight with these other players when he is one of the great guitar players ever...DAMN!

  • I tune my guitar all kinds a WEIRD ways!!!....their straight pickers....I play with my fingers?!!!....Jerry WAS something else!!!

  • That was awesome!

  • SON... this version kicks ass!!!

  • How can people say they hate country? Granted the majority of what has been released or at least popular in the last 25 years or more has been as bad as most the 'R&B', 'soul' and pop of the same time frame. You don't have to go back too far to find Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, shoot Even BB King was more R&B all through the 70's and 80's. If you like good music, support it, it is slowly dying...

  • Anybody know who the rest of the band is?

Most likely that's Dan Dugmore playing steel, but I would love to know who the guitar player and bass player are.

  • @mrktwn Apparently the lead guitar (paisley telecaster) is L.D.Money, according to his son who just posted a comment on here. I'd like to know who the bass player is too. There's a chance it could be Duncan Mullins who joined jerry reed's "Thompson Station Congregation" backup band in January 1982. it could be him, he looks very similar.

  • Jerry played the guitar to this on Elvis's version. It was reeds song and he told Elvis he was the only one who could play it.

  • @roofermarc1

Correct. Someone argued me , the other day, that elvis presley wrote that song. not true, it was jerry reed. Also u s male, was jerry's song. You will find jerry reed and elvis w ere thic as ticks on a dog. Also, early morning rain, by elvis presley, was written by gordon lightfoot, not peter paul and mary. The song was did by two others before peter paul and mary.

  • @radiowwww While Elvis loved Reed's music, they were not 'thic as ticks on a dog". Jerry Reed was in the studio in Sept. 1967 and played guitar when Elvis recorded "Guitar Man" and he was back in the studio with Elvis in Jan. 1968 when Elvis recorded another Reed composition named "U.S. Male".

  • R.I.P. Jerry we love and miss you, son.

  • @RoboticsNShenanigans whoops I was a day early, feeling is still there though!

  • @RoboticsNShenanigans Amen to that ! Was it just three years to the day?

  • Its actually Jerry Reed that made "Guitar Man" and not Elvis.

  • i wish he wasnt dead he was a great man and a guitarplayer im13 and love his music rap is crap this stuff is where its at RIP jerry RIP

  • Go ahead ohn..show em son.

  • 1 person must have been drunk and accidentally clicked the dislike button while falling out of their chair.

  • Best performance of Guitar Man ever! Jerry Reed was a mighty fine musician, I'm in complete awe of his amazing guitar skills. But the best thing is how his music always puts a smile on my face

  • What a wonderful song and rendition. With all due respect to Elvis, he didn't even come close to being as good as Reed when he covered this song. RIP Jerry. We all love and miss you!

  • Who is the guitarist that play electric guitar?

  • Only 1 dislike. That was probably a missclick.

  • Jerry always had fantastic music, but his beginnings and endings are head and shoulders above any other performer I've ever seen. The paisley Tele was James Burton's signature guitar for many years. Jerry was one of a kind, and Chet Atkins considered him the best guitar player he had ever seen.

  • I will learn to play Pedal Steel one day. For the life of me I swear I will. Especially over funk!

  • O K That is FUNK!!

  • i like this song..........yesssss

  • Respond to this video... Thats cool as hell. Heard him pick a long time ago.

  • Damn, this is one groovy country tune. I can't even think of a word that describes how great it is... oh my god!

  • Yes! Yes! Yes!

  • The one person who disliked this video can't pick it!

  • god bless you Jerry. One of my all time favorite country singers. REAL COUNTRY !

  • Although your uncle, LD Money, is very, very good, I've always considered Jerry Reed to be one of the best country guitarists ever, along with one of the best song writers, as well.

  • When i was a kid , we used to joke about how Reed would be on a show with a guitar strapped on, and he would not play much at all. Yet he just kills on guitar !! how cool is it that he hired 2 guitarists and a steel player.?

  • what idiot disliked this? i'm only 17 and i love it xD

  • Funktry! Love Jerry Reed and his funky jams.

  • I love funky country songs

  • I could listen to this all day.

  • the man hisself

  • What a great funky country groove!!!

  • fantastic....love the "funk" version

  • beautiful. absolutely beautiful. im really in tears right now.

  • Wow, what a great rendition. A good band.

  • elvis is the best

  • I got to meet Jerry Reed, in Biloxi, MS. some years back, just before he passed away. He came to the V.A. Hospital where I work to visit the vets. Cool, Cool dude.

  • sweet

  • I like this version! I like Jerry, And i miss him. Simply the best!

  • a part of me died when he did

  • anyway, i'm very ignorant on this field and i wondered if anybody could tell me how to replicate the sound of the guitar... thank you!

  • @Sk3z There's 4 different guitars on stage. Which one are you interested in?

  • @MarkSmithMusic the brown telecaster.

  • i'm almost crying evrytime i hear this! An inspiration so far! Music is just too amazing, ervything you learn you find something new you are willing to throw yourself into!

  • best three minutes ever !

  • YES~

    God I miss Jerry..

  • This is awesome!

  • Steve Howe wasn't kidding when he said Jerry Reed was the best technical guitarist in his book.

  • Wow!! I cant stop my foot!! It`s ROCKING and dingeling like H...

    GREAT!!!

  • Who says a country band can't funk like mad?

    That groove is killer.

  • That man was the ringa ding ding, wow he had it all, fair play to that awsome man.

  • When Elvis Presley asks ya to sit in and pick, you do it! Jerry Reed was one of the best ever!! Miss you "snowman"!!!!

  • this is badass, thanks for posting this, I love Jerry Reed!

  • @bribeeann

    You dad is killer!

  • Not sure if the question was answered earlier but does anyone know of a recorded version of this track is available for purchase?

  • my dad "L.D. Money" is the lead electric guitar player in this! This is priceless! Im now 27! ;)

  • anybody have any idea who cut the Guitar Jerry is playing ??? instead of a Cut Away, it's just sawed right off.

  • @bribeeann

A buddy of mine was a session player in Nashville in this era and knew and played with your dad, he is a smokin' player.. Great chops!!! PFunk has nothin on these cats!!!

  • @bribeeann Your dad must be one of the finest to be on stage with one of country music's biggest legends :-) My best regards to him from a fellow musician!

  • did your dad play the solo for east bound and down? sounds very similar

  • @bribeeann That's a sweet looking Tele he's playing! How old was he back then? He looks like a kid!

  • @bribeeann I bought me a Telecaster this Christmas - your dad is a guitar master...dang when I grows up I wanna play just like your daddy...I'm 42

  • @bribeeann

a question, what happened to that paisley tele?

  • @bribeeann woow. cool man! Is that guitar in your posession now? :O)

  • @bribeeann - He plays and ugly Tele, but man, nice chops!!!!! My grandpa was a great guitarist, bluegraas and blues, learned from him. Do you play too?

  • @mystinger72 That paisley Telecaster from the late 60's is worth mucho dinero today. (on the vintage market for $25,000!) Brad Paisley has one just like it and he plays his in videos and concerts regularly. (Jerry Springer is playing Brad's in the video of THE FISHING SONG)

  • @bribeeann 28 now! :D

  • @bribeeann Right on man.. Your ol man played with a legend, and one of my heroes.. Which makes him a legend and hero in his own right..

  • @bribeeann P.S. I'm 34.. :D

  • @bribeeann you should be very proud

  • @bribeeann , Does he still have that Paisley Tele?..

  • If all country sounded this cool now, I would be a huge fan.

  • a shame elvis and jerry never performed together.

  • he did play guitar on some of elvis stuff..

  • he's great

  • When Elvis done the studio version of this song, it was Jerry Reed who was playing lead guitar in the studio, there were a few other songs Jerry played in studio with Elvis singing, many people don't know that. Too Much Monkey Business and U.S. Male were 2 other songs.

  • you are so right, I never knew that. I love both Jerry and Elvis--- and others, the list just goes on and on...

  • Which is why those are my 3 Evlis faves, in that order. Mmmm mmm mmm.

  • I love this! Is there a high quality audio recording of this recording or a similar recording available? This would get every dancefloor moving.

  • Legendary stuff!

  • amazing

  • Play that funky music...White Boys.

  • funky he is. Waaaay before his time.

  • You will always be missed, Jerry. I will always love you and your music. Non one else would ever hold a candle to you.

  • Jerry wrote it he can do whatever he wants to do with his song. If he wanted to do a polka version. He would of had the right to do it.

  • This isn't disco! This is funky :)

  • Did he ever play in this in studio?

    its awzome

  • Yup, he has the original version out in one of his early records, and he played on Elvis's original version when Scotty Moore couldn't figure out how to make the song sound right, so he told Elvis he better get Jerry to do it.

  • sounds about right to me...

  • That's Right Had to hunt him down and fly him out to LA to record the song because Nobody can Chicken Pick Like the GUITAR MAN. The Good Lord Has The Finest Band Ever Put Together, Think about the resent loses, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, And Les Paul What a Guitar Trio Just imagine the sound.

  • fantastic

  • THE BEST VERSION PERIOD!

  • no it is not the original is by FAR. but anything Jerry is kick ass.

  • this is so awesome! thank you so much for putting this back on here! My dad is the lead electric guitar player in this with Jerry! This is such precious memories!

  • quality!! Bandit you got a smokie on your tail:)

  • another legend lost GOD BLESS Jerry u jammin with E again

  • Oh my God, I'm so glad to see this here again! I can't thank You enough for bringing back this video! Thanks a lot!

  • Unbelievable. I too have been waiting like elvis16aaron for the funky version of JReed's guitar man. The thing is, I'm almost positive this is ANOTHER NEW funky version of guitar man. The original one on youtube had Jerry wearing a huge high collar. It was a little different than this one.

    1. GREAT to see a new funky version.

    2. Would love to see that other one if anyone has hit.

Thanks a million muzikman74 for all the great Jerry Reed! To think these could be locked away forever...

  • It's great to see these classics - thank you -

  • This version was before on "youtube", but has diappeared. And now, after months of searching, I've found it. It was added recently (a day ago!) - I have typped the title and the artist without hope the song will be found and what a surprise!

  • i like the feel of this song
